I've been listening to you guys for a few years now and you really grew as a band. The message is still strong, inspiring and very "a propos" with the rise of anxiety and depression across the world. But you also now a very unique sounding music and Jake really grew as a singer, going from being a good vocalist to being a great one, showing greater range and more confidence. I've been going through a rough patch lately, trying to get my life back together since October of last year, having been homeless for 10 days back then, and dealing with mental health court, getting back into therapy, back on medications, slowly repairing my relationship with my mother, and just overall dealing with a lot of other stuff, and your songs have continued to give me the strength to carry on as they help me feel seen! This song really speaks to me. I don't intend on killing myself (and never have) because I know how much pain that would cause those who care about me. But sometimes it does feel like this life has nothing to offer me but pain, suffering, regret, and the overwhelming anger I feel at others who make my life harder than it already is. Sometimes I have wished I would die in my sleep. Sometimes I just want to go be with Jesus. But this song reminds me that things change. I've been in dark places before and come out of them stronger. Although I see nothing but demons now, of if I soldier through it, and especially if I work hard towards getting the kind of life that I want, I know things will change. The people in my life who were a snare and lead me into suffering and sin will one day be nothing but a bad dream. My crappy everything will be a memory. I don't have to die to find happiness. I just have to endure and work towards finding my way out of this hell hole I'm in. I interpret "afterlife" here both literally and metaphorically. Metaphorically it can be referring to the other side of a dark season of one's life. Literally it refers to the Heaven we want to go to escape this wretched world. The song is basically saying you don't have to die to escape your suffering. Things change.
