Me getting the notification from Star Citizen about the MISC R.A.P.T.O.R. right as they are talking about the Pulse/Raptor in this video. What perfect timing......and trickery from SC.

Still more tasteful than the 404i April Fools Gag few years ago.. There's not as much anticipation for the Raptor as there was for the 400i, so this year wasn't as much of a gut punch 😅

In my view, the unique capability of capital ships is long-range power projection, also to areas with little or no support infrastructure. This has historically been a mission that capital ships were designed for. Small craft typically lack cargo capacity for extended operations in hostile territory. This is also the kind of mission I would like to see in SC eventually: a capital ship/fleet raiding/attacking a distant star system or deepspace facility.

Star Citizen's equivalent of a "raid" absolutely should not be 30 players in a single ship. It should be 30 players in a fleet of ships, each with 1-5 players working as crew teams. Maybe 10 for the capital, with the rest of the capital crew filled by NPCs. I really hope NPC crew managment and the associated logistics is a huge element to the gameplay loop for operating large ships. It is the NPC crew that will make these ships feel alive and lived in, and it gives CIG and easy lever to balance large ship upkeep. Players arent going to be using the showers, visiting the cafeteria, mopping the floor, sleeping, etc. There also just isn't going to be 30 players worth of things to do on an Idris for an entire mission. It should not be close to optimal to solo a capital ship, but at the same time it should not be optimal to have more than ~10 players on a single ship. If you have 30 players, the other 20 should be in other ships. Your fleet is your raid.
@Farrister
@Farrister Ай бұрын
I kinda agree too. But I think different sizes of ships will have a different mix of that. eg an Idris might need to be with a Hammerhead, plus pilots for the carried craft. Whereas the Javelin we were specifically discussing probably has more of that role self contained (I'd expect stuff to do aboard for 15-20 people). I've always thought of a Javelin as more of a cruiser than destroyer.
@jbirdmax
@jbirdmax Ай бұрын
Except players who don’t use the showers, won’t be able to get missions and will affect the rewards. And players will be using the beds for drop in/out gameplay that has been planned since Kickstarter, and was recently affirmed as remaining. And if you’re not going to eat and drink, you’ll be dying. Also capital ships so large that they have their own tram system will be a thing. However, I do agree about having too many players as a requirement is a bad idea. If it’s optional, and CIG can make options to play with a smaller, more manageable group as you say, this would be best IMHO.
@Aethid
@Aethid Ай бұрын
@jbirdmax Players are not going to be doing any of those things on the regular on capital ships during an org event. If you walk down the corridors, through the berthing, through the bathrooms, and through the cafeteria in a wholly player crewed ship... chances are you will see nobody. That players can do these is quite irrelevant to my point here. The ship will not feel alive without NPC crew around, because you aren't going to have a full crew of hardcore RPers on your ship.
@jbirdmax
@jbirdmax Ай бұрын
@@Aethid yeah that’s a good point. I mean, maybe see someone on a crew of 30 (which I agree is ridiculous) and Chris Roberts can be quoted several times over the course of development that he wants player to NPC ratios to be close as possible to 1 player for every 9 NPCs. My only caveat might be fighter pilots.

Owning a Carrack right now is like keeping an eagle in a bird cage. Love the idea of upkeep of ships you aren’t using as it stops someone just owning every ship in the game; I think that possibility would be dull anyway so having to run a fleet that is productive and choose what is most effective for your gameplay style is a great idea. I intend to run a Polaris with an RSI Scorpius Antares in the hangar. Lots of choices here but I want something I can do some decent fighter combat in but can also trap other ships for the Polaris to catch up with and board/detain/close in for the kill. Would use the Cutty Blue but it clashes with the RSI style 😎

34:53 This is exactly the idea I've had in my head pretty much since the Polaris was first announced. I would imagine getting scans of Vanduul space or other fringe systems would be really valuable, and that's one non-combat role something like the Polaris would be perfect for, Sure it doesn't have the dedicated scanning suite the Carrack has but it has a Capital class radar. I feel a lot of people realize not even the Idris has a radar that big, and you could run it on passive mode getting ship movement data and a lot of other things with the Terrapin used for triangulation. Even if a Vanduul sub-capital shows up you can fire off a few torpedoes and run before reinforcements show up. You could even "hot bunk" a few small ships if they have beds like the Terrapin and just land to refuel and swap crews.

