I tried to build it myself following your very well done video. I found few things to improve: 1) for cuts where the angle is greater than 30 degrees (including 45 degrees), you can't cut long pieces because the block where the circular saw is fitted via the hinge is on the way, preventing the long piece (let's say 1m long) to have a 45 degrees cut at 50 cm (in the middle). 2) the hinge should be mounted up side down allowing the saw to bite the base more deeply (as long as the base legs are thick enough). This way you extend the angle up to 115-120 degrees(instead of 90 degrees).

one suggestion. instead of using bolt, you can use a simple rod for keeping the wood guide in different angle settings, which makes it a quick setup

It's better to paint space around the hole with red color - it highlights dangerous zone and may keep your fingers. Good job!

I want to point out that all the clever jigs I've built from sites like yours have a carefully spaced pair of dowels underneath and close to the front of the base plate that match holes on my workbench. I anchor the jig to the table with the dowels to keep it steady, then afterwards hang it back on the (you guesses it) sturdy pegboard with dowels.

I think this type of diy cut saw is for straight cut only. You can't cut a long length of wood for 45° that wood will hit the upper base where the circular saw was attached.

That could probably be done with neodymium magnets attached to the hinge. Or cut slots into the saw base where the bolt holes are.

I've been looking for a quick way to make a 'chop saw' from my circular saw and woke up this morning thinking that I should b able to hinge the saw somehow. Searched KZbin and found this. Exactly what I was looking for. My only concern is having to move the 4 bolts if I need to use it as a normal circular saw. I need to research if I can set up a quick release of some kind. I'm thinking if maybe using the pin hinges, the hinge with the removal pin in the centre. I also think that setting up an indent in a work tp so that this jig sits into it so that longer pieces would be supported and I could put some stop blocks. Great stuff. LOL don't like the colors !! I use bright bubblegum pink for all my jigs. They stand out really easily in the workshop!!

I want to make this but my skil saw base is smaller than yours and the hinge won't fit on mine. Could I add a piece of wood to the bottom front and attach the hinge from there. Excuse the ignorance..I'm just learning all this new stuff. Anyone who can answer this, I would appreciate it. I've got the base all set up ready to attach the saw...Thanks!

actually, wearing gloves while working with tools like circular saw, drill press etc. is dangerous. The tool can catch the glove and broke your fingers, or sometimes even cut them of. Its beter to have some splinters or small cut, than to lose your finger
