When I was in HS, I felt like a freak because I was not circumcised and classmates were. I never understood that in my family history circumcision was not done. My family were from Germany several generations ago. I never circumcised my son either. We talked about it years ago and he understood my reasons not to. He was lucky enough to have a father that explained to him what it was about. Talking about male body parts is something my dad avoided! If I had realized that in school, I would not have been so self conscious about it!

A men to this brother. I grew up in the 70s and was not circumcised. The constant teasing in after gym class showers in my catholic schools was unbearable. I was very ashamed of myself and still deal with those doubts in my head because of it. Trauma can come from bullying without contact even, and I still hear their voices. As a pediatrician, I did not have my two sons circumcised. I figured it came that way and if there was a problem, we'd deal with it. I taught them how to clean themselves and there has been no issue. In the hospital, when they were first born, the nurse kept assuming that I wanted them circed, and brought me a consent to sign. I said "no" and she was very confused. I know that most other countries do not routinely do the surgery, other than for religious reasons.

Circumcision is not a big deal. It helps prevent infections and diseases and problems that the foreskin causes. It's much easier for males to keep it clean when it is circumcised. Circumcision doesn't reduce sexual pleasure since men don't have that much sexual pleasure to begin with.

I am from the USA and my three sons were not circumcised. We did our research and saw no medical reasons to have the procedure done. We also are serious about our faith in God (Christian), and the Bible references in the New Testament tell us to remain as we are. My sons have had no issues with it and even say they are part of the “Hooded Knight” club. We should always question our beliefs and habits. It adds richness and depth to fully understanding why you do and believe what you do. Great videos, I love learning about the differences in cultures.

When I got pregnant I was posed with this question of whether or not we would circumcise and I researched the topic because I didn't know why we did because just everyone I knew was circumcised and from what I can understand my family had chosen to because we were Christians and in the bible God's people were told to circumcise their boys. So after researching and finding no real reason to do it, I left the decision up to my husband since I don't have a penis, and figured someone who did should have the final say. After fully researching my husband decided it was best to leave any sons we would have intact and let them decide if it was something they wanted to do in the future.

Besides it's only in the old testament that the Isrealities were asked to be circumcised. Old testament circumcision is clearly defined as a covenant between God and all Jewish males. Circumcision is not laid down as a requirement in the New Testament. Instead, Christians are urged to be "circumcised of the heart" by trusting in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on the cross for us.

We have far greater things to worry about in this world than a simple procedure such as this. He'll forget about it hurting after a few days. Yes, it would be hard to watch him hurt. Karla Mackey: Well, it’s not easy you could say he might not notice it or wouldn’t know about it, but I’m pretty sure he would definitely come to know about it at a later stage in life most probably in his mid to late teenage. Secondly wether you are circumcised or not it has got nothing to do with healthy lifestyle, that was something that was being said in the past, but recent studies have shown & proved it is absolutely safe & doesn’t cause any health issues to have your foreskin tacked. The only time some one would get their foreskin circumcised is when an individual is having very difficulty in pulling back, as in the foreskin will be very tight. Well even here, there were cases were by individual’s who had difficulty initially were later on able to stretch and pull back freely it mostly depends on individual’s but you should never force it, give it some time. Hence, you shouldn’t be worried or concerned at all about the health issues, thirdly (let’s be honest here) this boy would definitely master-bate at some point in life and during his initial tries he would probably need some lube to kick off the pleasure to a happy ending, because it is not that easy to pleasure initially, unless the penis is quite hard or really erect. Therefore in such circumstances the foreskin does a very good favor in sweetening the process and spicing things up. The other thing is the foreskin can help in preventing the sperm to ejaculate, let’s say if the boy is in the process of pleasuring himself and due to some reason he decides no let me not do it now, he can mindfully control to an extent from ejaculating that is if you are in the process and are about to ejaculate in few seconds or minutes and stops jerking all of a sudden he could do it with his mind or hold and gentle press the tip of the foreskin to some extent he will be able to prevent. So there you go the foreskin has an added advantage. Again, like you said it is not of a big deal, but if you are doing it for the purpose of what is being told in the Bible, then the scripture literally teaches us how and what is being told in the past and what significance does it have after Christ came and died for you & me. Sorry for openly discussing here, hope I didn’t offend your feelings. I was just sharing my opinion as a male how it works with us men.

