Many thanks for taking the trouble to make and upload the video. I've just done my Xsara 2.0HDI in 30 minutes start to finish thanks to your video. I changed the board that the resistors sit on. I bought it on Ebay, apparently German made for £35 delivered, not as cheap as some but at least it worked first time. Thanks again. Regards Trevor.

Installation under an hour thanks to your video! Got mine from ebay for £14 for my model (Xsara 2.0 HDi diesel) and worked fine. I already had a bypass with a switch there (was on all the time otherwise, and if it blows again it's an extra backup), but now I can actually adjust it :)

While you're under the dash, removing the fan, take the pollen filter out check it's not blocked up. If it is, replace it. That's probably why the resistor failed in the first place.

Wish I'd looked at this before I took mine out (Expert van). I unclipped the whole bottom of the cowling before realising it dropped down on 3 screws. This involves taking way took much of your dashboard out.

The Transistors vary the speed and the "Relay" works on maximum power, thus bypassing the regulator circuit. You could have bought 2N3055 and 2N3054 works too

Hi, do you mean on the car fuseboard? If so, your car manual should have a diagram with the fuse layouts. Let me know if this has helped you.

Hi, I can't be sure but it sounds as though your motor has gone completely. You may be best getting a replacement motor from a scrap dealer. However, I can't be sure what exactly is wrong with your heater - the blower resister failing causes the motor to run on full power. sorry I couldn't be of any further help.

Don't buy the complete heater resistor on Ebay. These are made with the MJ11016 transistor (NPN), you need one with MJ11015 (PNP). These with PNP transistor are not for sale on Ebay, so you will have to solder and replace them yourself.

Seriously? I bought the whole piece with what looks like MJ11016 parts but haven't attempted the repair yet - is it worth trying it first or are you 100% sure it won't comply? If so, I'll order the 015 ones now!

Murtaza Hameed No, it doesn't work 100% sure. MJ11016 is NPN transistor. I tried it and it didn't work. So I ordered 2 MJ11015 PNP transistors and soldered them on the original one and now it works (but the blower seem to blow less hard than the original one). I have never seen an original heater resistor with NPN transistors. Don't forget to put thermal grease on it (like on the old ones). The uploader of this video bought 2 resistors on Ebay and both did not work, they are not faulty, just the wrong transistors on it.

dai_hard Ok so my MJ11015 transistors have arrived but this will my first attempt at soldering/desoldering anything! When you say put thermal grease on it, do you mean the sort they use for CPU's and the like? Also...how/where/when do I apply it? I looked for videos but can't seem to find any that aren't computer-related. Would appreciate any help!

Murtaza Hameed Yes the same as on your CPU, white or even better the silver one. If you remove the old MJ11015, you will see they have applied thermal grease on it (on the contact surface between transistor and heatsink for better thermal conduction). Clean the surface of the heatsink and put new thermal grease on the new ones. Too much is not good, just a thin layer. (try googling images on "thermal grease on transistor"). You will also have to drill the rivets out. Use a metal just a bit bigger than the hole like 3 or 4mm i think. You don't need to drill through the rivets, just the upper side so you can remove them. Just search some videos how to desolder and drill rivets out. Don't forget to mount the transistors the same direction as the old ones (when you can horizontally read the letters).

REMOVE THE LABEL WITH THE BAR CODE ON THE BACK OF THE MOTOR THIS WILL REVEAL THE SECOND SCREW IT HAS 3 SCREW HOLES BUT ONLY 2 ARE USED UNDO BOTH SCREWS AND YOU CAN PULL THE MOTOR FROM THE CASING TO ACCESSS YOU TRANSISTORS, sorry to shout hope this helps!!!

You didn't buy faulty ones, you bought the *wrong* kind of resistors. You need MJ11015 (PNP) instead of MJ11016 (PNP) ones.

Willem, i tend to agree with you as the new module ( I bought on-line, from The UK) MJ11016 does not work either! Your observation intrigues me that I should also install MJ11015(PNP)...what is your reference source? Thanks for your contribution to helping us . P.S. Citroen dealer in Queensland Australia is asking $400+ for a new module. The on-line source charged $25.00 and delivered in 2 weeks!

I read it online, people made this exact mistake before. Sucks too because a whole MJ11016 unit would only cost $10 and 2x MJ11015 resistors are $8 and I have to install them too.

I'm having the similar problem (the wind blower is on max, and can't be turned down on the intensity wheel), so does buying the whole module even with MJ11016 or some other transistor not work or just replacing transistors to the old module is not good? I'd appreciate the answer asap, because I've found a whole module on ebay one with MJ11016 and one without identation?

Blimey they are only a fiver in our scrap yards they won't guarrentee them because they know most of them are crap, brushes are the main problem they run all the time in most peoples cars they just like the air flow, I use the cheap brushes that come with cheaper type drills from toolstation file them to size and fit them then put the fan unit back, it runs like new.

hmm i need to put dislike because no valuable info here,resistor units probably are ok i have same problem, on xantia 2000 i taked working fan from xantia 1995 and its didnt work too ,so i think problem is somwhere else,maybe they changet something in years,maybe control voltage is diferent to resistor board! so im 99% sure your 2 resistor boards was working well just they was not for your car! :)
