What a strange market video games is where companies, almost across the board feel it's entirely acceptable and necessary to release half-baked products. What a weird time.

Armored Core 6 and Lies of P were extremely well optimized, too bad they are the exception now.

Wierd time? It's a bad time. The corporations are taking over most studios and putting profits / immediate returns over a quality product. We have to push back and demand a finished usable product upon release. Simply do not buy OR wait for a year, get it on sale and running better. This game should not be released yet, like many others.

Later on (with mods / DLC) you could try to start 'cleaning that up' a bit, but only if you were able to and chose to unlock the tiles that led you to that body of water where it was all collecting. @Petrico948 ай бұрын
I played Skylines1 pretty casually just sort of experimenting with city building. I like that the new one adds some new features and streamlines water and electricity better but it also doesn't look super fleshed out yet. Maybe it just needs some more updates and dlc, Paradox will certainly roll those out, but when you release a new game especially a sequel you want to make it look like it's already a great experience. Think HoI4 vs 3 or Crusader Kings 3, even the new Victoria has much newer graphics and ui that could make it worth checking out for players of other games in the series or want to jump in with a more polished experience that is expected to grow.

Hopefully release gives them enough data to figure out what needs to be fixed fast. Also update your GPU drivers before playing. Developers and GPU makers usually work together to fix bugs on big releases.

Well, it has been delayed for console's, they know it won't run very well on most systems unless you have a upper class PC, which I am lucky to have... but most people are even still rocking GTX 1080s from a few years ago... which honestly, even cs1 can put my PC to its knees with an 81 tile mod city. This might actually be a todd howard upgrade your PC moment lol.
@Secretsofsociety8 ай бұрын
@@arcadeportal32 Yeah I mean that is PC gaming for you. Have to upgrade eventually. 1080 is pushing 7 years old. That said I think a 10 series card will be able to play the game in 1080p. Cityplanner plays got a 970 to run it at a framerate I would call playable on very low. The 10 series was a huge leap from the 9 series. I recently upgraded from a 2070 super to a 4070ti because I wanted to max out ray tracing in cyberpunks DLC. I looked up how much my 2070 super sells for and it can be bought for 150 on ebay. That seems like a really good deal considering that card handles pretty much everything besides overdrive ray tracing in cyberpunk. Even handled that game unoptimized before DLSS with ray tracing on without a problem. I think people got complacent about upgrading because it wasn't necessary for so long because everything was getting ported to ps4 and xbox 1. We are in the next gen now. Should they keep making last gen games for pc?

@@arcadeportal32 Sidenote most people commenting on this have no idea what they are talking about. I think Biffa said the most telling thing if I remember correctly. That is if you run out of ram it starts paging to the hard drive. So 32 gb of ram might solve most peoples problems. I actually got 32gb because mods in skylines 1 require tons of memory. Nothing else I play requires that much. Hard drive paging is something I never thought I would ever hear about again, probably a sign of memory leaks. If this happens the game will be extremely slow even if you are paging off a super fast nvme drive. This was a common problem in the windows XP days lol....

‘Usually’ with Cities….there’s been ONE game, there is no ‘usually’. I honestly think they should have taken the extra time for the polish. Because Cities 1 did so well in recent history people are willing to give it a pass. But the improvement should have been more polish on initial release of the sequel, not the same level of polish. And mods (also known as free player labor) should not be a tool devs rely on.

Itll take a little bit for them to truly optimize this. The biggest thing is that the community needs to give it a little time and continue to support the game. There's enormous potential here, and i understand the devs were trying to get the game in players hands and put optimization a little on the backburner for the time. This is already an incredible game!

@discipleofvecna62358 ай бұрын
Agreed. My biggest hope is this isn't as big a flop as KSP2 was. This game looks super promising, and I know it's going to get better. But first impressions matter, and if this games flops, it may struggle to recover - more so with them moving some tools like modding off of steam (which I don't disagree/agree with) and starting off with poor performance. If they get modding off the ground fairly fast, it'll resolve alot of the prop issues which will allow more granular details people have pointed out are missing, but it's hard to optimize performance on a game with performance issues.
@jasonbfhfj81328 ай бұрын
If we continue to support companies that do this then corporations are just going to keep pushing unfinished games. You understand that right? At some point we have to say enough is enough. One caveat with all Paradox Interactive published games should be that the game will have LOTS and LOTS of DLCs down the line and will eventually even feel incomplete without some of those DLCs. So the upfront cost of just the base game is never the entire cost of the game when it comes to Paradox games. Cities Skylines 1 itself has DLC's worth many 100's of $!!

I guess the problem is that if you have the first one and have bought all the DLC for it, then there is currently no reason to buy the second one. If the second one makes no money then the devs can't justify sinking more money and time into it fixing it. Also, it seems like the second one is missing a lot of the content that had been added to the first as DLC, meaning now we the players get to re-buy the same content trickled out over years all over again.
