City Builders - Therapeutic Power Fantasies

Hello again people and today we are going to talk about city builders. Why?
Well its because I have been on a cities skylines binge for weeks now and I honestly have no idea. Occasionally I look through my installed games in my steam library and I test them to see if I should keep them on my computer. I had played CS for about 30 hours at the time I launched it again and as of writing this script I have over 160 hours. Which leads me to the same question. WHY? Why have I become so addicted, so enamored with this game? Why have I suddenly found myself learning about industrial logistics, and proper Road hierarchy. Why is that unique building off center by one row and why does it bother me so much?
We’ve been doing this for thousands of years with varying degrees of success. Not living in cities, I’m talking about problem solving. Humans have been solving problems for thousands of years. Approx. Over 50,000 years ago is the rough estimation where archaeologists place humans actually reaching sapience. This is marked by ancient stone tools that were crafted along with ancient drawings. If there is anything that still baffles me to this day is that the brains that we possess today are pretty much the same as they were 50,000+ years ago. The software has been receiving incremental updates over the years; but the hardware has stayed the same.

This topic also covers tycoon games: Either micromanage your park to make guests/animals happy or unleash insanity by letting out a fully grown T. rex or launching dozens of fully occupied roller coaster cars into the freeway

I personally really like all the symmetrical designs people come up with for their cities, and you really hit the nail on the head when it comes to it being satisfying to watch. It's like a massive puzzle, but you can choose the pieces you play with, if that makes sense.

I probably could have gone more in depth about the psychology of problems and problem solving; but I figured I would keep it short considering I don't think many of you care about city building games. I mean, it's true that I would enjoy a city building game where I could basically be either a benevolent god or a sadistic destructive god depending on my mood. Especially since destroying cities is one of my power fantasies. Do you have any good games like that to propose ? Right now I have an Android device, a PS4 and a XBOX, and I don't have money I can spend so it has to be a free game.

Hmmm. I'll be honest, It's difficult to find a quality city builder for free because they're so niche. If your looking for something Free, you could try Simcity Build it on mobile. Be warned its a EA game and they are notorious for There use of microtransactions on console games so I can only imagine how much they do on actual mobile games (It might make the game less fun). Never played it myself. As for games on Ps4 and Xbox City builders aren't that great on console mostly because they don't have mods support. If you ever do get some money to spend and a PC I would go for Simcity 4 or cities skylines 1. Simcity 4 is old so it can run on non gaming Pc's; but you might have compatibility issues for the same reason. (I couldn't get it to stop crashing.) Which is a shame because that games lets you do a lot of funny things to destroy your city like call in a robot dinosaur or an alien invasion. Thanks for watching
