Short barrel “mountain howitzers” didn’t have the barrel length necessary to generate higher velocities. Chances are a “field gun “with a longer barrel & heavier charges with an iron cannonball, penetration would have been different.

You guys barely even got started...My friends and i shot up an 80's Ford Escort station wagon back in 1996. It took 3 hours to put 7000 rifle and shotgun rounds through it, and 250 of those were .50 BMG. It looked like swiss cheese. The police even pulled over the rollback wrecker carrying it wondering WTH?! I have it on video and it would make a perfect first KZbin video...hmmmmm...

Technically, it is called "canister". Grape was only used in NAVAL battles. They are two entirely different types of shot.

I would generalize, vast majority of combat deaths were caused by artillery in general. Be it Napoleonic wars or ww 1 and 2 or civil war. Not only canister, round shots as well.

Pop gun cannon firing half loads. Try that with an actual 12pdr Mountain Howitzer with a full charge load. it would have flipped that car over. And a properly placed load of canister would have shredded it like a giant meat grinder. A 12pdr gun like a Napoleon would have really f**ked it up.

Well, the physics of a CW-cannon are no different to today's. So an object impacting on a car is not much different fired from a cannon from today or then. You get slaughtered by it. But quite fun trying it out. ☺️
