CIS Nanny State Awards 2023

What was the worst, most nonsensical, most invasive government policy of 2023? Culture Program Director Peter Kurti presents the Nanny State Awards of 2023 sharing with us the many areas where the government thinks we need a babysitter.
The Centre for Independent Studies had intended to follow the rules for US presidential polls and ban any candidate from running in the Nanny Awards if they had already won twice. But when you come across a case of idiocy so perfectly exemplified, so meticulously constructed, that it rips apart the very fabric of space and time, we decided we had to rip up any plan to ban it from being considered once again for the awards. So, what has happened?
Ingrid Newkirk, founder of PETA, has updated her will, bequeathing a slice of her buttocks to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to protest the practice of mulesing in sheep. PETA's unconventional methods include a sheep mascot at the FIFA Women's World Cup. The article discusses various Nanny State proposals, such as banning ads for utes and SUVs, removing fossil fuel sponsorships, and calls to ban junk food TV advertising. The winners of the 2023 Nanny Awards are announced, with Comms Declare securing first place for proposing a ban on ads for utes and SUVs. Smoking is disgusting though. I fully support it being faxed out. It’s no good to anybody. The government can use the tax it’s collected to give every person free gym and aquatic centre life membership.
