Disney live action reboots are a terrible idea in general. Coke pulled this same stunt back in the 80s when they tried to introduce a new formula that tasted more like a diet cola. While numerous taste tests showed it beating both Pepsi and the old Coke formula, consumers revolted at the idea of trying to "improve" something that was already as close to perfection as you got. Disney is doing the same thing now, trying to repackage their animated films as live action for a more "mature" audience. Sure, they make money, but they compromise the integrity of the original animated classics. The moral of the story is, don't try to fix something that isn't broken.

Thanks so much for this! It's what stood out to me as the best part of the animated movie. I understand why they cut it in the live action, though I personally prefer it as i see it as her "point of no return" point when the decision had been made. But surely they could have kept the music and everything else as it was just as impactful, perhaps replacing the hair cutting with her suiting up in her dads armor/looking at the sword/leaving the comb by her fathers bed. So many different things they could have altered to be more respectful but maintain the gravity of the scene. I feel this movie mainly failed because they didn't honor the feel of the animated movie. It didn't have to be the same in story if it at least illicited the same emotional weight. Sadly, it was lackluster at best, boring and pretentious at worse.
