for Richard Carlson; i am wondering whether when a large meteorite hits earth if the seismic waves going through Earth causes new faults or breaks the tectonic plates on the opposite side of Earth? P waves travel through, so why shouldn't they be strong enough to break crust?

Page 84 By studying records of shock waves created by earthquake, Andrija Mohorovocic (pronounced moh hoh ROH vuh chich) discovered in 1909 that there is a distinct "acoustic boundary" between the crust and mantle of the earth.
