If anyone really wants to know you can Google him and find pictures of him anyway. It's not difficult. There's only a few city planners names Phil that lives in the locations he has mentioned living and working for so out of the few people's faces whom show up you can definitely wean it down based on other information if try been listening and paying attention. Thus whole thing had me curious so I Googled and pretty sure it one or three other. I might be wrong but I wasn't going to go crazy digging into things to confirm that I had the right Phil's photo. Etherway gave me a face to associate his voice to atleast. 😅 I liked the second mic best from my phone it sounded best with second one. His voice is extremely calming and helps me sleep at night. But nice having a idea of what people look like when hearing them to sleep too

Sad to hear the developments in your career path. I literally decided to change careers from education to planning. I begin in less than a month. It was your channel, your insight, and how you connected the game to reality that caused me to be interested in the field. Honestly, out of all the CS KZbinrs, the many that have come and gone, your content has been the most consistent. Despite new series and random Bluffside Crossing resurgences, I still get excited when I get notifications about new videos. I wish you well always in the future of this channel and your career!

Don't be! But I certainly have two take aways - 1) if you're happy, don't feel like you need to move up and 2) the grass isn't always greener. I should have probably accepted that my original job was a better fit for my personality, but I have no regrets about switching - I worked with some amazing people and made, what I believe to be, a positive impact. And truthfully, if I didn't have a pretty amazing fallback here where I get to chat about planning, entertain, and generally have a good time, I probably would have stayed and simply looked for a position that was a better fit for me. That said, stepping back for a time has given me a lot more time back and I think, in the long run, for my mental health, it's good to do one thing at a time. All of that said, at the end of the day, one bad fit doesn't mean that I have any less love for the field. I'm also excited to have the opportunity to pursuing other facades of planning, and ultimately share that journey with all of you. Congrats on your switch to planning! It's a fantastic field and I think you're going to love it!

Phil, you should give us the opportunity to vote for "elected officials" with different planning policies and objectives. Maybe each month or every other month we have an "election" where we can change the planning priority of the city. Maybe we have a very pro planning pro investment council one month, then another month we have a more conservationist council, then a public transport oriented one, then a private vehicle one, etc. You can change city policies to reflect that, and even cancel planned infrastructure and developments if we vote against it. Would add a really interesting dynamic and help bring the city to life, with us your viewers being the citizens of your city.

Your Mexico story reminds me of Fiji. As a child, maybe around 9 or 10, my family went to Fiji in an all inclusive package. It was great fun and everything that we wanted at that time, but even as a child I recognised that it was a polished version of what was really happening outside the walls. As an adult I was flying Sydney to San Francisco and had the opportunity to choose a route that allowed for an early landing in Fiji, exploring the area all day before I had to return in the evening for my second leg, and the difference was noticeable. I wouldn't have called it run down or depressing or anything, just slightly more unkempt and overgrown than the highly polished and sanitised resorts. I am personally glad that I have experienced both, I think it's beneficial to experience the lives of others as much as you can.

As an introvert myself, I totally understand your stance on your desired privacy. I feel so guilty now for having accidentally stumbled across videos with your face shown. On the subject of a face-reveal - I can never understand why people are so eager for it! It makes no difference to my enjoyment of your videos whether I know what you look like, or not. So the only reason for doing it would be to be recognised and get 'famous', which you clearly (and sensibly) don't want. So keep your privacy, enjoy being able to keep this separate from the rest of your life, and don't bow to any pressure to do otherwise😊
@TheUltimater72 Жыл бұрын
there is a thing with microphones called the proximity effect, basically the closer the sound source is to the microphone the more bass response the microphone has. you could keep the sm7b and just move it a little further away from your face to get less bass. but for the record, the bassy sound of your voice is part of why i enjoy your content so much. that being said, the re20 is smoother.
@CityPlannerPlays Жыл бұрын
My main issue with the proximity effect has been echo. I have been working, very, very hard to treat my office thought and making strides. I may back off a bit from the mic, but will mostly likely stick with the SM7B. It is funny how polarizing these two microphones are though, but I totally get it!

Actually, yet another thought: At some point, with mod support etc., I would like to see a city built up through history, starting in the 1800s or even earlier. We have already seen workshop assets that look like buildings from different historical periods. There are assets that can replace vehicles with horses or horse carts - you have used them in Nicolet bay, and while they looked kind of janky, they worked. There are oldfashioned trains, trams, trucks and cars, and so on. I think it would be really fun to watch a region grow from a small (maybe even medieval) town with surrounding villages, into a massive near-future city. It would also be interesting to see the challenge to find assets and mods to make it work. I live just outside a major city. The inner city itself is made up of a number of districts, as cities tend to be. I have learned that 3-400 years ago, those districts were separate communities and considered to be quite far out in the countryside. That's one of the things that inspired this idea. Another inspiration was your videos on recreating real cities using 100 year old city plans.

Phil, prioritize privacy for your mental well-being and that of your family. A face reveal will lead to fame and scrutiny. As a genealogical nerd, most midwesterners of German descent, specifically Prussia (which Brandenburg is a part of), moved to the US because of religious persecution in the early to mid 1800’s. The King of Prussia united the Calvinist and Lutheran churches and syncretized the worship practices. More traditional Lutherans objected to the merger but membership in the state church was more or less mandatory so they decided to emigrate. Brandenburg and the former Kingdom of Prussia as a whole is really close to Poland and historically had a significant polish minority so that could be where your polish ancestry is from.