I was at one point offered a circumcision by a surgeon who insisted that I would need it sooner or later. I didn't buy that for a second, and I politely said no way. In the end my family doctor prescribed me a steroid cream to resolve the issue once and for all, but only after I asked for it and after the doctor corroborated my claims with a quick search. I was born in 1950, and raised Catholic. I never even met anyone who was circumcised until I got to college. I went to Catholic elementary and high schools, and literally NO ONE was circumcised. I had no idea that it was so common in the U.S. When my son was born, the hospital tried to take him to be circumcised even though we had emphatically stated on admission that he was NOT to be. I verbally ripped the nurse's head off for not looking at the chart! (I shudder to think what would have happened if I hadn't been in the delivery room.) I am adamantly opposed to infant circumcision, for the reasons you stated in this video: circumcision is cutting off a piece of a child's body without his consent. Parents do NOT have the right to make permanent changes to their child's body unless it is medically necessary. We are supposed to be caretakers of our children, not their owners. A child can later choose to get circumcised, but he can NOT decide to get UN-circumcised. So I am a proud supporter of Intact America. In my 71 years, I have never had any diseases or problems with my penis, and neither has my son.

So many nurses and other medical staff asked me when I wanted to schedule the circumcision I had to threaten to sue them before they stopped and placed a huge "No Circ" sign on his crib! When I had my second son we lived in Turkey, so there was no problem with newborn circumcision. But, because we were in Turkey, boys got circumcised around the age of seven in a religious ceremony with a big party. So, my eldest son had to stand in front of his class and explain why he wasn't circumcised, and would not be in the future. I am totally against circumcision, it's a barbaric and cruel act, to inflict upon a young baby boy. Studies have shown, longterm emotional trauma, in men who were cut. The reason they say, do it shortly after birth, is the baby feels less pain, and heals quicker. I highly doubt that. And also, in North Ametica, the family is less likely to discuss the topic and discuss hygiene to young boys, like foreskin retraction and cleaning to prevent phimosis, which is extremely uncomfortable and then often requires medical attention, and circumcision. The foreskin is there to protect the glans, also provide natural lubricant and has millions of delicate nerve endings, which increase the feelings and pleasure. Many circumcised men suffer E.D. and have emotional issues. Stop the practice, and support Intact.

Thankyou for your comment. I have often wondered what babies go through. From my point of view, even taking a baby away from its caregivers is bad enough. I hope that you are doing much more enjoyable things in life now.

