If what you desire from rapid progress is just cosmetic updates of the station, then I would have to disagree with you. Train stations are built to last for centuries. Just look at the subway stations in London, Sydney, Paris and other global cities, they still look like the way they did 100 years ago. Subways aren't shopping malls. As long as they perfectly serve their function there's no need to waste resources on updating them. In fact you should be proud of these built-to-last MRT stations.

@Equarius260eoy someone I know has just been to Singapore and he told me that (he was told) this rule was introduced after a bomb attack was thwarted - the bomb was made safe. Of course people with ill-intent cannot be stopped from filming... they will just use covert methods, such as shirt button cameras. Technology is almost at a stage whereby prosthetic / false eyes can also include cameras. So, as ever its only the ordinary people who suffer.

@ddarrens92 I do not remember the exact times, as it is now 20 years since I was in Singapore. I avoided the rush hours. Possibly I filmed at underground stations during the hours of darkness, as it did not make much difference when underground! I might have filmed this when on my way back to the hotel after visiting Sentosa. Which means after 10pm. It was my aim to film trains and not (too many) people, as then the trains are not seen! Number of lines is not important. The fact that Singapore MRT covers the whole island is a sufficient proof of its efficiency. There's virtually nowhere in Singapore unreachable by MRT, especially when the new lines start to open next year. And oh, speaking of cosmetic updates, do you have any idea how filthy the subway in New York and London tube compared to sterile, air-conditioned MRT?

@nickelbatx Yes but the whole thing is orchestrated; people in power are afraid of ordinary people, especially those with cameras, as it empowers those who speak up for human rights and freedoms. Using the excuse of terrorism the USA has just passed a law which allows people (anyone) to be detained without trial indefinately. (NDAA, Dec 2011). The power mongers are desperate to introduce martial law - see the last 40 mins of the Project Camelot interview with Bob Wood to know why.
