I got circumcised when I was 12, they didn't do it when I was born because I was pre-mature and had thin blood and was scared I could bleed to death or cause an infection. I've also had kidney stones as an adult. I to this day would much rather have kidney stones again rather than being re-circumcised.

Some of the "pros" listed have much less invasive alternatives. As a parent it is your responsibility to teach your child good hygiene. If said child is an infant and incapable of self-care, the onus falls on you, the parent, to ensure they are properly bathed. As for STIs, condoms are significantly more effective at combating them. With the exception of medical emergencies and consenting adults, absolutely none of these instances are grounds for genital mutilation.

The majority of the so called “pros” here could be eliminated with simply cleaning. Women have to clean theirs strange things grow in the folds. Dismembering someone else’s body without their consent cannot be justified based off these so called pros. actually you don't really have to clean much more either. the secretions are supposed to be a self clean feature even if it doesn't smell clean. it gets cleaned whenever one showers, every day or even couple of other days, that's it. more than enough.

It absolutely reduces sensitivity. A callous forms on the gland from all rubbing of clothes. I was circumcised as an adult so I remember how much more sensitive I was. If there's is no medical reason, let it be. It's there for a reason, & the number one is probably protection from sunburn!! Once upon a time we dudnt wear clothes incidentally, it is that very same callous that reduces the risk of venereal disease transmissiblity

It's no harder to clean than anywhere else. The baby does feel it. As someone that knows nurses. They told the high screams that come out when it happens. And it is way more sensitive. Its suppose to almost hurt just brushing it across something when soft. But years of having it exposed, it rubs all over the leg and clothes. Numbing the nerves to make it more resilient. Reducing the feeling when u go to use it. The US started doing it not cause of any health reasons. It was the church saying it will keep your sinning children from doing the devil handshake with themselves. Look it up.

Where I live, it's tradition for boys to be circumcized when they're 8 or 12. My parents gave me choice whether I'd want to or not, and I chose that I would. Consent is what's most important with making this decision

My parents choise not to circumcise me. They told me that my body is my own to do with. And if that was soemthing I wanted later in life. Then that was my decision. But iv never had any reason to get circumcised. And I will only get circumcised if there is a legitimate health reason in my life. There are no real "drawbacks" of what millions of years of evolution has given us and the notion that we can improve on it by crudely amputating parts has caused and still does, much suffering. The "drawback" you speak of is an extension of the old purity notion when ostracised uncut people were to be treated as being a contamination risk in the same way as for example the Pakistani Christian women Asia Bibi. It is a bullying tactic employed to enforce a social norm and give a false sense of superiority over outsiders of the cutting community. As such it is an absolute disgrace that it is perpetuated in the 21st century. There is no evidence that an unclean intromittent bodypart is cleaner if parts are amputated, why on earth would that be the case?

They might struggle to understand what its like to have it and feel like they are missing out. Personally I have not been circumcised as a baby and although my mother gave me the choice to recently I've came here for research. Although there are a lot of pros to circumcision it scares me to see a lot of people suffering and thinking it is a horrible practice. Though I chose not to be circumcised I believe it should be a choice later in life like 15-20 years old. actually i’m pretty sure i recall seeing this study, i think about 1 in 10,000 uncut men in the U.S choose to get cut. i can’t find it anymore, but i recall that number pretty vividly.

Circumcision should be made illegal in the US. A child should be allowed to decide themselves. In Europe circumcision is widely not practiced at birth, and america makes out it has more freedoms.

One of the biggest arguments in favor of infant male genital mutilation is that if left to do it after he turns 18 years old, he'll never get it done. That men who are intact don't want to be circumcised should make parents never authorize circumcision. You already know what he is going to want when he turns 18. He wouldn't want it done is no reason to do it!

I'm not. My son wasn't I until it was constricting no matter how well we were taking care of it. He is now he had it done when he was 3. It was very painful for him he said it doesn't feel the same anymore. I've read that some people that do it later compare it to losing a sense. I've talked with friends. I think I do feel more when having relations. They say their tips are similar to your lips. Mine is sensitive not painful but I can feel more I feel like. If I could I wish my son never had to get cut
