It is. Star Citizen's development is best taken with a Zen approach where you come back for a few weeks at a time at 6-18 month intervals and are wowed by how things have progressed. People who play it obsessively like it's a complete title are prone to getting irritated and impatient. Keep things in perspective.

@@thebeck1012Definitely feels like part of the cycle, taking a break that is. I'm on a pretty good break right now, haven't played since April. It wasn't anything particular that made me stop. I just kind of lost interest because alot of things are very narrow in scope right now. Salvaging was fun to a degree but also not something where I was super excited to do it all the time. After seeing all this I will likely wait till pyro as well before coming back. Other than maybe reshuffling some ships this November and waiting for s42 ill probably be chilling and just keeping an eye on the leak discord and this channel.

I had to show my team too, who raised it through the whole company. It's seriously cutting edge and to me has huge implications for multiplayer videogames seeking high playercounts, but the engineers it reached mentioned that this is likely a catalyst for a huge range of applications I didn't understand, they talked about cheap redundancy and grouped fail-safes the most, and were quickly trying to come up with terminology to pitch it to investors for production attempts, I think this is pretty serious and sounds like it'll be the future of servers in general.

I don't think it's any exaggeration to say this is the most technologically sophisticated and ambitious game I've ever seen. We've seen stuff like this from AAA games before, but never with this kind of seamlessness and scale. These simulations aren't running in a tiny little 2km by 4km pocket dimension, they're running at the scale of whole planets and solar systems. That is just mindblowing. A sane CEO would never have attempted this. A responsible publisher would never have funded this. Thank God Chris Roberts and CIG are both thoroughly irresponsible and a bit crazy : )

Basically the A.Is could be the actual construction labor workers who need to fallow the blueprint given to them. A.I will really change the gaming industry for ever, but I guess we need a good 10-20 more years for A.I to reach such a level, or perhaps even less because its just exponentially growing, and when A.I is coupled with Quantum Computer Processors, well, welcome to the matrix

Regarding the tech demo, you can tell that this is running in real time because there are many imperfections throughout the video. Like NPC's walking into each other or doing silly stuff. LOD's popping in, albiet while the camera is moving at an extremely faster rate than any other game normally would. A bit of frame pacing issues but that could've been from the stream tbh. This is all not to say that this isn't impressive technology because it really is. This looks to be the future of gaming and I'm all here for it.

@@deRNmEpRrMm That's because the only sounds you'll be hearing will be traveling through solids. Solid materials - especially denser ones like metal - do a couple interesting things to sounds traveling through them. First, the materials are dense so you're going to get a lot of finer detail dispersed between molecules, somewhat muting the sound. This also means smaller wavelength frequencies (i.e. higher pitch) noises are going to be absorbed as their wavelength is smaller than the size of the particles. Harmonic resonance in solid materials is also a factor - larger pieces of metal are going to produce more bass-heavy noise thanks to the large number of particles that are vibrating. As a result, the only sounds within something like a spaceship with an atmosphere suspended in a vacuum that will travel will be lower-frequency. In larger ships, it should be even lower. The one thing I do want to note that I wish there was more of is noises from things like air conditioner/cooling fans, and sounds from metal stresses (creaking and bending) - both of which would be audible at higher frequencies. But that's added on top - that's not really a flaw of the modification.

dont you want to see more pvp/coop activities, missions and other actual points to keep playing the game? because currently, with water physics or without, after you finish your grind and try all the loops, there is not that much to do...
@VitorHugoOliveiraSousa

@@ictr3ma255 what will make the game alive is the economy simulation, to deploy that at scale they probably need server meshing working or they would crash servers with the simulations. After they have integrated a stable version of server meshing we probably will get a update on the quantum economy tech. They have close or already past 1000 devs, the people that work on engine tech are not the same that are working on gameplay loops or the economy. They work on parallel and when baselines techs are finished it open possibilities for others things they have worked on to come up online.

Certainly, however note that they can always add content quickly and easily wiht a massive 1000 dev team, but developing these foundational techs is more important and harder. If they develop a lot of content before certain tech like destructible environments, than they will have to remake all the missions and content just so that they function probably. So, while I complete agree that content is still lacking, there is a good reason for why they do not focus on it.@@ictr3ma255

I tried the free event and while the game had some performance issues and many bugs I saw the potential and the immersion when stuff worked was amazing, and it's an old version without any of these features implemented. I won't be playing more of the alpha but I'll keep the game in my mind for sure, because if all this innovative tech and what I saw in the Squadron 42 "held the line" video is the end goal, this game can truly be something special that changes the standards for video games.

