BuzwellLP If SC pulls off half of what they have planned, I'm sure I'll never go back to visit Eve. Eve's players can still get bored and want to move on - money sunk doesn't fix boredom with something that has gotten old. The social aspects are very similar, exploration is there, production, mining, the setting... you can make quite a few comparisons. I'm following SC fairly closely and I've played Eve. The key difference will probably be "dogfighting", which will no doubt keep a good number of Eve players where they are. Death consequences are another wild card. But CCP doesn't need to lose every last player to get into trouble. There are A LOT of space sims (not just SC) coming out in the next few years. Some will be vaporware, but still if I were CCP I'd be worried. It's hard for the old and known to compete with the new if the new is good (or better). I'd say Eve's lead in the genre was softened for takeover as soon as they gave up on the "walking in stations" thing. It's clear people want that to be a part of these games.

The character movement is tied in with the animations that is why is seems so floaty and weird as it is still using stock crytek animations but the Fps section of the game is being shown off soon and they have been working on the motion capture for the new movement and animations which will eventually be added to the rest of the game,so hopefully it should be much better than it is now.

How it looked in space from inside the ship is simply stunning.. and the fact that you can actually get up, walk around and interact with your ship is icing on the cake. But I have one small beef with the game. I want the option to land my own ship. Sometimes the satisfaction and feeling of immersion from simply being able to land your own ship after a long flight can be just as satisfying and immersive as spending hours exploring the stars.

Okay... I have to niitpick one thing here; "Open 24 Hours"... So, this planet is Earth I assume? Or a planet with the EXACT Rotational cycle we have? Or do all planets have "24 hour days" but the hours have different minute lengths to account for the difference in Planetary Rotation? I know it might sound silly and it might seem like an unnecessary detail, but this game seems to be going for realism to an insane degree, so I figure real-life science would be used to accurately portray different aspects like this. One thing I think the devs could definitely take note from which has very cool and realistic statistics; Mass Effect. Check out the different planets in that game and how they work based on their solar relationship, planet size, density, etc. Certainly some stuff that I hope makes it into the game as I find that stuff fascinating. I actually plan to finally do another PC build around when this game comes out so I can maximize the potential of the game. It looks VERY interesting and I think it could have a solid, passionate playerbase, something akin to EVE Online. Keep up the great work guys.

@xxCrimsonSpiritxx
@xxCrimsonSpiritxx 8 жыл бұрын
+YouJustGotMowedDown Thats exactly what i had in mind as well, it'd be soooooooooooo much better to be able to manually get into a planet's orbit and atmosphere and landing gradually into a designated city (or even a remote desert place in that planet if i wished to), they could make that auto-landing as an option for manually letting the ship execute a touchdown on the landing area, not the whole thing!
@xxCrimsonSpiritxx
@xxCrimsonSpiritxx 8 жыл бұрын
+Norwegian Well if anyone is going to blow up his/her ship "for the lolz" it's their loss, then i assume ships wont be handed for free everyday to allow this sort of behavior, there is no room for trolls in SC, another way to combat that, automatic touchdown landing instead of all automatic landing from space to runway, this maybe a forced option or simply optional ... there is just so much to be added to this masterpiece
@KingdaToro

MrNapudo who said i was "bitching" about something. i just asked a simple question that came up to my mind, keeping in mind that this game is probably a year away from being released. and also because Robert said that they are pushing the Current pc to its limits and i want to know what can be achieved. I was also thinking, how would it be for people that will get to use the "Oculus Rift"? will it pop out of immersion when the go into a planet? Ps: I think the game looks amazing, never seen anything like it before. I love space, and i was very happy when i saw this game pop up somewhere. it's not like not having a "seamless" transition from space to planet will break the whole experience for me, but it would be nice. Again, i just asked a simple question... i know making games is extremely hard, especially one as big as this one.
@Zemadclover
@Zemadclover 9 жыл бұрын
They said they would make it as seamless as possible. Right now in this demo you can see short cutscenes here and there. They said those will be removed (hopefully) as time goes on.
@michaelashton8754
@michaelashton8754 9 жыл бұрын
Both valid responses, I am under the impression that while there will always be a translation between instances (universe > orbital > planetary) the landing operation 'should' with further iterations of the game be more advanced. You'll note that ArcCorp 'air control' was controlling the Connie's descent using 'EDL assist', which logically speaking, not every planet is going to have! I imagine with planets where 'not much' is happening, like in the Connie trailer, it will be a case of 'scanners have detected a suitable landing site' (which will 'just so happen' to be near something of significance) you then fly into the planetary instance, which would probably have a 3rd person view as it loads up. Then you could choose how and where you land, the how actually having an affect on the state of the ship (ie. if you mess it up, the ship could take damage).
@Zoza15
@Zoza15 9 жыл бұрын
The seamless experience is also dependent on the capable graphics cards for the upcoming years. Indeed, rendering planets and AI and physics all over the Place is very fucking intensive, If Star Citizen Pull this off and Nvidia manage to make monstrous GPU's to run this game, then they have set a new stone for PC gaming..

I can run it at an average of 40 fps in arena commander and 60+ in the hangars, and considering it is not at all optimized yet, I am very happy (AMD FX 8350 CPU EVGA Geforce GTX 780 SC w/ ACX and 16 gigs of ram)

It's going to need to run at ~90fps minimum at all times on a GTX 980 with the Oculus Rift CV1. Not impossible once it's optimized well.

+Hagop Shishmanyan They've touched on PU stuff in Monthly Reports and what not but most of their focus seems to be on the FPS Module right now, they've also talked about stuff like character creation and the PU economy in "10 for the Chairman" episodes. I wouldn't be surprised if more PU stuff was shown off at Citizencon in October.

It never ceases to amaze me that something so amazing can be so close. Something that allows you to visit and experience a persistent future with such realism. To move around in it. To fly in, land, and leave your ship and move around. I read the complaints, the criticisms and just shake my head. Some people seem to have vision that ends six inches in front of their face. Yeah it's taking time. So what? I'm happy Chris and company are taking their time. I'm ecstatic they are building one of the wonders of the (gaming) world---not just a 'game'. Go ahead Chris, build the Taj Mahal. Build a great pyramid or the wall of China. Give us new galaxies for our imaginations to roam in. As you build it, they will come. :)

The pilot referred to his ship by name. I wonder how that'll end up working in the end.
@SpyzacFilms
@SpyzacFilms 9 жыл бұрын
either they would make it so you speak the words and they do this, or you select a name from a bunch of names, or they add a system were you can type the name of the ship and the game will pronounce it as the docking system sounded more automated than an actual person, we will see what they do, I honestly hope they either do a system were you speak your self as that would generate the most immersion or the third system I said, or they just add something even better we will see

***** I'd love to see a text-to-speech thing for ship names but I don't think the technology is good enough. I hope Chris will take a wander around at PAX Aus in his free time, I'd have a chance to ask him then.

As one of the artists to make it into the final 10 in TNGS comp, the art is looking fantastic. The only thing that bugs me is the lack of saturation. They need stronger colors! They also need to fix that damn normal map aliasing! Jaggies everywhere.
