And historically one of the major cities, at one point bigger than York and England’s second city. (It didn’t last, obviously).

Norwich is still one of the cosiest cities in Britain. I’ve lived out this way for nearly all my life and never found anywhere to equal it. With streets loosely laid out on the map like a wheel revolving around the Norman castle keep, it’s got plenty of character and a bit of something for everybody. You are never far from food and drink of just about any kind and you will NEVER struggle to find a pub, and in the centre it’s hard to walk more than 300-400 yards without being in sight of at least one venerable church. Love it.

I enjoyed Norwich ,I spent many weekends there while stationed at RAF Sculthorpe. Dancing with Jakie,Stella and Janet at the American Club on Lobster lane, darts at the Wildman on lobster lane, eating burgers at Wimpy's on PW road.I miss those days wandering around Norwich. I'll never forget you Janice Sayers. All you blokes, have a pint for me. Chico

@@JoseGarcia-bp6nm How long ago was this, the only Wimpy I remember was on Rampant Horse st in the City when I was a kid in the 80's. There is only one in the whole of Norfolk now, if it's still open, and that is in Kings Lynn.

Yes you are right the whole city centre is full of so called homeless, genuine or not they are a pain in the butt, you can’t sit down anywhere outside with out someone pestering you for money, I wouldn’t call Norwich affluent, more like skid row, the council wants to sort out this mess, what would you think if you were a tourist, the poverty and drabness in and around the city centre makes you feel depressed.

I think that Norwich is a fantastic city, with many highlights. My personal favourite being the gorgeous cathedral, made of beautiful french Caen stone, containing exquisite Romanesque interiors from 1096-1145. It has over 1000 painted medieval “bosses” situated on the ceiling vault - an unrivalled treasure! Of course Norwich contains much more. The 11th century castle for instance; a really unique Norman fortress! Norwich has also retained many historical buildings; that line charming narrow streets. Not forgetting an exceptionally well preserved medieval area - “Elm Hill.” The city contains over 30 medieval churches, and other non-religious medieval buildings such as the ”Guildhall”, “The Halls”, “The Great Hospital” (established 1249) and ”Dragon Hall.” There’s also pretty riverside walks, one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the country (established in the 11th century) and a Roman Catholic Cathedral (which is also worth a visit). There may be people that are homeless in the city, but this does not stop Norwich being a great place to visit - many cities in the UK/ rest of Europe have a homeless problem in one form or another.
