It's not all civil servants. Most of us are mid level "office" workers. And most of this stuff is driven by policies. Also employing people in areas they no nothing about but have degrees which also have nothing to do with the area they are in doesn't help.

If they all got sacked tomorrow, there would be no one getting theri National Pensions, no benefits paid, no Military to protect the country, nobody to collect taxes to keep the country running. We complain about how poor our MP's are at times, and rightly so. But I do also believe that the Civil Service are a complete disgrace. How can these guys, who are quite high up the latter not attend a select committee, knowing that they are going to be grilled, without making sure they have answers for pretty well anything they are going to be asked. The scale of this incompetence is amazing, and how much are these guys getting paid?????? A heck of a lot more than most people but I'm sure most of us would have expected to be questioned and would have done our homework.....

If James Cleverley had one ounce of courage and respect then he should have had these two muppets fired when they walked back into the Home Office. If ever there was an example of how Governments are constrained by 'Yes Minister' Civil Servants, this was it. Sheer and utter incompetence. Is it any wonder this country is falling apart at the seams when some of the highest paid Civil Servants fail to do their jobs properly.but still get their gold plated salaries and pensions.