Avenger Warlock does the same as the Zeus EMP. For medical ships, we need CIG to start delivering them - however they need to get to the next level of medical gameplay first, as they will need to rework medical ships and medical bays repeatedly if they have not designed to the gameplay. We already have basic issues with medical tier zero, such as female avatar struggling to read the screen in the Carrack to order healing, and the "medic" screen being in the room on the wall, rather than in the medic's office facing the patient through the glass. And the medical supplies are all decorations. CIG needs to nail down where they are going with medical, and as things stand there simply won't be any reason to use an Apollo, Galaxy medical, or Hope rather than just using the medical in a Carrack or in the future Polaris. They need to deepen the gameplay to address that, but without getting the gameplay in they will inevitably need reworks, especially as crafting medications was always meant to be a thing (see Endeavor modules).

It's funny, because the use case that Farrister kind of jokes about with the Polaris is kind of my main use case. Specifically I see it as a defensible mobile base, and a platform to operate smaller ships and vehicles out of that will make attackers think twice because of it's torpedoes. And my main use case for the Apollo is as a wicked ground mission platform, lol! I do think all of the Zeus variants are compelling, with the upsized components on the MR making it something of a sleeper hit that won't show it's value till scanning rework and larger systems come in. Great show guys, love talking ships!

Great chat as always. Shame Farrister didn't have his camera on as was looking forward to the moustache :) Cannot say I disagree with anything said. This is the issue with the Redeemer as well as actually better to have 5 fighters than 1 Redeemer. @@Dorm_ I think I've heard someone say this before. I wonder why they'd remove the respawn ability of it? The ship is a long range exploration ship meant for a crew to stay out for very long periods of time and find new things or explore areas more without having to come back often. So having the ability to respawn at it makes a lot of sense. If it loses it's respawn ability then it's just a giant cargo ship until they add drones and different modules

I would say regarding the comments about ships being solo-able... that all ships can be solo'd but the kicker is... being the solo crew you will struggle to get components repaired, weapons managed and turrets manned.... 1 player can fly them, but you will definitely need a crew to ensure it reaches the full potential and not get destroyed cos you cannot keep up the Raptor was supposed to be RSI, and if the design aesthetics are to go by it screams RSI, the Pulse is a hover bike from Mirai Ursa Medical I've been looking forward to something like that more than most of the ships coming out.... though would also like for more variants of the Nova chassis.... for example APC - minus the big tank turret, but keep a smaller anti infantry remote turret AA - replace the tank turret with a large MLRS or similar turret to the Ballista or have it capable of quad size 4 AA guns AFV - smaller sized tank turret with an auto cannon instead of the main tank gun Nova Medical - replaces all weapons, and has a search light, maybe a winch or tractor beam.... and 2 med beds for tier 3, and some drop seats a single weapon on the searchlight Nova SRV - has no weapons just crane or tractor beam... though a crane would be quite useful for it to allow it to shift wrecks from mission areas and landing locations

The difference in ship class between Idris and Polaris, is that the Idris is a Frigate class and the Polaris is a Corvette class. Generally, a Corvette is smaller than a Frigate and fewer weapons. A Frigate is not quite a capital ship but a sub-capital class, because it is in between medium size and capital size. So an Idris should win against a Polaris. Then there is the Javelin which is a Destroyer class, and it is the first capital size ship in the game. The Bengal is a Cruiser class, which is bigger and has more firepower than a Destroyer. The next class after a Cruiser would be either a Battlecruiser, Battleship, or a Carrier (in most video games).

I think when it comes down to a closer finished game, capital ships will have captain's chairs or something with a menu of choices and orders to be made to the ship as a whole. Most likely filled with ai in the end. Player's will pay for crew based off rep and crew will determine how your ship preforms.

