If there was ever a band that didn’t need to lip-synch to sound good, it is Journey. It can only have been a directive from the producers, but you’d think, at least, that they would have pre-recorded the song live before the show and mimed to that, but doing it to the record is bizarre. Fantastic song, of course.👏👏👏

I agree with you whole heartedly and I wish this wasn't a synced version. But this particular song might be difficult for them (the harmonies in particular) since it seems like a seldomly played live song. I think I've only seen 2 live versions of it. Sad because it's a favorite of mine

@@ronoh55 Hey, and thanks for your comment. 😁 Indeed, re the complex harmonies, it’s a fair point, mate. However, that’s kind of what I meant about them pre-recording it “live” before the show and either miming to that, or maybe keep the backing vocals on tape and play semi-live to that. It was a technique many bands used in the 70s, I think. It’s less jarring than seeing a band like Journey play to the record. Anyway, always great to see the band. A lovely rest of the week to you. 👍👍🤞

This is the first time I’ve seen this video as of summer 2023. I’ve seen a lot of other Journey Midnight Special videos and I’ve seen Journey live maybe five times, I think with Perry - twice - Augery - once - and their latest singer once. At 0:38 it sounds like a flat to me which if so must be intended. It might be a mini-chromatic scale? I listened to it several times and that’s what my ear is hearing. But Journey was absolutely loaded with talent at this time. Their keyboard player - Rawley maybe? - left the band but he’s an excellent singer too although Jonathon Cain is really good too.
