This is beautifully done and so informative! I've watched all of your videos on civil war fashion and they are fantastic!

I absolutely LOVE the dresses from this era! I must have been an antebellum clotheshorse in a previous life! LOL. Seriously though, if these dresses ever came back, I would be in fashion heaven!!!

You can easily buy these types of dresses off of eBay. Type in crinoline dress or civil war ball gown

The women who wore these beautiful dresses no doubt never imagined they would be in a museum!

Well done! I enjoyed this very much. My personal taste prefers dresses from the 1700's to this from the mid 1800's forward. I really enjoy looking at these. Thanks for uploading

Beautiful dresses! But what is that fringe @ 1.54 on the blue dress made of. It sounds like it's made of 'twists of corn'? I know it can't be that but can't think what it is - looks like glass tube?
@littlelady59716 жыл бұрын
EuphemiaGrubb It's "twists of cord" and beads. The beads are quite possibly glass, actually, since that and wood were the most common materials for beads back then. I remember hearing of metal being used too, but that wouldn't have been that common since it was pretty expensive to do that.

Did they send these dress to the cleaners when they got dirty.? too complicated to hand wash
@caspence564 жыл бұрын
Actually, they would just carefully "spot clean" dresses like these; also, after being worn, the garment would be brushed and hung outside for an "airing".

Imagine the poor women going through menopause wearing these heavy dresses! I'm dying just thinking about it!
@androfanatic95484 жыл бұрын
A corset held most of the weight and distributed it evenly and these dress also used a hoop skirt to help hold it out and make it lighter and it was cooler because of the space around the legs
