Before becoming premiere of Alberta, Danielle Smith was a lobbyist for Big Oil, trying to push through the "RStar" program which would relieve oil companies of their financial obligation of remediating abandoned oil wells by having taxpayers cover the $20 Billion cost. Fellow lobbyists backed her bid to replace incumbent Premiere Kenney as new leader of the UPC with the goal of getting the RStar program pushed through the legislature. UPC Finance Minister Travis Toews, who placed 2nd by 4%, called Smith delusioned, misinformed and cruel. Oh yeah, and Danielle Smith claimed smoking cigarettes can improve the health of smokers and that millions of lives have been lost due to anti-smoking initiatives. Alberta UCP introduced a bill to permit political parties to run in the province's municipal elections with unlimited funding from corporate donors to ensure Oil backed Conservatives are placed in charge of Edmonton and Calgary. As a fail-safe, the province could also fire any mayor or councillor and nullify any bylaw that they disagree with. You really picked a wiener, I mean, winner. --