@Brock Hedge Good afternoon. I have just read your interesting comment in response to a compassionate nurse who, due to the area of her work, was subject to witnessing a mutilating procedure inflicted upon many vulnerable members of society. Firstly, I feel it is important to say that babies do not "just cry". This is directed towards any reader, and not just you. Crying is not something they "just do". Babies have no other way of communicating except by way of movements and making sounds. A baby ONLY cries when he or she needs to communicate something, sometimes to assist in their own survival. Most commonly, they are hungry but there are many other possible causes. If you have the huge privilege of spending quite a bit of time with a baby, without any preconceptions, you will, I hope, discover how babies communicate regarding all their needs, to help ensure a healthy start in life. I truly hope people here do not go on to ignore a baby in any form of distress. I do wonder, if someone you don't even know, so far away, who shows such compassion for babies, and such a desire to be helpful in an important discussion, in spite of abusive retorts from some people, I wonder how you might respond to a truly irritating but vital form of communication from someone you feel is crying, just because that is what they "do" and for no other reason. I like to think there is enough freely available material out there to guide people well away from such a dangerous way of viewing human communication. I have cared for four babies and two non-verbal adults around the clock for weeks, months or years. I have cared for hundreds of other non-verbal patients, sick, terminally ill, disabled, dying or mentally unwell adults and other babies for hours at a time. Focus, attention, observation, listening, responding reassuring and touch and even getting assistance and having a break, are all vital things involved in producing awesome outcomes. I hope I don't see anyone else here totally undermining a baby's amazing and wondrous ways, nor the amazing love and skill that a mother or caregiver provides through touch, smell, hormones and natural instinct. My comment is directed at anyone out there who is responsible for a baby or infant who may find it difficult to pinpoint the cause of distress in someone they care for. There are experts out there who understand the different types of cries, and hopefully this includes a very focused and in tune mother. And hopefully all that listening and caring continues until the death of one or the other of them. No one pretends that parenting is easy, especially when there are not good role models around (in the past or present), for the parents. But the effects of neglect can be very profound, last a lifetime and affect many people. Now back to the topic of babies and the practise of circumcision... Babies are human beings who have no say in the decisions made. I realise I have used adjectives and a verb that are emotive, in line with my personal views, but that is because this is not a pretty subject. The fact remains that that it does cause short term physical pain and suffering. A second fact is that it is mutilation. And a third fact is that the hospital patient is a human, has an identifying number but has no ability to give consent. These are facts and I would encourage parents to think carefully before deciding to have this operation performed. There may be many factors to be weighed up. The claim about UTI's I believe is wildly exagerated, to the point that I don't think it is actually valid in most cases. It is also not difficult to see why such an unnatural custom would come in to being, though, at certain times in history. I am sure that abusive comments would in no way sway a person one way or the other. And I hope that people with good will, intelligence, and experience to share, like the American nurse, is never bothered by the abusive comments that a very small number of people make on you-tube.

Thank you Feli for bringing up this topic. I am a 72 year old retired dentist, born in New York City in 1949. I was not circumcised: reason given was that I was born premature and if my parents wanted, they had the option of bringing me back in a few months when I was older. They never did which I was always grateful for, even though I felt self conscious while growing up during those moments when in the presence of others while changing in locker rooms, like cousins who would make comments that my "thing" was "funny" looking, which lead me to feeling a bit resentful. However, I never had any issues concerning the opposite sex at all. Now, let me say that I very much appreciated your presentation on this topic and not at all surprised that you are a European bringing attention to a procedure that typically most Americans would consider too taboo for even discussion. It's been a good number of years now that even the American Pediatric Association has come out against routine circumcision, and yet the practice persists. Why? My guess is that for the same puritanical reasons that Dr. Kellogg first promoted the practice, as you well mentioned in your video, and also, as most other useless medical procedures go, to charge more money. Thank you again for your inciteful video, it's always refreshing to get a European perspective on this controversial topic.

The American Academy of Pediatrics did not recommend RIC in 1971, 1975 and 1999, and recommended it in 1989 and 2012. The 2012 recommendation expired at the end of 2017, as per a protocol that the AAP applies to all recommendations in makes. I too was born in 1949 and grew up in the USA. I too am intact because I was born in a continental European maternity ward. My mother was nagged by her mother in law to get me cut. My mother shut down that discussion by threatening divorce. I felt extremely self-conscious in locker rooms and public showers, until I discovered that I could retract my foreskin, which would stay retracted for 30-60 seconds. I was so self-conscious that I did not lose my virginity until I was 37 years old, to an American woman who discovered, years before meeting me, that she preferred intact for foreplay and penetration.

