Great series, loved the footage and friendly competition with Firecrest, looking forward to how you solve the Genoa issue. Once you confirm the sail is cut to specs it would be interesting to know if other boats of this design are experiencing the same thing and how they deal with it.

For your Genoa, try some blocks further aft to feed the winches, maybe even from behind the winches. This will help pull the foot tight. Then use your deck track for barber-haulers to adjust the downward pull. This should give you a broader range of angles of pull on the genoa clew. We’ll soon have you tweaking like dinghy racer😂

Nice Boat. But the headsail is sized wrong. Try unfurling it and ease halyard, remove tack from furler and attach it to the deck, like a hank on sail. Then apply halyard and sheet it in. Bet the sheet hits the track, foot flattens out and leech opens up. And put tell tales on leech of main.
@sailingcosiloveit
@sailingcosiloveit 2 жыл бұрын
Brilliant you're spot on! Since video I found luff was too long for foil. It's shorter now and fits but only just. Where were you 6 months ago when I needed you. Nice to have you onboard. Please keep the tips coming. Oh and my next move was the tell tails for the main leech. Regards mike

Hi Mike, I've found stronger winds and full loads tricky to manage and still learning. Main leech tell tales helped me on balance, w-h and slot shape. Even ended up easing the main from observation. Sailing upwind with a cruising bellying Genoa could be that it was probably cut for all-round performance. I've been struggling with the same and probably need a barber hauler for more twist up top in heavy going. North Sails webinars on youtube are a great resource. Checkyour stay tensions and drum height as every thing changes under highs load, regards, Peter

you are pointing too high withough enough mainsheet on. in 18 knots upwind you are going to heel no matter what so you want to use your traveller and main sheet and reef as required. you're doing great! i love this channel
@sailingcosiloveit
@sailingcosiloveit 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice Ben, I know it makes sense but my traveller is really poor, short and makes little difference. Been spilling wind in the main to counter weather helm due to Genoa size and shape but hopefully this will be a little better this year mike

@@sailingcosiloveit if you have too much helm, consider adjusting the rake of the mast, especially in the big breeze you will need to rake it back. but overall, a small boat like the swallow is always going to be overpowered in 25+ knots of breeze. i have a channel called bdk racing, please pop over take a look :) i love sailing too!

Furl the geni a bit to change the sheet angle? As you mention the track a bit far forward but not sure even that would be enough give the right angle for windward. Clue a bit high? Maybe a new genoa . Thanks for the vid.

A wonderful video I really enjoyed it. Your genoa looks poorly cut in my opinion. Try showing the video to your sail maker. I don't see how you could flatten the foot even if you brought more track aft. Seems it was given too much draft and the clue height/angle is odd. Fair winds Captain. Best.

I enjoyed your videos as I used to sail Anglesey. A bit disapointed that this is your second video without much footage of the swellies, my favourite part. Although I do understand that your concentration may be on seamanship rather than video! Regarding your Jib, how high do you think that a motor sailer should point into the wind? Would easing off the wind a little still achieve the same VMG?
@sailingcosiloveit
@sailingcosiloveit 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Neville I’ve covered the Swellies in detail on other videos and try not to repeat myself too much. I’ve been sailing her loose up to now and with little heel and yes she has performed well but because I can’t get the Genoa correct when sheeted in leaves me with the feeling that there is more. So I think I need to look for it and find out one way or the other thanks mike

You've got enough fenders for a 70 foot boat, me and my mate were watching you hauling them over and we were laughing and wondering if it was ever going to end. Nice little boat though, what is she?
@sailingcosiloveit
@sailingcosiloveit 2 жыл бұрын
Hi again, I find you can never have enough fenders. You just got settled against a wall and someone ties to your outer beam with only one fender leaving you to fender up for them as well or suffer the consequences which I have had in years gone by. She’s a Scanyacht 290 aka LM27 and I have a walk through video some videos back now but you can find it just by typing in “sailing cos I love it”. Thanks again mike

@@sailingcosiloveit cheers mate, she is a lovely looking boat, the exact type of boat I'm looking for. Unfortunately down here in Oz there isn't a lot of this type and I'm seriously thinking I might have to look at bringing one from Europe. I'm told a container isn't that expensive, but I'm unsure if shipping containers get to 30 feet. Could always sail her home I suppose.

Looks like the track needs making longer or the jib is cut wrong
@sailingcosiloveit
@sailingcosiloveit 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris the easy answer was to increase the track length I totally agree, but when I looked at the job a lot of boat furniture would have to be dismantled to gain access to the nuts and bolts. This doesn’t look an easy option so I’m looking at other ways now. The sail could possibly be altered, but again I will look at all other options first. Thanks for your input mike

Hi mike, I’ve done this and yes it works but having a role in the Genoa when the wind doesn’t require it just feels wrong. Also I have a foam luff so quite a lot of air disturbance at the luff don’t help drive much. Getting ready to make some other adjustments to see if it helps.. thanks for your input mike
