Great review. I have the AQ4030-51E (black washi dial, lumed) and treat it with no respect. I wear it pretty much all the time (biking, hiking, showering, swimming) and it still looks fantastic. I have a 6.75" wrist, and it fits perfectly. My opinion is that it's a Rolex Datejust - only more accurate and better made. Sleeper GOAT.

I agree. As a single watch it is probably unbeatable. However as a two watch collection I want this one for the light dial and smaller size and then something like the 4030 but with GMT for travel!

Superb instrument. The 23 jewel movement is bench made by one master watchmaker, and is finished with geneva stripes (tokyo stripes); beautiful to look at. Loved how the Swiss pretended the Citizen One (1 sec/yr) didn’t even exist at Basel World. That watch equivalent to the 4 minute mile or breaking the sound barrier in terms of horological achievement.

Thank you for your reviews. I'm at a stage of my life where come the end of the week it is nice to take off my work tool watch and replace it with something more refined. Beautiful watch, I agree that mechanicals are a bit of a pain when you consider the frequent re-setting, drops in accuracy and regular servicing during which you will not only be relieved of more money but you will be without your watch for weeks - not really a true luxury? This on the other hand moves closer to my idea of luxury with its high levels of finishing, amazing autonomous accuracy, perpetual calendar and zero-low maintenance. Citizen have achieved so much - pioneers in titanium, eco-drive and world’s most accurate watch. Their marketing department needs to up their game as if I created the world’s most accurate wrist watch and has their budget, every household would know about it.

I bought the 2022 version of this Citizen AQ4091. Fantastic timepiece, but I would have preferred the vintage styled Chronomaster text line rather than the current flattened chicken 😊

For all you people who don’t have a radio solar watch, pull out your IPhone down load the atomic clock app. Once in the morning I check the time and Adjust my watch if needed with the atomic clock. Since both my 1916 Elgin coin silver pocket watch and my 1949 Omega Tresor watch are manual Winder watches my two watches are adjusted when I wind them.

What can you say about a watch company that builds it’s own watchmaking machinery from scratch; that engineers and manufactures its own chips? Citizen also made the very first titanium watch. 1970.

Great review, I see some else mentioned in one of the comments that they went from watching the Grand Seiko to watching the Citizen Eco Drive reviews. Maybe it's just me but I never put Seiko on the same plateau as Citizen. I've always considered Citizen several steps above Seiko. I'm still trying to decide if I want it in a green, red, blue, black or the white dial. I bought the Citizen CC7000-01l, and that dial is blue. I bought the Oris red cherry dial. I also purchased the Citizen CC5001-00W which has the green dial. So I have some thinking to do.

Can’t find much to complain about here. The Washi paper dial is a work of art, the case form factor and dimensions are perfect and the combination of solar power and hyper accurate perpetual calendar movement is just brilliant. In Europe, Longines has more horological street cred than Citizen, for historical reasons, which make this watch a tad pricey compared to a Longines VHP

@@tentimestwenty I do agree with the lack of solar sourced power, but the 40 mm AQ4030 is very close in dimensions to the 41 mm VHP, the latter having indeed a sportier vibe to it.

Yes, this has the washi paper dial vs. a kind of champagne solid dial. also bracelet is much nicer here. But if you like the look, no technical difference between the two really.

@@tentimestwenty Got it, thanks! Personally I like the more vintage-style of the other bracelet, plus the fact that the hands actually touch the indices (nit-picky, I know, but that's me). The washi does give an amazing texture, though. The hunt is on!
