Kind of.. So the game has "been in development" since 2010-12, depending on who you ask. They based the original code on CryEngine, but that was 4-6 year ago, and have rewritten more of the code than not. Its more like saying spanish is based on latin.. Sure, with huge changes.

When the camera zooms out showing the crashed ship and the sandworm I was expecting the ships and sandworm to suddenly blink out (like a texture unloading), but it never did. It just got smaller and smaller until you just couldn't see it anymore. That is epic view distance!

But... I dont get it... like.... the view distance is so far... how is it not all in 1 fps? Sure, they are using a GTX 1080, but still, just a single one and it works that good.
@Albertrossus8 жыл бұрын
there are no view distances. They basically invented a new technology for themselves which replaces them with infinite lod. As you can see inside the demo he looks up to a space station with his scope, its the same space station as in the beginning of the video which has rotating cyrcles, and you can see them rotating slowly the moment he looks at them with his sniper rifle. ( its @ 19:45 )

Imagine introducing your buddy like that. Have him start out on a planet, with some basic planetside missions and he has a ton of fun for a few hours, then randomly comes across a NPC offering a mission to fly some supplies to the moon. And instead of it being some scripted mission you'd expect from COD, your buddy realizes he can actually fly anywhere he wants to and sell the goods elsewhere. Boom.

@guferus7638 жыл бұрын
That's couse devs promised in depth trade, facions interacting with each other, meaningfull lore that would made you as you said want to explore more and more. Sadly we all know how it ended. Here in SC, at least everything is transparent, each added or planned to be added feature is presented and talked over, there are concepts of everything that comes later. I just hope that Star Citizen is gonna hit the phase of persistent universe in a basic playable form with all core features as soon as possible, or rather before the hype will die. Then from that point when game is gonna be in it's "vanilla" stage, they will be able to add new features without the stress of "Oh mah gawd we gotta release this game at some point"

@Sir_Brennan8 жыл бұрын
You definitely do need a high end PC to get 60fps with settings maxed, but you don't need an extremely expensive high end PC. My 980 and old i7 4770K eat this game up with settings maxed and a custom config file to push a few settings even further. If fps wasn't server reliant, I'd be pegged at 60fps always. Once they further optimize the LODs and get the streaming system perfect, I'm sure a 1070 (or equivalent card that'll exist when the game finally releases) will be plenty to run 1080p @ 60fps. Keep in mind that they only used a single NVidia GTX1080 for this particular demo and the frame rates were fantastic for something still under heavy development.

yes it will be, the game will feature at least 110 systems filled with planets, moons, stations etc. but the planets and moons will be procedurally generated however certain areas for missions etc will be handcrafted
@StarCitizenJorunn8 жыл бұрын
Not quite accurate, the planets are rendered procedurally but they are essentially hand crafted with very advanced toolsets of biome "brushes" that they explain in previous interviews and the end of the long full presentation where they show the tool being used. "“We are using the procedural generation to create the undulation in the terrain or determine the distribution of trees or rocks and we are using that to fill out large areas, but the areas are specified by an artist,” says Roberts. “The way that works is that the artist can create biomes, which are templates for different areas. So you can have a template for woodland forests, or a temple for jungle, or grass land, or mountains and even within in those you can have several variations. Then you paint the big area, you basically say ‘this area is mountainous, this is woodland, and this is where the ocean is’, and then the procedural code takes that and uses that as a guide to place the biomes correctly and alter the height map. In two hours they can generate a planet and then they can spend time tweaking areas by hand.”" Chris Roberts from Redbull Games interview

I am also fully aware that this type of a game would be developed even after it's released years to come. I can't even imagine what would they add in the future. EVE Online PvP with it's alliances fighting for dominance over the given systems + X series single player + .... just endless possibilities.

Walking and running animations probably wont change much if at all because they are real. They used motion capture for all of the movements. I wonder if player wills, at some point, get the ability to buy a patch of land on a planet and get basic editing tools so the players can build their own bases and such. Imagine a group of players buying patches next to each other, creating cities in the end. I mean, we did see how efficient some of their tools are in the demo after this one above. Or at least a patch of land (or space even?) for player corporations of a certain size.

Really sick Undertaking, tbh. What they try to do is something no one ever would try because its awesome and such a big risk alltogether. I mean the Sun rises, because the Planet rotates and is actually of that size which is already one big step to insanity. But it does not stop there. I mean how is this even possible to render in this grand scale? I think this game will at least take more than 3-4 years till its somewhere to be played as a consumer, but since there is no publisher they have that time to polish it. And 340 people that work on that project is quite a big number, but still impressiv what they have accomplished thus far. The biggest risk i see is in quality content, aka things to do. (Meaningful things to do). Flying and walking arround planets is all nice and so on, but without things you can do, its sadly meaningless. Anyway great demo and really impressiv.

