what made USSR and USA allied together to fight the Germans? A common enemy.. Maybe they both got tired of the Federal government and what out but understood it was better fight together even though they have different ideologies.

I think the opening scene is President staying for 3rd term; so I think it's tyranny issue. Not a red/blue.

Yes, I think that definitely makes sense. Now that I have seen the trailer a few times, I have definitely picked up on a few things. Thanks for stopping by and commenting! - JR

The real question is. what side of the are you on. then the next question will be. are you on the cool side or are you on the tyranny side? "Who ever wins the wars wright the history books." (Berlyn Cosman) will deside who's good and who's bad. And none of you can change that... try to make me a liar...

I'm very intrigued by this movie, for sure... but I'm also somewhat concerned. The nation is really on a hair-trigger right now, and this will just throw gas on the fire during what is already guaranteed to be a very, very contentious election-year. I hope at the very least they resist the urge to bash one side of the political spectrum or engage in unfair stereotypes, and instead present a more nuanced vision of what things will... er I mean might, be like. I'm a huge sucker for anything by A24, and this has some good talent behind it. I'm interested.

When the trailer first landed they revealed a major point. They said "third term president" . That might be enough for strange bedfellows....

Ahhh, I missed that, but that is an interesting concept! With what is going on in the news lately, I have to say I am anxious to see this and what the director's vision is of how this goes down. Thanks for the comment! - JR

as someone who lives in virginia and just outside of the largest naval base in the world… yikes. this movie has a VERY scary prospect but i find it intriguing nonetheless.

The point of California and Texas alliance by the filmmaker is to not take a side, that's on purpose. The point of the movie is more so about the "what-ifs" of a domestic war.

That old black guy died last year. This looks interesting. JR isn't correct about the staff at the various military bases. They are not staffed by people from that state per say. Soldiers come from all over the country. It would be more driven by the generals and the troops they control and would they be able to control those troops. I think the states could fight each other. I mean that could happen tomorrow. California and Florida hate each other. What makes it wild is who would control the Federal forces? If a Democrate is in office would he and vise versa? I hope a civil war never happens and anyone who supports that idea is a traditor in my book.

Yes, there are soldiers from all across the country, but most of the soldiers seem to be regional. Plus all of the States have their own National Guards at those bases. So I can see how the military can split. - JR

People keep getting stuck on the California/Texas alliance. El Paso, Dallas and Houston are just three consistently blue areas of Texas. There are also red areas of California (on a smaller scale). The President in this story has been in power for more than 5 years, he's in his third term. The three states with the largest military power are California, Virginia and Texas. It is not at all strange that under these circumstances these two powerful military states would form an alliance against a dictator who likely still controls Virginia. The myopic views of most people who react to this trailer really hammers home just how limited most people's thinking is.
@CultLords7 ай бұрын
I am not stuck on the California/Texas alliance, it was just my first thought. Plus ct5625, you need to know how we do trailer reactions. We get a list of 20-30 trailers we have not seen before and then watch in real time and react. No preparation, no thought about the subject matter. Just watch a 2 minute trailer and react for 3-4 minutes. To me, it sounds like you have been watching a lot of trailer reactions to this movie, so you have had plenty of time to formulate your thoughts on this. We didn't. We probably watched 10 trailers before this and then 10 trailers after this. Not a lot of time for analysis and breakdown. Since we did this trailer review, I have had a couple of weeks to think about where TX and CA could align. Just my added 2 cents to this trailer. Thanks for stopping by and commenting though. That is an interesting tidbit on CA-TX and VA military presence. - JR

The Texas Cali thing makes sense....if youre not seeing the world through only online political news and views... California, Texas, and the states in between, do have a fair amount of people...but more than people, they have LAND. In a ground war, the land its self is key....the populations on top of it come and go. That land is privately owned, as well as a fair amount of federal holdings. Privately owned land is usually held by conservatives. So....while LA and San Fran, and Austin - and to a lesser extent the labor class of Silicon Valley - are 'loud proud lefties', the MASSES of ACREAGE surrounding those cities is still full 'red state' realness. Do not get it twisted. LA and San Fran would likely have to wall themselves off, while the enormity of Californias rural areas would be held down by wealthy private militaries and whatever cartel forces remain from marijuana grow operations in northern Cali and the North West. If you look at electoral maps of the nation by county, you'll see exactly why California - as a state, not a philosophy - connects seamlessly with Texas Nevada Colorado, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and the Dakotas: The "Blue Team" are densely populated urban Islands... on a vast, thinly populated "Red Sea". If the war goes offline and on the ground, It makes sense for most of the west to coalesce around the access and resources provided by the Sacremento and San Joaquin Valleys, the Colorado River, and the millions of acres of existing ranchland. The existing owners/operators of land and industries in those areas, to say nothing of the existing folks living between those areas - far flung desert dwellers and mountaineers - are not San-Fran Soy Latte Folks to begin with. The first thing in war is to protect ones own - land resources family - and as much of the west is already owned by corporations or the mega wealthy, it makes sense - perfect sense - that those barons of cattle, timber, oil, and tech would circle their wagons, load up their existing ARMORIES, double their "security forces' and start putting up fences. The next war is the war between town and country. And 'country' has the land advantage.

The three states with the largest military power are California, Virginia and Texas. If the dictator still controls Virginia, it makes sense for California and Texas to form a military union.

Most reactors keep getting stuck on the Texas/California thing and that they think it's not realistic. What they all keep forgetting that this is fiction, it's a movie, it's not real. That some folk keep seeing this as sort of 'when it happens' movie. And that scares me.

We taped this a couple of weeks before the Texas crisis was in the news. Now you can see some of that rhetoric unfolding before our very eyes. I still think it would take a lot to see California and Texas align, but you are right. It could be this issue alone that starts something like a Civil War. Thanks for the comment and insight. - JR