considering how blades will work in future with computers, and how they can interact with remote turrets. cig already said they want to down size the ship crew size for most ships. and that will down size crew even more. then there is also crew ai that will come where you could hire a supply sergeant per say, an engineer, then you have someone who works on power regulations and save on loading vs local hanger loading costs. but that is all down the pipeline. sorry farrister, but where the javalin was expected to have a crew of 120 people. it is now looking more like 20 people at the end of that pipeline. also yes eventually when they add diseases and other things into the medical system, for critical systems like the hospital beds. only they can cure extreme elemental injury as such. meanwhile the apollo has 2s3 and 3s2 beds, the S2 beds already work as respawns and would be the first ship with a S2 medical bed. the next will be the galaxy with its medical module having 4s1, 2s2 and 1s3. but after personal+industrial hangers, + bounty 2.0 with the added hanger wings, there will be accessible medical wings and not just medical carts. when the medical wings get added is when we will get the medical update from 3.5 to 3.8. not when we get the galaxy nor apollo. where 3.23 with server mesh and improved relay and personalized hangers is a step forward to medical 3.8. also farrister made a good point. it would be nice to see white box gray box ect with transitional updates. where with 3.23 hurston and microtech industiral zones, granted archcorp needs an entire planet rework for all the massive number of industrial zones that is suppose to be there by lore and not because how they made the planet. the entire planet needs a rework. but with having these industiral zones, it wouldnt be hard to copy the shells and make industrial dry docks out of them presenting an IRL project development level into the pu, so players could always go to and look around to see the progress of their desired ships ect. much like how crusader industries always has their show room floor. the industrial dry docks could be like an RnD center for building ships. as that is lore approperiate as well that they there is a whole lot of them and they should be in game as well. as for when is the polaris due for release. they said on ship dev block may 30th 2023 that things were coming along well. and that is when they presented the new manufacture tree type focus with tech to the left with crusader, drake to the right being industiral, misc being to the bottom being comercial, and rsi and aegis dynamics at the top for military purpose. as they said then not at the begining of Q4 23, but by the end of for sure. so we missed update 3.21 may 30th 23. despite them saying all 3.18 bugs were fixed. then bounty 2.0 was suppose to come out in october with new disrupter weapons and that never happened. the polaris is now 4 months late, we were also suppose to get ground fog, new storms, rivers, interactive water and swimming + new aero 3.5 by end of q1. and we only got half of that. then we were suppose to get industrial hangers and personal hangers with new inventory and maps by end of Q1 march 23. where we should be closer to 3.4 now and not still waiting for 3.23 with many overlooked and past things delayed. as its now april and Q1 2024 is past. meanwhile the server meshing timeline was end of Q2 2024 which is end of june. aka military week. as the polaris was expected to be done already, and we should be getting the new miari beserker/guardian as different groups been naming it then along with the apollo, and galaxy near finish but in the military week walk threw with polaris things ported over to galaxy and perseus. and because of the speed with the shixan and the fury, it was believed by many that the zuse mk2 could be done in this military week timeline also. but when it released with the spotlight during citizen con they said Q1 25 for that. so i hope that does not mean we have to wait for it all till Q1 25 when beta 1.0 goes live. as i believe the polaris is futher along then leading to believe. and not releasing because of meshing #1, #2 the docking arm has been messed up, #3 there is no capital class game play loop or balance in game. as it would make better sense to release the first capital class combat ship, along with the first capital class killer ship, aka the perseus. so the fact the polaris hasnt been released yet, makes sense to me as i could see the polaris being held till the perseus is finished so there is game play combat loop ballance. then betwen the polaris, the perseus, and the ecplise... its kinda like rock papper sizzors. or more correctly, missile storm, the rock, and the glass cannon. when whenever bounty 2.0 happens with new hull/component hp vs mass hp + ballistic weapons can load versatile ammo types then the loop expands and tinny snubs like merlin and fury become very useful. as for upcoming mastermodes. i dont like that you cant jump or fly in combat at the same time if you have the pooled energy and resources for shields ect. especially in a large/cap ship. where the only thing that seems useful is these updates of ranges for all weapons becoming gimbled to match size of slot for simplifications. as it was super annoying on the constellations to run 2 fixed S5 and then 2 gimbled S4 guns as piolet. as it will be very nice to have that S5 gun range and all be gimbled. making the 1 S+ tier ship, even better. which says wonders for the galaxy. with its 6s6 gimbled guns all on remote turrets. which means down the line with computers and blade slots, eventually you can set all the guns to auto fire and auto targeting on the galaxy with 6S6 guns for a 5800m range. being wonderful for a refinery to take a prospector out farm up ore, protected by the galaxy, drop off in the galaxy, refine in the galaxy, and gather more while it refines with the automated protections in the areas. but like i said, that is down the pipe line. and considering the blade teams were assigned to ai, ai pathing, ai crew, and ai passenger missions. one can safely assume drones for doing land claims, and blades for computers is very very far down the pipe. as if the timeline to release is oct 2025... i suspect blades wont be around till nov 2026 when the MSR gets the crusader overhaul timeline for its final AAA * * * * * passover. then ship hacking will probably become an element of play also, shutting off life support systems ect with the MSR and Hareld. so 2.5 years till the PU will get good or even remotely interesting... get it REMOTELY, the pun being because the remote turrets and blades! as my friend, he said hes tired of starcitizen already doing the same bit of nothing over and over again. explicitly saying he doesnt want to play again till there is more loops, quests and actual mmo integrations.