When I was a first year resident in obstetrics and gynecology we did all of the circumcisions on our unit. At the time there was also the myth that newborns did not feel pain like adults or even children did. Very early in my experience that appeared to be absolute taurine excrement so I did a few minutes research in the medical literature (the hard way reading real journals, no internet) and found a simple and safe nerve block. When I finished my four year residency and was able t set my own limits ( like a freed slave) I promptly declined to do any more circumcisions, My reasoning was from a statement on infant circumcision from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (our national professional organization) which stated that circumcision performed on males was not after all a gynecologic procedure so they would not recommend or criticize it. Since it was not a gynecologic procedure I refused to do any and turned the matter over to my pediatric colleagues. My own son was not circumcised. After doing my best to educate my obstetric patients about the unnecessary ‘ritual mutilation of the newborn’ the most common reason given was’ well when he showers in gym class he won’t get teased for looking different’! It is very true that the Victorians and Edwardians thought that men were too horny for their own good, and that circumcised men were less horny. They also thought that all sex except with a spouse, including masturbation, was very immoral. I am a middle class boomer from the urban Rust Belt. Growing up, I spent a lot of time in many locker rooms, but saw all of 5 boys who had foreskin. My guess is that the circ rate in my generation was as high 98%. The reason is that maternity wards cut all boys without asking the mother. Health insurance paid for the procedure without question. Today, 55% of boys born in maternity wards are circumcised before leaving the hospital. An unknown number of boys are circumcised later in infancy, in the offices of pediatricians. Circumcision continues because American parents fear that an intact son will be ridiculed by other boys in locker rooms, and rejected as a sex partner when he starts dating. Keep in mind that many adult Americans have never seen a photo or a drawing of an intact penis.

Everyone should be showering alone in separate stalls. There are benefits from it. There's a drastic reduction in the potential transmission of bodily fluid-transmitted disease, especially HIV. There's a study that categorizes all forms of sexual intercourse: homo vaginal (F), homo oral (F), homo anal (F), homo oral unc performer (M), homo oral unc receiver (M), homo anal unc transmitter (M), homo anal unc receiver (M), hetero vaginal unc (M), hetero vaginal (M), hetero anal unc (M), hetero anal, hetero unc oral (M) and hetero oral (M) unless I'm forgetting one somehow. Transmission rate is highest for uncircumcised homosexual anal sex receivers as fluids from the penetrator enter the anus, which often experiences at least micro-tears during the sex allowing for the fluids to directly enter the bloodstream and also riskier for the penetrator of the sex if uncircumcised as penises that have no had the procedure done have many, many more mucous membranes which allow circulating fluids to enter the penetrator's blood stream as well. Next is heterosexual women anal then vaginal then oral because of the mentioned micro-tears, the massive number of mucous members within the vagina and the significant number of mucous membranes in the oral tract. Least at risk for infection are circumcised males because the mucous membranes are located within the penis so there is no outside exposure to fluids and the urethra remains closed until ejaculation, upon which time it is openly open when there is a pressurized fluid preventing things from entering. Obviously the effect can be somewhat helped by protection like condoms and dental dams, but condom failure rates are absolutely not as low as many people think and I have never even heard of someone actually following through on using a dental dam. This isn't to say this is a sufficient reason to circumcise, but it is a significant medical benefit afforded to those who have the procedure done. There is also evidence of slight decreases of certain cancers (nothing major, but anything helps IMO) and it can make hygiene a bit easier, but that's easily taught to men who are not circumcised. As for why it's done in infancy it's because infants and especially newborns don't really begin forming memories at that stage of their life so the procedure can be performed with no remembered pain or discomfort later in life.

In the States the practice of circumcision was rare in the 17th through the 19th century. It appears to be supported later in cities with arguements made by doctors who from different backgrounds once circumcised themselves supported arguements for its practice. People in America in the 20th century want to conform and fit in. American culture is motivated in part by following patterns of proscribed behavior based on the idea of fitting in. Why are tattoo's today so popular. Because the practice was marketed using methods and designs that made people stand out. Personal Statements. The practice of circumcision has little to do with male health. Instead Doctors simply made money to cut and went along with the arguements for. The rates of cancer are not higher in countries that do not circumcise males. Once the practice became established it simply bothered some in the modofied group if others in another group were not. If i am why not him. Males compare. Attitudes and behaviors in America can and do change.

