This was great! I raced a pole vaulter once. I was an intermediate hurdler like Warholm, but also ran high hurdles and was just out of high school. The pole vaulter was a collegian, or maybe had already graduated, I can’t remember. This was an All-Comers meet at Hayward Field, which I liked to run whenever I could during the summers. Anyway, I was always a quick starter and typically ran a 40 yd. dash in 4.45, so no slouch. So that day I decided to get in the open 100 yd. dash. It still wasn’t metric in those days. But this vaulter smoked me. He was gone in the first 20 yds. and I just watched him run away as I didn’t have anything like the top end speed he did. His name was Tinker Hatfield. That’s right, the famous Nike designer. He designed not only shoes, but the new Hayward Field, as he was trained as an architect at UO which had a fine, very demanding architecture department. So I can say I raced Tinker Hatfield at Hayward field. Not everyone can say that.

I know who Hatfield is (I read Michael Jordan's autobiography when I was a kid and was into Air Jordans) but man I had to look him up and according to Wikipedia he was the top high school athlete in Oregon and was a football running back and also ran hurdles along with pole vaulting. This is the future of track and field. Nothing to lose or gain, no records to break, no real training is done, but "such a special moment" to see. So unfortunate this is where we're at, so far from true achievement: running faster than anyone ever has before... All in the name of money and sales
@admiralaokiji78894 ай бұрын
no wonder he's transcendent in the pole vault. Coached by his world class dad since he was 4 years old, mentored by Renaud Lavillenie who is a legend and wr holder breifly, plus 10.3 speed. He can vault 6.40 I guarantee it.

Mondo knows his way 🎉around the 100m. His start and drive phase would make any professional sprinter proud. He also held his form really well to the end. Great race by both but Mondo clearly had better technique.

as a fun comparison, nfl star dk metcalf ran a 10.37 as well vs pro sprinters not too long ago ! impressive outing for mondo and karsten here ! 🔥🔥
@joedagg44954 ай бұрын
Except DK is juiced up to the gills. His track stats in high school weren't very impressive. Now he is suddenly 110kg shredded and can run a 10.37? F Off.

@@joedagg4495 I mean it is possible for people to improve. Not saying you're necessarily wrong, but he honestly is probably drug tested just at much or more than other track athletes (who are probably on something too).
@joedagg44954 ай бұрын
@@infiniteimprovement His high school hurdles times suggest he wasn't close to running a 10.3. Now, without any track training, he's suddenly hitting that mark. Additionally, his FFMI is far above any natural threshold, even surpassing the most genetically gifted natural bodybuilders, with an extremely low body fat percentage. I disagree with the claim about drug testing. The NFL is likely one of the dirtiest sports when it comes to PEDs. He could have juiced up before joining and now maintains a mass he could never have built naturally thanks to muscle memory. While PED use is still present in track, it's clearly not as rampant as in the '80s and '90s. This is evident in two ways: Today's athletes are far less muscular and unnatural-looking compared to those in the '80s and '90s. Many female world records from that era remain untouchable. PEDs have a more pronounced effect on women, yet modern female athletes aren't even close to the records set by Soviet and East German athletes.

Maybe was faster than the women's world record, because he is a MALE athlete. There are rumors that men have more powerful bodies, especially because of much higher testosterone levels and that this would give men an edge over women in many sports. Have you heard about these rumors?

Maybe he should not be allowed to compete in women's 100M. What do you think?

Nah duplantis would have no chance at the double distance. He is incredibly explosive thanks to pole vault but after 150 meter warholms stamina would easily catch mondo

@@gtrdoc911 yeah most 100m specialists. But he isn't a specialist. 200 meter is too long for a pole vaulter. For a short distance pole vaulters or long jumpers are faster than a 400m hurdles runner. But after 150m is over

Holy crap, if Duplantis ever put in a half effort in the decathlon, he could be waaaaay up there. Easily the most technical event in decathlon is pole vault. He'd score 2000+ points in that event alone and could cruise some other events. With speed like that, long jump, 110 hurdles, 400m would be a cake walk. High jump would be nothing with that speed and body awareness from pole vault. he could just do a bit of work in shot and javelin and voila, you have a top ranked decathlete right there. Because like I said, His pole vault would net him such huge points he could go light on the throws and still win.
