City of Riverside CA Garbage Trucks

Here are two trucks I found on a Saturday in Riverside. Apparently the city is so understaffed that they run 7-day work weeks and Burrtec has been hired as an emergency contractor to help. One of the drivers also told me they were considering leasing some side loaders, unsure if that will actually happen. Thanks to both drivers featured for letting me film and working extra long weeks to keep the trash moving.

Can’t wait till the city loses the contract. Literally anything else would be better. Probably Burrtec

Why do you say that? It wouldn’t be losing a contract so much as it would be a decision to outsource. If they can’t find the money to buy more equipment and hire more people, then they might not have a choice. I thought a good solution would be to move to a biweekly system like San Diego

Privatizing usually means higher rates for residents rather then city services which whatever money they get from billing goes right back to those services. From a standpoint, Riverside is in dire need of new guys but for a city's viewpoint it can be difficult to drive people into Solid Waste Collection departments since most don't want to work with trash or can't obtain CDL's. Riverside might need to study a rate increase if they can't obtain enough money for their department. Otherwise, they would have to privatize.