Her main reasoning was hygiene, which was disproved with a little bit of research. As an uncut gay guy in the USA, this is a very salient topic to my life. The base cause of it in America is just due to ignorance, since it happened to so many men without it ever being brought up, its normalized and the foreskin is made to seem vestigial by society and medical professionals alike, with most men and women using hygiene, medical and aesthetic reasons to validate it without caring to know better, or if consent is important. A condom has way more benefits to aids than a permanent surgery against a mans bodily autonomy, let alone the botched surgeries or the dryness and loss of sensation caused due to having the protective foreskin and/or frenulum removed. Since its so normalized doctors and hospitals just might think its routine procedure even if they said they'd do no harm.

I'm a German living in Austria and I think that unnecessary surgery that is impossible to undo is a crime if done without the explicit consent of the person involved. I wouldn't even accept religious reasons, because I think religion is your personal thing and your own decision only, your parents cannot decide for you what religion you are and whether you are willing to have your body unnecessarily altered to conform to the rules of their religion. So I would prefer if circumcision, with the rare exception of urgent medical cases, is only done with explicit consent after an age when the boy can fully understand what it implies.

I mean that is like removing all your teeth, so you don't have to brush them. The skin on the penis under the regular skin, is more sensitive which the outer skin protects. It is no problem cleaning it, by pulling the skin back and washing it. I even pull it back when I pee, so I don't get any extra urine stains inside. Unless there are no actual medical reasons, a child should never be circumcised. That is in a way a human rights violation. A doctor that would propose that in Germany (or other European countries) for the sake of some bullshit hygiene reasons, would end up facing serious charges, as he convinced someone of a surgery resulting in a irreversible state, that wasn't medically necessary at all. To remove the male foreskin without medical necessity is a crime. The foreskin contains a large number of nerves which are destroyed in the process. From a physiological point of view, male circumcision is to be judged similarly to female circumcision. Nerves that are responsible for sexual pleasure are removed.

