Yo Mike, congrats, man! Your videos have been a huge encouragement. I had my interview in mid-November and have been in the process for almost two years now crazy to say. I’m going for infantryman and hoping for an update soon. Thanks for documenting this journey, it’s really helped ease some anxiety, lol. Best of luck!

Two Years, that is ridiculously long, no wonder our military can't get enough recruits. On January 6, 1967, I walked into the recruiting centre in Victoria, BC, and on January 26th, I was at CFB Cornwallis in Digby, Nova Scotia as an Ordinary Seaman. It was Navy only then except for RCAF WD's (Women Division recruits). After 16 weeks of New Entry Training I was posted to HMCS Gloucester, received my Top Secret clearance in May, and began 10 months of training in the Communications Research Trade. Twenty-six years in the Navy, six ships and four shore postings, before retiring as a Commander. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Your medical is similar to a basic physical, but not quite as in depth. They’ll check your vision and your hearing, you’ll do a couple of standard push-ups and squats, just for them to check your movement, there’s no expectation on them or count. Nothing to be worried about really..

Have you started BMQ yet? Your account stipulates your a soldier in the caf, yet according to these videos you havent started yet. Your not even a soldier until your complete BMQ and your trades training. Dont pretend to be someone your not yet.

I like your spirit and drive. It will assist in you succeeding your course. I'm an instructor at the school. I can reach out to you when your here. Word of the wise. The combat arms doesnt take kindly to people saying they are part of a group they havent officially even begun the training for yet. Ensure your push ups are at 20, with elbows tucked into your side, and you can run 5k within 30 minutes.

@ I appreciate the feedback sir. My push-ups are well above 20. My running needs work and I am actively training to improve it. The Captain at my enrolment has stated that once you take the oath and sign the contract you are now CAF. I am not enrolled as a combat trade either.

You are a member now, that's correct. You will learn the importance of terminology a few weeks into BMQ. A member is not necessarily a soldier. Aviators arent soldiers. Sailors arent aviators. Yet all of us are members. Soldiers are specifically Army trades. In the past to qualify as a "Soldier", once you complete BMQ and you were Land environment, you would do what was called BMQ Land or Soldier Qualification. There, you would learn about machine guns, trenches, etc. The Army has decided only combat arms need to do this course moving forward, and all Army support do not. So we've started acknowledging your an "official" soldier once trade qualified. You should change your KZbin account to reflect your a member now, not a soldier, but we have freedom of speech so in the end you can do what you want. But dont be surprised if other actual soldiers find your account and try to correct you.
