The WRC is the FIA World Rally Championship, a tough motorsport using rally cars on real roads around the world. Watch the best rally drivers battle on gravel and asphalt roads with mud, rain, dust, ice and heat! Watch high speed action as the rally drivers power slide and drift round narrow corners, go flat out over a big jump or through a watersplash, handbrake turn round a hairpin, survive a big moment, or have a massive crash! Rally requires maximum attack and careful tactics to become world rally champion.
Each rally has timed sections called special stages, on closed roads. Drivers complete these stages as quickly as possible. A co-driver reads pace notes that explain the hazards ahead. Rally drivers use the same rally car to travel to each stage on public roads, following normal traffic regulations. The crew which completes all the stages in the shortest time is the rally winner. Championship points are won using the same scoring system as Formula 1. The championship is administered by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body.
Over 30 countries have hosted WRC rallies. Rally Monte Carlo, Rally Argentina, Rally Finland, Rally Portugal, Tour de Corse on Corsica, France, Rally Sardegna on Sardinia, Italy, Safari Rally in Kenya, Acropolis Rally in Greece, Rally New Zealand, Rally Australia, Rally Japan, Rally GB, Rally Catalunya, Rallye Deutschland, Rally Mexico and many more.
Some of the world's greatest drivers have won the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, like Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz, Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist, Petter Solberg, Ott Tänak. The list of world rally champions includes many Finnish rally drivers like Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, Ari Vatanen, Marcus Grönholm, Hannu Mikkola. French drivers have had success with Sébastien Ogier, and 9 times world champion Sébastien Loeb. Famous drivers from other motorsports have come to try rally driving like Ken Block from Rallycross, and Robert Kubica and Kimi Räikkönen from F1.
Car companies compete for the prestigious FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers awarded to the most successful WRC constructor. Winners include Citroen, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Peugeot. Ford have had success with the Ford Escort, Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta when the M-Sport team won in 2017.
The 1980's featured the iconic Group B rally cars like the Lancia 037 and Delta S4, Peugeot 205 T16, MG Metro 6R4, Ford RS200 and Audi Quattro.
Japan dominated the 1990s with the Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza, and Toyota Celica and Toyota Corolla. Toyota returned to the WRC in 2017 with the Toyota Yaris WRC, winning in 2018. The 2019 championship was won by Hyundai with the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. Find out about the latest winners and champions at www.wrc.com

It's so silly for them to leave. Like five years old kids, who say "i don't wanna play anymore" when they don't have the luck anymore they had before. Is this the race spirit we should learn? To leave when we have worse chances? Then all races should only stand of one person who would win, and the rest is at home, saying "i chose not to play". I'm just not French enough to understand it.

It´s all about business, same happens at Formula 1 as well, like Toyota, BMW and Jaguar left because they were not winning. Red bull, Mercedes and even Haas have also said that if the team is not successful they leave. VW and Mini did same at WRC. You know there is no point to waste money to a sport if you don´t succeed.

Citroen it's only beginning of THE END of wrc, as in 2021 they need to be equipped with a hybrid technology not only it will be in favour of Toyota but just to expensive and not reliable enough. WRC is becoming next F1 to much money and to complicated. Fans want noise and competing on stage not in factory

The noise is not going anywhere. The hybrid system is there only for going from one stage to another but the stages themselves are driven with fuel only. And it will not favour only toyota. Everyone has a chance on making the best system. Besides they will all drive with the excact same system in every car for the first few years. Dont hate on hybrid just because its hybrid, it is the future technology that the manufacturers want to see in the sport.
@mikeuk8486
@mikeuk8486 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheLeewi98 I think that you have wrong information or you running company selling hybrids... 1)It was FIA who pusch those rules not car companies 2) it will be in favour of Toyota as they doing hybrids systems for last 15 years 3) before ogier went citroen already made decision to leave in 2021 becouse of hybrid systems which of course will cost a lot of money 💷 4) I don't hate hybrids just no chance that I can afford one 5) my biggest concern about hybrid are you sure that government will not change mind in 10 years and say ohh we have millions of batteries which are toxic what to do with them... 6) is it really that important to have them fitted in 10cars in championship?
@TheLeewi98
@TheLeewi98 4 жыл бұрын
@@mikeuk8486 www.autosport.com/wrc/news/141255/fia-pushing-on-with-hybrid-wrc-rules-for-2022 Here is an article on Autosport that talks about the upcoming hybrid systems. M-sports Rich Millener said himself "There will be some form of hybrid in 2022, that's a must. It's the only way some manufacturers will stay in the sport and its the only way for us to attract new manufacturers". So yes FIA wanted hybrid systems in the cars but no teams were not against it. Only Citroen gave up after these regulation were revealed. Toyota has done hybrid systems for over 20 years but they will have no advantage for the first few years when every manufacturer will use the same hybrid technology. After 2024 when teams can develop their own systems we will see who actually comes out on top. Hyundai makes a lot of hybrid cars as well so it might be them or it might be a new manufacturer. The battery technology is getting better all the time and even though I'm a bit sceptic of how the batteries are made I know for a fact that battery recycle technology is getting better all the time and at the moment they can recycle them quite well. To have hybrid technology in WRC is important for the manufacturers since the want to show to people what they can do with their technology and then sell more cars. Big manufacturers are on WRC just to promote their own products and that is a fact.

It's all about money. Citroën is not leaving because they want, they leave because they have no good drivers and they seem not to be making all the money the want. Citroën had awesome years in rallying, but now other manufacturers are better. I'm not sad to see them leave, because now we are going to see more variety and hopefully more competitive rallies. And they should probably come stronger in the future