This isn't my thought but something I read on reddit post about this and it makes sense to me, it is around the same size (also similar to a 300i), so to have another ship from RSI in this size range doesn't make sense to me and combined with the fact that an Aurora gold pass would have to include components, cargo, bed, cockpit area it makes sense to make something like the F7 Mk II and have an Aurora mk II and just straight up replace the older model (also bringing it into the current RSI design language).

Polaris, last told, was LOD0 Exterior and nearing Greybox Gate Interior. That's pretty damned close to finished, however, probably not in time for Invictus. They could hold it for IAE, but that seems a bit silly. I think we may see it as a summer release with the Galaxy following far more quickly than we may anticipate.

In the C2, one of the important things to keep in mind is that there's more than 600 SCU of cargo to load. The other person is there to help move boxes, at the very least.

The only reasons a group would be “annoyed” about being boarded by the legionnaire is if either they do know what this game is about but just didn’t prepare for the circumstance and didn’t train for it. Or they just simply didn’t do their research about what this game is about and treat it like a screenshot/pretty ship simulator and not a real multiplayer game with the potential for PVP

CIG has already confirmed and reinforced several times over the last few years that ALL ships can TECHNICALLY be "solo" flown. But what would you do by flying around in a jav? Nothing. It would be useless and at best a huge fuel sink with a lot of armor. Absolutely NEED a crew if you actually want to be productive in a ship that large. A small/solo "large" ship would be better suited to something like the Polaris. Still a big sitting duck without turret gunners, but a lot less risky than a solo javelin. Also I think Farrister is over assuming how rarely caps will be used. They will be frequent usage for any org that is larger than 20 players. Constantly used. Pretty much anytime they want to do org combat it will be used. Also the polaris requires all the same tech that any other cap basically needs. Engineering will be in the polaris (it may not be enabled if other ships dont have it yet, but it will be developed for it in its first round for sure).

Man. So many ships I just love the idea of and design of. Until we have a real component system and a populated world full of features we wont know the true value. Like what is data running? I basically go off of coolness factor (which is subjective of course). Love the anvil fighters, love the aegis bombers. Tali is my fav ship design. Just love the space submarine vibe it has going on. Love the MSR... but what is that thing suppose to do really? The idea of a lot of this stuff is so very cool. Always keeping my hype in check though. Wont know how it all settles until we have all the peices together.

Last year felt like there werent a lot of ships because so many dont get used. Santok is a ship to get yengtus off The fury was a goofy thing to play around with, but its most useful ship, the LX, isnt great in PU due to servers dropping checkpoints. Srv is a stepping stone to getting a reclaimer for real money Lynx, x1, and antares are asop clutter The syulen is cool until you get tired of landing it The vulture, spirit, and f8 are the only ships you really see commonly used Ive had fun doing med rescues with my fury lx carried in my C1 for lols though

Regarding the enjoyable aspects of Star Citizen, opinions vary greatly. Although some improvements were noted post-3.18, my experience has been different. I took a break at version 3.18 due to ongoing bugs and instability, and decided to return at 3.19, staying through to 3.21. Despite the game’s attempts at stability, the repetitive nature of content led me to step back, only participating in organizational events for engagement. I’ve decided to withhold my return until at least version 3.24, given my extensive history with the game since 2013. The release of unstable patches to the Persistent Universe (PU) remains a primary concern for me. It’s my belief that the PU should receive the most polished version of any patch, yet this rarely seems to be the case. Issues such as server instability, random crashes, and unnoted changes within the PU have underscored a need for a prioritization of quality and stability, a need that seems unmet even with the introduction of a quality of life coordinator in version 3.19. I argue for the PU to serve as the forefront of stable, thoroughly tested updates rather than the patchy, often rushed releases that seem to orbit marketing events. Testing should be relegated to the PTU and similar environments. As a dedicated supporter through both monthly subscriptions and numerous ship purchases, I see immense potential in this project. However, there’s a pressing need for more structured patch delivery and stability improvements, as well as the introduction of new, engaging content, with a particular emphasis on exploration. Multiplayer functionality has significantly lagged, with many ships experiencing prolonged issues. Despite challenges like server meshing and pandemic-related delays, the core of Star Citizen is its community and collaborative experiences, areas in which the current offerings fall short. Organizational initiatives often provide more multiplayer content than the official channels, highlighting a glaring oversight in support and development. The absence of robust in-game organizational tools and meaningful group activities further points to a lack of attention to community engagement and cohesion.