I feel like nowhere near enough people are talking about the raytraced global illumination. This will change the entire feeling of the game because at the moment the lighting in ships feels totally disjointed with the environments and makes them feel artificially separated from the outside. This should make you feel much more connected to the external environment when you are in your ship.

I am so glad to see FSR 2 and DLSS support being added. I was talking with my pals during the 3.18 launch that FSR 2 and DLSS could dramatically improve the gameplay by making it smoother. It's no secret you need a hefty setup to play SC.

Its a good improvement! I can speak for this as an AMD user as we can use FSR (as RSR on the driver side) and the new Fluid motion preview driver (Frame generation) and yes.. It is a massive improvement in *some* areas. The issue is: The game isn't GPU bound.. its CPU bound. For a long time and even now if you have a good build, higher graphics settings = More fps VS low settings. This is due to pushing the load from the CPU to the GPU. Its the same concept as adding vulkan. Vulkan itself will only add 2fps, its the smaller optimizations that truly matter. Even running RSR and Fluid Motion, essentially doubling my perceived FPS, you can still very clearly feel the CPU side of things. The hitching, latency, and so on. Also.. too many game devs have started using FSR and DLSS as an excuse to not properly optimize their games. However CIG has a clear intention to really focus on optimization and so on. I would rather less focus on things like DLSS and FSR which are essentially bandaids VS focusing on all the other important things, the small optimizations which stack up. I.E. Vulkan alone? 2fps+ but you do get many.. many more drawcalls (Further render distance at the same performance) Vulkan with optimizations they have shown and code cleanup? looking at a 15-30fps increase~ For reference my performance w/ different techs in Star Citizen 3.22 on Loreville right out of the hab spawn when you walk into the city: (Probably the most heavy place to render in the game) NO RSR/AFMF : 20-30fps~ At 1440p max settings WITH RSR/NO AFMF: Also 20-30fps~ upscaled from 1080p to 1440p (No difference, its CPU bound) WITH RSR/AFMF : 40-60fps~ upscaled from 1080p to 1440p (adds about 0.1-0.3 seconds input-to-screen latency) In space looking at Daymar: NO RSR/AFMF : 80-120fps~ At 1440p max settings WITH RSR/NO AFMF: 80-140fps~ upscaled from 1080p to 1440p (slight difference, this situation is GPU bound but honestly that 20fps high gain is less important to me than the 1% lows which don't increase at all) WITH RSR/AFMF : 160-240ps~ upscaled from 1080p to 1440p (adds about 0.01 sec of input-to-screen latency, AKA near unnoticable unless you are a competitive FPS shooter player who plays at 200+fps framerates)

Seeing how much of these upgrades and tools are going to be integrated into a license-able lumberyard version is going to be interesting. A lot of this is being built especially for Star Citizen but there is definitely possibility here to make Lumberyard an incredible engine with massive potential.

@EeroafHeurlin 7 ай бұрын
Lumberyard is long gone it's Open 3D Engine now and backed by Linux Foundation instead of amazon, as for StarEngine (they have changed so much that calling it lumberyard or o3de would be incredibly misleading) special sauce making it to the open-source side; I highly doubt it will happen anytime soon if ever, or even CIG starting to offer licenses of StarEngine to outside developers.

I feel Maelstrom is among the most indicative features of the journey Star Citizen development has taken. I remember way back in they days when the playable version was called Hangar Module (I think the weekly show was Around the Verse at the time), the art teams began working on "damage states" on fighters, where the fighter model would be updated upon receiving 25%, 50%. 75% and 100% damage. I was happy beyond words when the announcement came this archaic method was abandoned and developers began working on Procedural damage instead. And just look at where it is now. Outstanding.

Absolutely awesome stuff! Hopium is real! But just two points from me: 1. What is the logic behind ship interiors being THAT flammable? Are we using flammable paints in the future? 2. Is the newer planet tech going to smooth out the issue of texture patterns. It's kind of jarring to see the age-old repeating textures next to all the eye-candy awesome visual tech.

it's all the electrical wiring behind the panels. Also not all ships are that clean ships made by drake are cheaper so they have exposed parts and are more run down inside.
