Citizen Promaster NY0086-16le "Pepsi" & Citizen Promaster NY0040: Fantastic Automatic Dive Watches

A few Months ago the new NY0085 (coke) with the 8204 movement in my collection. It become my favorite daily beater, so i guess the other watches are a little bit jealous getting much less wristtime. What a wonderful, reliable, robust, accurate and good looking watch.

They’ve now updated these with the hacking 8 series movement for really no cost difference. Just ordered up the NY0085 (coke bezel) and look forward to seeing it!

These watches are fantastic value for money. ISO rated divers. The Myota movement is more accurate than the Seiko 7s26 movement. I have three. The original black dial and bezel, the Pepsi model as shown and the fully lumed dial model which is my favourite.

I am considering this for my first Diver's watch in my collection as I already have a Seiko. Should I also look at Orient and alba (although it is not really a diver with only 10BAR spec)? I am particularly attracted to the design of this watch and its thinner than Orient.

I love this watch. You may also like the Citizen NY0040. There is one with a black dial and one with a blue dial. Also check out the Orient Ray 2, it’s a great proposition. Seiko SKX009 is also wonderful.

@@GadgetsforGentlemen Thank you, I am trying to get hold of a NY0040 to feel it along with the 88/86. I think they feel the same except for the color. No other change in features. The reason why I like this over Orient is that although they may be very close in the lug to lug measurement, the thickness of this Citizen is lesser and the difference really shows when you wear it. I have a G shock of similar 12.4mm thickness and it suits me perfectly. I am not keen on Seiko as I already have one, even though its not a diver's its an automatic. I am also considering Eco drive after seeing Citizen's collections. They are underrated and also little more expensive because of the their Eco drive movement.

Much appreciated. To me it seems like the exact same watch. Be careful there is both a black dial and blue dial version with a pepsi bezel. Make sure to get the one that you like.

Hello, I'm thinking to get one of these. Just in shop they are saying it is not possible to change the straps with non original coz it's some strange or something. It's hard for me to believe in that story..

Hi! Thanks for writing. You can change the straps easily. For example a NATO strap or leather strap. Straight end metal bracelet. Normal size 20mm. Check my archives if you want to find out more: look for citizen ny0040 on my channel.

I once owned a Citizen Automatic Marine Sport NH8385-11E , bought grey market (creation watches) for 99 euro, but didn't like the metallic look of the hands, indices and markings on the bezel, or the green color of the lume, it gave the watch a cheap feel, so I sold it again on marktplaats with a profit LOL. Now I am looking to get me one of these, the Pepsi Promaster, but I would like to know: how is the lume color and how are the hands, indices and bezel markers on this watch? It's hard to tell from a video. Also: I own a watch with the Miyota 8215 movement and it suffers from 'stuttering seconds hand syndrome' 😂 how is the 8203 movement behaving? Cheerz, us Dutchies rule 🤘 Ps: I think you forgot to mention this is a certified diver's watch.

Hi there, when I change the time or date the second hand keeps running as well. Mine has no hacking function. However the movement allows for handwinding.

Is the best Pepsi in original design for the price? Probably this or the SKX, I guess.... Even though SKX prices have gone up. Its a shame these Citizen's have average bracelets with folded links, not sure if you can get solid bracelets designed for these models...

Very under the radar these....according to 'The Urban Gentry' the Black version of this is used by the Italian navy. Exactly the same level as the SKX apparently.....for a lot less.

I like that channel! The NY0040 slightly altered I believe: Marina Militare. Up to 500 meters. All in all amazing watches. This watch is basically the same. Just different colors. If I am not mistaken 🤓 I have the black dial version too.

@@GadgetsforGentlemen I have the orange and the black MK1's which are still the best I think (with really simple rectangular markers). Yes very nice. They fit very similar to this I think, in terms of footprint. Very compact but more square in profile so will feel bigger...even though there's little difference. Like all things Seiko though they do go for too much now I feel. If you like the Citizens....Monsters will feel like an old friend.

Would love to test them one day. Couple of weeks ago I pulled the trigger again on the SKX009J1. Prices have risen. Although they might end up being collectibles, the Citizen is a more economic choice 😁