It has up to 20,000 nerve endings, provides natural lubrication during sex, and it provides mechanical gliding action that helps reduce friction. In an adult man, it makes up 50% of the penile skin. It's not just a snip. Whoever performs the circumcision has to shove something between the foreskin and glans to rip it off of the glans, cut it with medical scissors, and use some kind of tool to amputate it. Newborns cannot be safely anesthetized, so they feel everything. There's been babies whose lungs have collapsed from screaming so hard. At least 117 babies die every year from complications of the surgery, such as hemorrhaging. That doesn't account for the many, many complications that can and do arise later on in life when the boy hits puberty and becomes sexually active. There's painfully tight erections, skin bridges, meatal stenosis, and so many others. I agree that children should be treated equally, but this case is vastly different. The reason female circumcision is bad is because it’s so much more invasive and has longer lasting effects - it makes sex extremely painful, and even impossible for a woman to enjoy it. It’s horrible. Third world countries do it to women because they view female pleasure as sinful.
@MrDerLarsi
@MrDerLarsi 4 жыл бұрын
@@kyleebolinger6887 I must tell you that even male circumcision has significant late effects. It is often played down and many men do not dare to speak openly about the consequences. Transleted with Deepl from "Das große Zirkumpendium Die Wissenssammlung rund um das Themamännliche Beschneidung" "The great circumpendium The collection of knowledge around the theme of male circumcision" An unavoidable late consequence of every circumcision is the permanent loss of sexual sensitivity. On the one hand this is due to the removal of sensory tissue. The foreskin contains approximately 20,000 nerve endings and tactile corpuscles, which are responsible for the majority of the man's sexual sensation. When the foreskin is removed, they are no longer available for generating sexual stimulation. On the other hand, the surface of the glans reacts to the lack of protection against friction and dehydration after a circumcision by forming a cornea. As a result, the sensitivity of the remaining nerves in the glans decreases over the years. The study by Sorrells et.al.61 showed a significant reduction in the sensitivity to touch of circumcised versus intact penises in adult men. Other studies showed that circumcised men use condoms much less frequently than uncircumcised men, as these further reduce sexual sensation (see above). Tension pain can occur if too little reserve skin has been left to allow a full erection.62 This risk also depends on the anatomy of the penis, because while some penises already show a large part of their final length in the flaccid state (flesh penis), others are quite short in the flaccid state and grow to double or more in length when erected (blood penis). Especially in the case of circumcision of children, when the penis is not yet fully grown, it is not possible to estimate the necessary amount of reserve skin in adulthood -rectile dysfunction. Both the damage to the blood vessels in the foreskin and the reduced sensation of pleasure can be reasons for reduced erectile function with increasing age.63 -Orgasmic problems. As a result of reduced pleasure, due to the loss of sensory tissue and cornification of the surface of the glans, orgasm problems can occur with increasing age. In this case, the excitement generated during sexual intercourse or masturbation is no longer sufficient to achieve orgasm. A preliminary stage of this late consequence is the longer time the man needs to reach orgasm. This is often cited as the argument "circumcised men can last longer" for circumcision - vaginal dryness. Due to the loss of the natural sliding effect caused by the shifting of the foreskin and shaft skin, a significantly higher friction between penis and vagina occurs during sexual intercourse. This can make intercourse painful for both partners and lead to skin abrasions.64 65 The longer time circumcised men need to reach orgasm and the often - compared to uncircumcised men - longer and harder thrusting movements also play a role here. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

@@kyleebolinger6887Male babies still go through a lot of pain when circumcision is done on them. Also, I think you are confusing female genital mutilation with female circumcision. While female genital mutilation is a lot worse than male circumcision is, female genital mutilation is different from female circumcision. What female circumcision would be is removing just the clitoral hood, and not the whole thing like how it is with female genital mutilation. The clitoral hood is very similar to the male foreskin. If female circumcisions were done in hospitals, it would just be like most male circumcisions. The laws protects females from any form of genital mutilation, it even protects them from having just a tiny prick done to their genitals. In which, I think males deserve the same protection. I think all forms of forced genital mutilation (on any gender) should be banned.

My gallbladder? How dare my parents not insist the doctor remove these organs that were perfectly healthy at birth in order to spare me the pain of surgery later in life? It's a ridiculous argument. Newborns aren't given anesthesia for the barbaric procedure. An adult, or even juvenile, male will be given anesthesia and follow up pain relievers. It's not even a comparison. And, to add to that, there are more issues associated with a botched circumcision (ignoring the fact that it dulls sensation, which those who were cut at birth don't really understand) than later complications associated with keeping them intact that may our may not require an adult circumcision.

In many parts of the US, circumcision is lower 30-50%, which is good! I’m a midwife and many patients say it is to match the dad or for hygiene. I am thankful I practiced in England and Germany where I saw that it was NOT the norm and learned about the evidence against circumcision. I hope as more and more boys are not circumcised in the US (most of my patients who decide against it are because of bodily autonomy), this will stop being normalised.

