Did this in the 80s to Pompeii from Sorrento, easily one of the most terrifying train rides of my life. We were going so fast downhill through the mountain the whole family started to exchange worried glances. Did it again in 2012 and clearly speed restrictions are now in place as it was no where near as fast. A great train ride. Love it.

Wow this video has brought back some wonderful memories of travelling on the Circumvesuviana on our family holiday to Sorrento in 2015. We live in Wales and are used to beautiful scenery, but the journeys from Sorrento to Pompei, Herculaneum and Naples were so memorable due to the amazing views from the train. Thanks for posting this video, which I put on the background whilst i'm doing something 'boring', this video adds a pleasing element. If you get the chance to go.....you must Italy is an amazing country and the Italians are so welcoming.

It's 2023 and they closed Pozzano in 2019. Big sad. I go to Naples every summer.

Thanks for uploading this beautiful track. Every time I'm surprised how fast the trains go.

Onkel Jajus Bahn I was just on this train a few days ago and was surprised how fast we were going at times. Fun ride standing up facing backwards with two rolling suitcases and a backpack.

Wow I enjoyed that, I watched the full journey. I liked the landscape and architecture after leaving Sorrento and the magnificent views.

Bellissimo. Used this from Piano di Sorrento to Naples and Torre Del Greco a decade later. What confused me most, is the left-handed traffic on the line and the location of P. Garibaldi and Porta Nolana: they were almost impossible to find for me :)

Many thanks for satisfying my curiosity. We were there in mid May and the trains never stopped there but they caught my attention as they were reasonably well lit.

Been on this train many times while I was in naples, really a good and cheap way to travel between naples and sorrento.

Shot on the afternoon/early evening of the 3rd of September. I would guess the summer timetable would be still in force in early September. The train crew were wonderfully obliging about my camera looking over their shoulders.

Thanks for video. We Aussies from Down Under are tolerant of Italian migrants because we have a similar good sense of humour. So you bumped the camera a bit ?

Beautiful, thank you for filming and posting. I was on the train about two weeks ago once more, and this reminds me what a great technical achievement the creation of the line was. Aren't the names like poetry, even if the views are sometimes a little rough? I hope to deliver a short illustrated talk to a society of Italophiles soon, and I will be sure to reference this video. If you can advise me of any specialist reading matter in the railway's history I would be delighted. Grazie!

We thought the train finished at Piazza Garibaldi due to misunderstanding the on train announcement so prepared to hop off. I couldn't get the camera back in position for the last segment - besides it was too dark to get a decent video. GoPro Hero 2 cameras need good light.

If some one cares to make up a table of station names vs time, I'd happily put the station names in as a annotation track. I could probably sit down with a route map and work it out, but....

Is this track width smaller than north america? Can NA trains fit on these tracks?
@MatthewGeier3 жыл бұрын
The Circumvesuviana is 950 mm gauge, not 1435mm standard gauge like NA or even most of the rest of Italy. Not that a NA train would fit on pretty well any track in Europe. The rails may be the same distance apart, but North American trains have wider and higher bodies than typical European trains, so while a NA locomotive could run on Italy's standard gauge tracks, it would tend to hit things alongside the tracks.
@visionist73 ай бұрын
It would be cool if this line was standard gauge and inter regional and intercity trains visited Sorrento. Even high speed trains. Sarebbe bello se questa linea fosse a scala piena e gli inter regionali e intercity arrivassero fino a Sorrento. Anche gli alta velocità

They are just normal stations: Scrajo Terme and Pozzano. Due to its mountainous location there was no space at the surface to build them.
