We are taking off from Orlando Executive Airport (KORL) and flying up to Greenville Downtown Airport (KGMU) in a Cirrus SR22.
The weather is nice in Florida but takes a quick turn once we reach norther Georgia and goes into solid IMC (Instrument Meteorological Conditions) and shoot an approach into the airport (RNAV 19).
I try to talk through everything I do as much as possible in order for you guys to follow along with ease.
If you are new here: Thanks for stopping by, and make sure to check out my other flying videos. If you'd like to see more of the content I provide, subscribing helps out a lot!
Enjoy!

Another great video. I especially like how you leave the camera view in one place for enough time to take in everything. Some others constantly change camera angles after a couple of seconds which I find distracting. Your chosen views, detailed explanations and procedures make me feel like I'm flying... when I'm not flying. I actually follow your flights with Foreflight in hand. You didn't mention it but a flight such as this one is yet another reason to get IFR. Beautiful bird btw.

Thanks Alfredo! I am glad you mention this about the camera... Because lately I have been changing the camera angles a little more to see what works best, so next video might look a bit different. But please keep me posted on which one is best and I will stick with it. Happy landings!

Here's a little disclaimer: I do fly about 750 hours a year, so pretty much all procedures on the aircraft I fly I feel confident to do it blindfolded (which I wouldn't obviously) just be careful, keep your attention sharp, and stay safe! :)

Wow , great video. It’s by far the best IFR video I’ve seen in a long time. Impressive how far ahead of the airplane you are at all times. You dont see that to often unfortunately. My Cherokee is over at KCEU (Clemson airport ) and I fly that Approach often. Have to love the GFc 500. I have dual G5s and the GFC500 and love it. You had mentioned VNAV issue , I still have a 430W , so I’m not able to use VNAV, but I can tell you that even without VNAV, the AP will try to climb into the GS if your power setting is slightly to low. Unless you’re referring to something different ? You also had the pleasure of talking to the cranky Speed demon Tower controller !!! That guy is terrible. I’ve heard Students pilots get totally confused by him multiple times. Actually had a Cirrus turn into me as I was flying the RNAV 1 approach because he misunderstood the Tower. If you’re ever over by KCEU , let me know.

Appreciate the kind comments man. Yeah I wasn't a fan of that guy. I remember one time I flew in there he asked me something, but wasn't very clear about what he was asking, so I asked him again what he meant, and he answered back like I just offended him and his mom. Whatever. I'll for sure let you know! I'm in the regionas now, but maybe I'll get back into the GA world. Safe flying my friend!

Nice video. Well done approach and landing. I wondered what your thought process was in not having anti ice on?
@FlyByGarrett
@FlyByGarrett 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot! The anti ice stays off unless I see the Outside Temp reaches 5 degrees Celsius or less, and there's visible moisture. From there I start paying attention to the icing indicator tabs located on the leading edge of the wings, and I also consider any reports of icing from other aircraft. In this case, most of the icing started a couple of thousand feet above my altitude. Hope this makes sense!

Your cockpit management is outstanding! Ive never seen a run up while taxing before, is that a Cirrus thing? I'm currently in IFR training.
@FlyByGarrett
@FlyByGarrett 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! No, not really. The whole runup while on the go just came with practice and a close eye from my instructor while I was training to be a CFII. He stated that to be a good Instructor, you have to be great at multi-tasking. I eventually moved to the pilot services world of things, and I found it very efficient and money-saving to do the run-up this way. Please don't do it if you are not comfortable with it. I usually make sure that I'm on a straight path with no aircraft in-front of me. Really glad you liked the video!

How did you do the mag checks at 1700RPM while taxiing? Do you ride the brakes or just go faster and finish quickly?
@FlyByGarrett
@FlyByGarrett Жыл бұрын
Yup, just hold the brakes a little harder to not gain speed, do the magic check which should take less than 20 seconds, and go straight back to idle. If you see issues with the mag during this and need to troubleshoot, stop the airplane I'm a safe spot and go through whatever you need to.

Can you tell us about the 4 second throttle rule? I don’t think I’ve heard that specifically.
@FlyByGarrett
@FlyByGarrett 2 жыл бұрын
Of course! I saw it in a Cirrus training video some time ago. You go from throttle idle to full throttle in a span of 4 seconds so you won't overstress the engine crankshaft when increasing the power. Its a very good practice for any piston aircraft really. I would do it in a span of 3 seconds back when I flew the 152 and 172.

I'm still steering it manually! Taxiing is done using pedals with your feet. Then the controls you see used by mt hands are the ones used when in the air!