About the face reveal: one of the things you can do is to have a face cam in your videos. As a viewer, I _generally_ prefer not to have somebody's face in the corner of the screen when watching their videos. At least for me, it usually distracts from what's going on in the game. There are exceptions, but for a game like C:S I don't think a face cam would enhance the experience, no matter how handsome you are ;-) That's of course just one aspect of having your face known by your viewers, but unless you really want to do more public things in relation to your content, I don't think it's worth sacrificing your privacy for. I'm very interested to see how you will wrap your series up. It sounds like you have specific plans for them. I particularly enjoy the challenges with building several smaller communities in Clearwater County. I hope you will be able and willing to do something similar in C:S2.

Hey Phil, I have a degree in Microbiology and wanted to pass on some knowledge about ancestry tests since you were talking about them towards the end of the video in case you find it interesting. A lot of DNA or ancestry tests that people can take through online sites generally do not really have the precision some people might think. What most of these ancestry tests do is compare whatever kind of DNA sample you send in with those that they have accessible or stored in their own database. Your results typically tell you how similar your DNA is to whatever they have on hand. This means that using multiple different companies can produce different results, depending on how big their own database is, where most of their samples are from, etc. The most accurate and concrete way to know your own ancestry is to trace it through family history, which unfortunately I know is difficult in a lot of cases. However, I do think ancestry tests still have some merit for entertainment or just general interest.

I think the biggest thing is that they aren’t really able to show past migrations. For example, I have Irish ancestry that I know is from the north of Ireland pre-ulster plantation. Because they migrated to the U.S. as the Scottish and English moved in, it shows that I have very little results from modern Northern Ireland. I know that I have very little to no English ancestry, however, it shows that I have ancestry in specifically Liverpool, which had high levels of Irish immigration, and London, which was the capital of the the Empire, so no real surprise there.

I used to only get really scammy looking KZbin ads, and ads for prepper nonsense. The best way I've found to deal with that is to use a good VPN service and set it to somewhere in Europe. When you get an obnoxious unskippable ad, refresh the page. It will usually give you a different ad. If KZbin keeps giving you the same obnoxious unskippable every time you refresh the page, set your VPN to a different country, and then refresh the page. If you get 2 unskippable adds in a row that are 15 seconds or longer, refresh the page after the first ad is done. It should go right back to the video. In most cases, refreshing the page to deal with ads will move the video back 10-15 seconds from where you left off, but sometimes the video will restart from the beginning. Fun fact: When I set my VPN to Switzerland, my ads are from the UK, Germany, Hungry, Ukraine, Italy, or France. They almost never actually come from Switzerland.

I live in Nashville, and contract work with the Nashville Dept. of Transportation. So I get a front line view of what they are trying to do with our transportation issues and over reliance on cars. The current NDOT director is implementing policies that make it harder for cars to be in downtown, which would make since if there was a better mass transit system, but don’t. (Ex., taking away parking, making all pay for parking, with a 2 hour limit.) So people who live and work downtown are not happy. What are your thoughts on this?

If it's CPU intensive, as I believe it will be, CS2 will do better on a 7950x over the x3D, since the x features better productivity benchmarks over the x3D, while the x3D makes a tradeoff for better graphical performance. CS's bottleneck was always in the 'productivity' side of processing. I expect the same to be true in CS2; we're still simulating traffic, cargo, cims, dozens of interlocking data layers, etc.

Speed limit discussion: design VS intent. it's quite simple, the longer the straight line is, the more boring the road is, the faster you go. The snakier the road is, the funnier it is, and you can't speed that fast. I've seen in many videos on youtube insanely low speed limit put on some roads. Also, people don't know how to drive, they just move their vehicule form point A to point B. Driving is more that operating the vehicule. I'm sure that many americans won't get their driving license in Europe. Get driving school, really. Stay focus; drive with the flow; if you don't feel it, don't do it. The other thing that is insane, THE car's nation hate the driving. Many drivers do others things that driving. Meanwhile some could do a 4h trip to get laid and it's a one-off (or one-of, not sure), that's insane too.

Landing 794 out of the Marquette Interchange is going to end up with some ridiculous grades.

Btw, two more thoughts: You don't really _have to_ stop playing C:S1 on the channel if you don't want to. C:S2 content will likely be more successful by comparison, but I watch channels that play more than one "generation" of a game and are doing well. Of course, if you prefer to switch completely to C:S2, go ahead. I think most of your viewers watch for you, and your playstyle, rather than one specific game. Also, after seeing you build this gated community, I kind of want you to build a trailer park like the one in Bluffside Crossing, or some other "impoverished" neighbourhood. For balance, you know ;-)

Am I the only one wondering what is this clearly British-style city in 5:39? 🤔

Stay as you are, I don't need to see your face to enjoy your content. On the contrary, it makes you a little mysterious. I don't know if you know this, but when you hear a radio host you like, you imagine what they might look like. When you see his face in a picture somewhere, he usually looks different from what you imagined and you are a little disappointed. After that, the magic is gone. You still like to hear him, but it's not like before. If you know what I mean. So don't see yourself forced to show your face, you don't have 500k+ subscribers who have never seen your face for nothing

1. Name the schools ( add Private School at the end) 2. Make more homes on the highways or main roads like the ones you see on 2 lane highways 3. Use paradox mods swimming pools and tennis courts. Operational, better looking, don’t need roads to attach to. They also have multiple building types( vanilla) and more American suburb homes.

Mics sound exactly the same to me

New mic is softer then old mic. The old mic has more energy. The higher energy sounds better and is more entertaining. Prefer to hear the old way.

Would love to see the whole Jono-Hermit collection in Boombox. Grians work song still occasionally pops up in my brain and gets stuck there.
