They joked/predicted it last episode...there's a huge gap of skill between Lewis and the others which is why they try to gang up on him. They are terrified of him and rightly so, after all he 2vs1 last game against the second best player of the game and rolled over them like a hot knife through butter.

That whole thing is just horribly implemented. It's supposed to be an intermediate unit but blocks you from upgrading to muskets so creates an even bigger power gap unless you build completely new units. The bizzare icon switching is just annoying, but the whole thing is really not in a usable state.

strength of your empire is directly proportional to amount of cities and districts in civ 6 Duncan, you needed to build more cities.

Those four cities that Lewis planted relatively recently, to his Southeast, are twofold the reason why he's now beating Duncan so hard: Lew Lew now has many cities generating lots of science, and Duncan is now severely limited for space and won't be able to expand anywhere to catch up (although by now that's too late anyway). I'll pin this on Duncan not realising this earlier (or rather, at all) and that being his downfall. He might even end up below Pflax on score now, since Pyrion can still go overseas. Dunc doesn't have that option as he's practically trapped by the cilindric shape of the world. His only option would be to land-grab some of Tom's stuff on that peninsula, but he's a little too nice for that. He thinks in threats, not in opportunities - Tom is no threat, so he won't attack. Lewis would've fucked him up way back during their war and used the new power to catapult ahead.

I think they should hold off until Civ VI is playable at least, instead of the usual broken mess on launch. It's less bad than normally with Firaxis, and things are being patched for a change, but it's still far from acceptable. I tend to view these types of situations as a procedural launch. When the game is first purchasable, it doesn't exist yet (pre-orders). When it's first "launched," a partial version of the product is downloadable and can be "played" (depending on the level of completeness, definition of "played" may differ greatly). Then, the "patches" that fix some of the problems are just the rest of the game being slowly drip-fed until eventually, the game is finally fully launched (if you're lucky) and that's when I'll decide whether or not it's worth my time and money. If it went through a pre-order stage, however, it usually isn't. Sure, it requires patience, but the game isn't going anywhere and there's loads of other ways I can fill my days and nights. It does save a lot of mispurchase ballache, though.
