@@Mr330d could be so many things but this knackered cv joint caused vibrations. If you can feel excessive side to side movement in the shaft then that could well be your issue. Other than that, imbalanced wheels, misshapen tyres, buckled wheels all usually give similar symptoms.

Top tip! When putting anything in any hole a bit of spit on end helps.

Yes, or smear with a bit of Vaseline or any general purpose grease. Helps to stop it causing any damage as to force it in.

On my driver’s side shaft, I have slight play in and out but not side to side, will that be the cv joint? When I turn the car on a roundabout I hear a knocking noise.

@@PieeaterComeonengland if you’re on Facebook, get in the bug groups and look for a guy called Ash Carter. He’ll sort you out a good used one. Much less hassle than changing the CV joint and a decent price.

I have not had a used drive shaft replaced in any of my cars. If I had a problem I replace the cv joint or the cv boot. There are companies that manufacture cv joints such as FAG, SKF, LOBRO, SPIDAN etc.

It is normal for these cars to have a bad droning sound past 30mph.. right? The sound directly corresponds to wheel speed, think its coming from the rear too. Also makes a silly spring/ball joint rolling noise when pulling off of sloped surfaces, i.e. driveway. Had new tyres on it in September I think the noise reduced but might of been placebo as it's definately back, if not worse! Love it to bits though, very fun wagon to drive about.. haha! good video

Could be a rear wheel bearing. They do that when the wire failing, but they aren’t quiet cars to start with.

I just did the same yesterday with a new drive shaft though and according to the workshop manual the steering rod must be disconnected not thise rubbers...

The track rod end instead of the drop link or instead of the bottom ball joint?

I hate taking drive shaft out. I once took a 2.0ts engine out of an Alfa Romeo GTV, rebuilt it and put it back in without taking the gearbox out just because I didn’t want to take the drive shafts out 😂

So if your shaft needs replacing the balls need to come off too ,, a tad extreme. but if thats how it has to be. I was always told that its the width thats important not the length , now your telling me its the other way round ,,, life is seldom simple.

The girth of the shaft is important for handling the torque, the length is important to reach its destination. I’m told that neither matter, until she’s mad at me, then I’m told that both in fact matter, and I possess neither 😂

Mate,after replacing the shafts,i got new ones,not refurbished ones... there's no play in them...side by side or up and down...is that normal?