CornerrecordZ So when I record gameplay, I use fraps and the quality is top rate. When I render a video I use vegas and have Full HD sertings with high bitrate. When you upload a video youtube rapes all of the clarity and colour depth out of the image so the only thing HD about it is the resolution.
@BladeofAkire8 жыл бұрын
CornerrecordZ x264 is the algorithm/codec used to compress the frames into a smaller size. This comes at a cost, a cost to quality. You can see similar affect if you watch a blu-ray and compare it to HD delivered via cable or satellite.
@BladeofAkire8 жыл бұрын
CornerrecordZ Yeah look carefully on the downloaded versions and you will notice gradients in the colours (particularly sky) and when there's a lot of action you will noticy the clarity drop a lot.

This is what I wanted 'No Man's Sky' to be... Or this is what I would like a Star Wars game to be. Many different detailed ships that you can also walk in their interior, realistic looking graphics and not this "Instagram filter" 'No Man's Sky' had, awesome flight system, huge planets that you can actually land on. I know this game is not ready yet, and I would prefer if they added some wildlife and some cities in SOME of the planets, but no matter what, I've decided to buy it when it comes out. This game looks awesome!
@Mosern19778 жыл бұрын
Well look for the 3.0 alpha then (probably Q1 2017) - then you should have these planets and some more basic gameplay.
@alexkoutoukas22668 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've seen it. It looks awesome. But I meant more "normal" looking cities. You know, the city being actually in the surface of the planet and having futuristic cars running around, and people, buildings, skyscrapers etc... I know it's too early for that, but I hope that they will do it at some point. For me, cities, and wildlife are the 2 things missing for the game to become perfect. :)
@Mosern19778 жыл бұрын
Well, there are 'city' - planets (whole planet is a city). However, those will not be 'free-roamable', and you will be forced to use specific flight corridors by the planet's flight controller. As for wildlife - I hope (and expect) that to come in the future. Large exotic game hunting profession must be great.
@alexkoutoukas22668 жыл бұрын
Hmm... That's kind of a deal-breaker for me... :/ (the cities I mean) I don't like being restricted in an open world game.But I still hope that they will fix it and actually make the cities and all the planets fully explorable. I'm not worrying too much about the wildlife, I'm pretty sure they will add it to the game eventually. I sawin the presentation that they have added some small animals like crabs near the water.
@Mosern19778 жыл бұрын
You can of course land on these city planets (but not everywhere). However, you will not have millions of km2 of city-space to run around in - but interesting shops, bars etc around the landing area.

I hate how people are panning this, saying it will be another No Man's Sky. Well, let's look at the differences: Hello Games released a few short videos, and Shaun Murray made numerous interviews, promising things and showing a few select clips. Cloud Imperium actually takes us around the development floor where you actually see people working at their computers on the game. They have numerous shows, videos, weekly status updates, and even CitizenCon. They allow us to see what is going on in the game as it's being made. And Star Citizen, even in its Alpha form, is already better than No Man's Sky. 3.0 Planets will just send it far beyond.

Do planets rotate around their axis? Do they rotate around the star? Will stations orbit around planets? Will there be orbital mechanics? If I build for example a huge base on a planet, will other be able to see it? Will it be there forever? Also will different planets have different gravity? Will there be air resistance and air pressure? And also is everything destructible?
@Mosern19778 жыл бұрын
Yes, they will rotate around their axis. As there is no faking of stuff, you'll get the night/day-cycle for free. Rotation around stars = maybe (they are discussing it, but no final call on it yet). If you build a huge base - yes it can be seen by others (ref you can see the huge space-station). Air resistance and air pressure - they intend to make the ships that look aerodynamic fly better in atmosphere, than those that have 'brick' shape. Destruction - not likely for buildings (not heard about it/seen it).
@Temirkul8 жыл бұрын
Mosern1977 What about orbital mechanics of ships and stations? And so if I make a big hole on a planet it will stay there forever right? Will others be able to see it? Is it the same with structures? Thanks for the response.
@Pizvo8 жыл бұрын
Yes they do (the position of the sun, movement and shape of shades and coloring of the atmosphere at sunrise and sunset are just a byproduct of accurate particle lighting from a real-size fixed star, advanced volumetric processing of atmospheric gasses and the planet rotating around it's axis; no cheating there, no skyboxes and coloring, all simulated). No, not at the moment, perhaps never (relative speed difference between reference frames is a huge problem in accurate large scale simulations with limited ship speed). If they implement custom building then yes, everyone will see it (the instancing system will not exist in a classical way, the "instance" you are in will be your observable surroundings, with the server ignoring other players you cannot see or interact with; the exceptions will be large trading hubs and points of interest with high traffic). No info on the level of persistence yet. Yes, they will have different gravity. Yes, air resistance and pressure are a thing, also drag and lift inside an atmosphere. Terrain and structures aren't destructible, but there is tech for that (procedural damage models in ships) so perhaps in the future. It's not likely however, because the amount of changes in environment would strain the servers.
@Temirkul8 жыл бұрын
Pizvo So if I do something on a planet (dig a hole or build a base) others will see and be able to interact with it right?
@Mosern19778 жыл бұрын
We have no confirmed info about 'digging holes' or 'building a base' will be in the game. However, the artists are doing it in the editor right now and they can play right away in their changed environment - so who knows - we might get a limited version of those tools.