MSR needs a rework and will be the perfect ship. If it were me I would cut the fat of the tunnels to make it lighter then slave the bottom turret to the pilot if they don’t have someone to use it. Also make the rec room and habitation all part of the main bridge with an elevator. Put the scanning and data storage in the side rooms.

While i certainly don't believe that any capital ship should be solo-able, they do need to bring the manning requirements to something more realistic. It's hard enough to get less than 10 friends together, in the same place, for the same time, for the same amount of play time. CIG will need a hellacious matchmaking system to be able to fill these things and even then you're constantly open to sabotage and espionage if you're not crewed by only trustworthy members of a huge org Also: as for the polaris vs idris fight style discussion, don't forget that there are multiple ways to "kill" a target like that. Mobility, crew, outright destruction, etc. are all viable methods and apply across the board. Any lucky hit could disable/"kill", making quite the even match

Think of the zeus series as the spirit series if it didn't waste so much space. The zeus CL is roughly the same size as the C1, but because it is much better optimized it has the double of cargo. The zeus es will be a very good daily driver imo (exploration feature + as much cargo as an andromeda), and the zeus mr will probably become on of my fav ship for group pvp (as long as they keep their word and let the pilot seat control the emp/qed). As for the retaliator, I always loved its look but honestly it has been designed very poorly. Currently it does work well as a armored/heavy bomber thanks to the 4xS9, but it's not a good gunship and I don't see the point of the other modules. The cargo bay won't hold much (and why would you need cargo on it anyway), and the armory could have its use but I doubt it would be better than a dedicated dropship. The redeemer / hammerhead currently outclass the base retaliator on all points as gunships, and any dropship would always be better than the retaliator just because of their better speed and mobility.

There are enough ships that I really don't care about ships anymore. I am more interested in 800 player servers, meshing, 4/0 stuff, Squadron 42, leaks, events, etc. The only ships I really want are the capital ships, Merchantman, Orion, the hospital ship and the repair ship. That's like 6 ships and they're for gameplay reasons.

I hope that the current hull design for the entire Connie series gets a major upgrade to the design language of the Apollo. My biggest beef with the Connie design is the open/empty tube design.... you have the primary crew entrance / lift... in the center of the floor... with the bunks and "galley" all within the same room as the bridge, which is just weird to me. I understand that this is one of the very first designs that CIG did, and they've learned a lot since then. I just hope there is a major update based on the evolution that is now the Apollo. Call it a Constellation Mk II. I would like to swap my Freelancer Max to a Zeus CL... BUT the major problem I see is the turret is on the ventral instead of the dorsal on the Zeus. Why in the name of the mighty Roberts is the turret on the belly? How can you defend yourself going into a landing, lifting off of a planet, or on the deck? Especially in not-so-friendly areas like Pyro. To me it's just as easy placing the turret on top instead of the belly. I have the same gripe for the Hercules series. You can't defend yourself from above, and most of the time, that is where the threat when it comes to a cargo ship. Top turret should be able to fire anywhere in the entire upper hemisphere of the ship, including behind, similar to a Cutty Black. But having an extra 8 SCU cargo over the FLMAX might not be worth it if you can't defend yourself from above. I would jump on the Zeus right away if only the turret was on top.

Pulling all of this out of my ass but: MPUV-1T is the Squadron 42 version with tractor beam, meant to help load ships with crates, like the Hull C commercial. Mirai Pulse is the gravlev bike. Guardian was the 'leaked' name for the Mirai heavy fighter. The 'clever girl' twitter teaser is a low traction/cushion wheel, with ARGO orange-red pieces on top and on the supposed hub, rearlights above the 'fender', a possible suspension arm holding it from the inside and another arm holding the hubcap from the outside, as a safety cover. RAPTOR could just be a stupid acronym like RAFT for an industrial ground vehicle for salvage, mining, box carrying or even towing. I think it's going to be some kind of forklift vehicle meant for extracting boxes from Dist. Centers or the Hangars.

Polaris is a corvette 1st response in a conflict that can go wide. It's strength lays in one of best radar. It's a boatload of capital size missiles, but...., in no way is it comparable to the hammerhead. Polaris should be capable to defend itself from short number of enemy small ships. But Polaris us old, old, old concept. The 1 landing pad will do absolutely next to nothing in keeping the ship safe or giving it an edge. Buy again, I count on those polaris radars to understand what's going on before getting in area of conflict(s).
