Nice to see the "dudes" back at the detecting hunts once again. 😉 Was this back along the Oregon Trail or a bit further down from there? Having a large wide-open field like that to detect is pretty nice, I'm sure. No chances of getting into wires or other electrical dangers.

I wouldn't use a spray bottle when detecting... I heard it can take patina off the coin... I would just use a soft bristle toothbrush, dry. Don't use medium or hard, because they're more likely to scratch the coin.

What difference does it make? They scrub the dirt and grit into them like they're old car parts. Did you see all the scratches on that little gold ring? What bunch of amateurs. I can't stand to watch such foolishness.

When you clean, or even just wipe, a coin -- it diminishes its value greatly. Avoid the urge to wipe it with your thumb. Only use the water spray to remove the dirt.
