love pigeon peas.. fast growers, good shade plants for young trees because they are a Nitrogen fixer. lasts about 2 years, pretty yellow flowers, bees love them, and delicious.

Hurricane Ian blew thick layers of oak leaves all over my yard and I'm leaving it as mulch. It actually controls weeds and keeps moisture content in the soil. And amazingly somehow or other I am getting some common earthworms in the soil. I know worms love leaves so maybe that is the reason they've suddenly appeared.

Aminopyralid is the name of the broad leaf herbicide, I believe one of the commercial names is Grazon. I got hit with a bad batch of compost and grew corn to get rid of it. Thanks for all the great content, we enjoy your channel

Thank you for explaining Citrus greetings so very well without all the doom and gloom. As for the Everglades seeds, I just wanted to also add that it's winter. Today's the shortest day of the year and things are just taking so much longer anyhow. I bet by February those seeds are completely germinated.

I have thoroughly enjoyed your vlogmas. You're so knowledgeable and still relatable. Feel like we could sit with some coffee or tea and talk gardening for hours. If you haven't considered it yet, you should definitely make a Q&A a regular feature. At least once a month would be awesome. Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday.

Oh, I also have a question about whether or not Drake Elm trees are invasive? They are beautiful in the summer and after seeing a very old tree in the yard at a garage sale we fell in love with it. We (my sisters, my mother and i) all went to the nursery and each bought one. We at that time all lived about 2 miles from each other. We each planted our trees in our front yard. By about 10 years later, although the trees were beautiful, the roots were horrible and started breaking up our driveways, and I realized that all my neighbors started having these "trees" growing wild all throughout the neighborhood. They ended up being such a messy pain in the butt (although still beautiful in summer), all three of us had our trees cut down. Mine was cut down about 10 years ago. I actually dug up my front yard and tried to get every root I could find. I used chain saw, zawsaw,.... still to this day, I have these coming up all over my yard. Anyways, saying all that, are these on the bad list in Florida? If not, they should be. 👹 Thanks

I planted pigeon peas in the summer so they didn't get to maturity to produce this year, but wow they are a cool plant! Nitrogen fixer!

I add everything to my compost. I've noticed that normal kitchen scraps disappear in a week and larger things or denser takes a bit longer.

The Grazon problem has made me very leery about getting wood chips or compost from an outside source. Of course, my front yard which is basically wood chips and crushed shells is getting to be a jungle because I can't decide which yard care company to call because I don't want to have to get into a debate with them about using an herbicide. My yard man (had him and his crew since 2013) moved to northern Florida about a year ago. He did not use environmentally unsafe chemicals. Probably should have put in a front yard garden when I had it landscaped several years ago. But didn't, so now living with choice. I've got to do something soon as my neighbors are probably getting very antsy. Have enjoyed your Vlogmas vlogs...thank you again for doing this AND a Happy Vlogmas to you 🎄🎄🎄🤩🤩🤩

I too, want those rose hips from rosa rugosa which is supposed to have the biggest, best ones. It’s my understanding that any rose hips are the edible and useful, they just are smaller on other varieties. I planted rosa rugosa from seed about a year ago. I’m told it can’t grow well in Florida because it gets too hot during our summers.. so.. I’m taking the challenge and I planted it under a custard apple tree for shade.. so far so good, but it’s still only a baby. 10 inches tall probably. Healthy though!

I've been trying to remove Mexican petunias from my yard since we bought our house in 1982. 40+ years. Somehow I ended up with some of the "blue" flowers turning pink. The older couple that we bought our home from always called them "blue bells" , but yeah, I'm now too old to get down and try to pull those little sucker's up, I've just learned to live with them and have them knocked down with a weed eater in between the cracks in the concrete walkways and driveway. Uurrgg. 🤪

I’m from Florida. Maybe the reason why it took so long to hit Florida is because when you went to the orange fields they all had southern live oaks growing near them. That’s interesting. I never knew that

I may have misunderstood on the squash question, but it sounded to me as if her pumpkins just weren’t getting pollinated. The plant will sort of plump up the immature fruit at the base of the female flower, and then the fruit will turn brownish and drop off if it hasn’t been pollinated by a pollinator that visited the male flower. This can be done by hand until more pollinators can be attracted if this is the problem.

I've been loving this series, I'm sure it's been a lot of work for you but it's totally appreciated. I have a question- what can I do about root knot nematodes? I've tried marigolds, neem max (a nematicide) and a tea made with dog fennel. For now I've moved my strawberries, onions & garlic into the bed because I read that they can grow with the RKNs. It's in my one & only bed and some of my containers. Any advice?

I bought mini roses at the grocery and planted them in my flower beds. They grew much larger and make normal sized rose blooms now. So far they seem to be growing great. I'm in Citrus County. They are shaded half the day. I always get INFJ when I take those tests. I do spend most of my time alone though 😅

I bought an acre of florida land with pines and oak and cleared a small space. Since “wild” citrus trees do better, I hope to plant a few in there and maybe ammend big holes with oak leaf mulch to see if it helps. Someone needs to fix this 🥲