Thank you for your great video! Your common sense on this topic is a breath of fresh air. I've hated the ugly scars from my earliest memories as a child. I didn't know why I had scars and thought there had been a terrible accident. I didn't find out until I was a teenager that this was done on purpose, and I felt mad as hell. I've share my experiences with friends, associates, neighbors, etc., and when they are dealing with childbirth, carefully ask them to let their children make up their own mind when the child grows up. And I donate to charities trying educate people and change the practice. Responding to your question about why we think this practice is still done in USA, I think there are a variety reasons why genital cutting is still common in USA, though they are not necessarily good reasons or justified. I am not defending these reasons, just stating why some people still do this. There are a many VERY important reasons to leave children intact. And you've mentioned some of them. -- 1- Cultural inertia, which means cultures are slow to change and often resist change, whatever the practice is. Parents pass it on to their children and perpetuate the cycle. 2- People acclimate to things that seem common, regardless of how odd the practice is. 3- Doctors have long been authority figures. Historically, people accepted and did what doctors told them to do without question. (think about 1950's) 4- Most people think they are doing the right thing; they were given reasons to do it by people that want to continue the practice. Luckily, some people are rethinking that. 5- It has become an industry in USA with lots of vested interests that fight against changing the practice. 6- Some do it because of their religion. Certainly people will cite other reasons also. But hopefully, over time, the practice will mostly die out, as it has in other countries. Thank you again! my $0.02- PS: to understand more about the American issues and debate on male genital cutting, look for the documentary called "American Circumcision", an excellent documentary which was release a few years ago. I think it is still available on youtube. I have no affiliation with that movie, just think it was a good documentary that allowed people on both sides of the argument to state their views. There are also many other good documentaries and lectures about this on youtube.

Agree with your reasons, and would like to suggest one more, which is that parents probably want their son to look like everybody else so he doesn't get embarrassed or ostracized later in the locker room at school, etc. (That's just speculation on my part, but I'm sure it's one of the reasons why this questionable practice continues.)

I think another factor at play here with the percentage being so high is that it has gotten to the point that some parents see circumcision as the norm so when they decide to circumcise their sons they're just doing what is normal. I've dated a girl that asked me if I was circumcised or not well before we have gotten to the point of being physical and she told me the reason as to why she asked me this question is because she refuses to be with a guy who isn't circumcised. She described an intact penis as looking and feeling weird. The thing is with someone who was circumcised as an infant and claims they have no problem with being circumcised is no different than someone being born with 3 fingers on each hand and being completely fine with not being born with 5. How can they miss something they've never experienced. To them, it's all they've ever known so they don't have anything to compare it too. They've never experienced sex with all the added nerve endings that come with the foreskin as well as the sensitivity it brings by keeping the tip covered up. So, if someone says they have no problem being circumcised and they have been since they were an infant then the natural response is, "Of course you don't. Because you don't know any different." I'm saying this as someone that was circumcised as an infant. So, I can honestly say that I have no frame of reference to compare the two. So, do I wish I was intact? I honestly can't answer that because I don't know what it's like. Something that I do wish is that I had the choice to decide for myself and if I ever have a son I will fight tooth and nail to make sure that he isn't circumcised as a child. If he wants to make that decision as an adult then that would be his choice...

@Not You 1. I disagree and 2 you're missing the point. The point, as i stated earlier, is if you're born one way then that way is your reality and you're not going to be wishing you were another way.If you're born with 3 fingers on both hands you're not going to care about not having 5. As opposed to being born with 5 and growing accustomed to having all 5 fingers and then someone cutting them off. Whether i make the comparison with oligodactyly, being blind, being deaf... the comparison still fits. You do realize there are blind people from birth who have, after being givin sight, would rather live with their eyes closed. People who are born able to see would never want to go blind. Being blind is a part of who a blind person is. Same with being born with three fingers and same with those circumcised as an infant. When that's all you know... when thats your reality, of course you're going to be okay with being circumcised.

This actually really shocked me (being from europe), I didn't know so many infants are circumcised in the US for non religious or medical reasons. I think there should be a law in place that protects babies from having their parents do that to them. Every male should be able decide for themselves if they want to have this done or not later in life. Not giving your child a choice when it comes to their own body being changed forever is crazy and frankly quite cruel. It's even more strange to think that female genital mutilation is heavily and rightfully condemned in western countries but male genital mutilation is not regarded in the same negative way in the US. I hope this tradition will eventually go away, it shouldn't be a taboo anymore.
