Civ 6 | This Game Changed How I Play Tokugawa! - (#1 Deity Japan Civilization VI)

In this game of Civ 6, we’ll be playing as Tokugawa’s Japan, and the objective today was to explore play a leader widely reputed to be the best in Civilization Six!
Tokugawa uses internal trade routes to build on Japan’s natural district adjacency powers to create a civilization well versed in science, culture and gold. Can we use internal trade route mechanics to create a scientific, militaristic powerhouse? I’ll tell you this for free - this game changed how I view Tokugawa and Japan!!

If you guys want to make your hermetic playthroughs a bit more fun, install the Harmonists mod. It gives you an option to increase ley line spawning (in the game set-up menu) even if you don't choose the Harmonists as your secret society. You can also use "better Maui and Anansi," which gives Maui the ability to plant Ley Lines.

Tokugwa is my favorite leader to play as. The ability to either go full isolationist or rampaging conqueror and still having amazing trade route options just makes for really fun games.

Tokugawa is my main leader. Giga yields galore. My general game plan is get two or three cities in a triangle, get feed the world, get gov plaza (audience chamber) and diplo quarter in city 2 or 3 for trade routes. Then main commercial hubs and industrial zones. I usually don’t build campuses til like turn 70 and I still keep up with science from population. Only struggle is amenity’s with a large population.

I really enjoy the religion from the Religion Expanded Mod that gives 1% production per citizen following your religion as an alternative to feed the world. It is not that good early on, but boy the late game on steam viki, Germany, Japan, Australia, even Khmer is just beautiful :)

Hey Ursa! I think you sleep on (as you would say) how powerfull it is to make use of Cahokia during an Amani tour. A tile improvement that gives you something without you having to work the tile is super powerfull imho, especially when it's an amenity AND a housing! Late game when you need the tile for something else you can just put the mound in the 4th or 5th ring if you happen to again be suzerain of Cahokia.

I played Civ6 for several years before it dawned on my that I could learn from KZbinrs (Potato McWhiskey first) and I gotta admit....I ALWAYS went Magnus first and Liang second. In my mind, Settlers and Builders were the most high-yield. Never clued-in to the Imani tour. Never clued-in to the Pingala yields.

So I’m new to deity, I was trying to recreate this, everything was going well, then I had waves of barbarians rain down upon me with swordsmen and archers. By the time I had dealt with that another wave came but man at arms and crossbow men. Did I just get unlucky? Not sure what I could have done.

Could do with some advice- How does everyone get past the mid game stage? I really love this game until the mid stage. Even watching it is so entertaining. But when it comes to lots of cities and policy cards and all the micro managing I just lose the capacity to go with it. Anyone else like that?

Also, even if it’s not perfect gameplay, start specializing your cities. You’d have a civilian units city (Liang) a troops city, a harbor city, etc. This forces you to learn cities and what buffs what and is a gateway to more complex setups.

Ursa when will you play India again? I played a game with india and won a science game at break. I went for religions expanded mod and got the religion where holy site provides science.. Amazing game , coz as India , I also got feed the world , work ethic and Jesuit education from my neighbours so all I did was cultivate faith and bought all campus buildings instead of constructing

Bro what 😂 Owls of Minerva literally gives you a free policy slot from the moment you adopt it and another one in the Industrial era. It also gives you the ability to easily control all the city-states on the map, or at least anything within trading range. Those abilities alone are way better than what Hermetic Order offers.
