Hello Mike, I’ve only just discovered your excellent videos….. they’re not only very well presented but educational and inspiring too. Robert (Morwenna - Crabber Mk5, Conwy).

Wow a local, hi Robert guess I will see you around sooner or later. Please say hello if you see me as I’m very fond of Crabbers. Cheers mike

@@sailingcosiloveit Hi again Mike, yes definitely…. I’d like very much to meet you and swop notes…. Sea ma chilli looks like a Mk4 with fixed keel and back stays? Whereas Morwenna is a Mk5 with Swing keel and no back stays but in other respects are from the same stable. Gaff rig is new to me, but I’m enjoying the new experience…. I’ll be looking out for you…. Best regards Robert.

Another great vid Mike!! Educational & also, for those of us having early season second thoughts & concerns as to whether the winter maintenance we undertook was up to scratch, a real confidence booster & incentive to get out there & give it stacks. Chin-chin

Just watching your vids. They;re fantastic and very useful. I turned 50 this year so have decided to mark it by sailing round Anglesey, so they're both enjoyable and very useful. I set sail from Conwy this Friday.

Brilliant vids, very instructional for beginners, a great help. Other channels don't seem to show much navigation, other than a quick look at a navionics screen. Quick question, what paper charts are you using, are they Imray? Cheers, Rich
@sailingcosiloveit3 жыл бұрын
Ye Imray but for no particular reason other than they are widely available mike

Hi Mike, Great vid and very informative. Have you considered a stack pack for the main ? Your boat seems to be very well sorted and have everything else. I have a stack pack on my Shrimper Mk1 and I find it a mixed blessing.
@sailingcosiloveit3 жыл бұрын
Never even thought of a stack pack. It would be quite long at 15ft and possibly hinder taking in a reef. Never seen a stack pack on a gaffer, you will need to send a pic mike
@MichaelAppleby_art3 жыл бұрын
@@sailingcosiloveit I have only had the Shrimper for a couple of months, she is about 30 years old (sail number 377) and the stack pack looks like it could be original !!! I might make a video of it since a picture would not show much. We have just gone into a two week strict lockdown in Cyprus, so no chance to get to the marina right now. The stack pack is the same colour as the sails (Tan) and it works reasonable well at collecting up the main, but since all my controls are on the boom, the stack pack is often in the way when it is hanging loose and I need to get to the topping lift or a reefing line. I think stack packs and lazy jacks are not a new idea - I will have to look into that.

I will look out for the video mike

Hi Mike, really appreciate your videos and I aspire to reach your level of sailing skills. A quick question, what furlers did you use on your Crabber? Cheers, Chris.
@sailingcosiloveit2 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris thanks for the kind words. I used Plastimo 406S reefing on the Crabber as I wanted them to work when the wind was up. The original ones where really hard work when the wind was up and couldn’t be partially furled either. Only downside to this was laying forestay on deck when bringing in the bowsprit. The staysail was no problem and was fitted permanent to the original forestay. Hope this helps mike
