Well, you would think that would be the case, but that’s not true. I remember stopping by a recruiting office in Esquimalt about 25 yrs ago, as my post secondary aspirations had not worked out as I had hoped… figured service would give me a base from which to succeed in the civilian world… I didn’t realize that nobody actually staffs recruitment centres, and there were nothing but locked doors and no representatives….so I called number to make appointment to see a recruiter, and when I showed for appointment, nobody was there to meet me….no call back,nobody saying sorry we missed appointment, would you like to reschedule. Thank you caf recruitment staff….you really helped me dodge a bullet on that one… if I had joined I would never have got the opportunity to get my red seal journeyman ticket in refrigeration/hvac or start my own business, which I still operate to this day. Sometimes a closed door is a blessing, as I realize they would have dumped me in some shit hole third world country, and then told me my injuries were not service related.

Do not worry about the FCAT test it is there to help figure out what is the right path for you and over preparing for it is not really required. Just ensure you have basic arithmetic down. CAF recruitment is awful. I understand that our military is small but the lack of effort put in by recruiters is shocking. I had to wait 2 years just to be told that maybe they would have a spot for me at the end of the year. And that all of my paper was expired.

Have money, it's expensive to join our military. As the mother of a now serving member our son couldn't have done it on his own there is a lot unexpected expenses starting with your kit for basic, items not needed but had to be purchased, making sure your basic kit is all the same color ei your sweat pants, shorts, shirts the expenses add up. Even something as simple as getting an item tailored is rediculous, huge backlogs, every base should have a tailoring room that members can access that have an inexpensive sewing machine, threads, a variety of uniform button's, laces for boots, such simple stuff that is a huge extra expense.

you need to do 2 years of service in the caf prior to try for selection in special force
@timmytwodogs Жыл бұрын
Unless you're at least 2 years into combat arms and not some REMF in the rear, they won't be interested.
@KyraNankivell10 ай бұрын
You first have to be in the military. The CAF doesn’t have direct entry to special forces from the public (like they do in the U.S. for example). Then you get nominated for Selection.

I think you need to at least be a perm resident first but its best to shoot a email to a recruiter.

I'm considering joining the Caf for a military cook... I've got college done and all just need to get in shape and learn how to swim.. How many months would it take from the start of enlistment to the start of basic training?

It really depends, some were good to go to bmq in a couple of weeks, others a couple of months and some even took 1 year+.

Some people are saying that they waited two years just to receive a "maybe" from their recruiter. These stories aren't all lining up, unless they've gotten really desperate just in the last two years which I guess wouldn't surprise me. I know they haven't been doing well in terms of numbers.

I applied at the same time as my friend we both filled out the paperwork at the same time, both did the CFAT test on the same day (the recruiting centre is an hour away from us so we commuted together) but when it came to the screening process my friend already got an email back and I’m still waiting and have been waiting for a long time. It’s getting really depressing anyone have any advice?

Just so you guys know. This guy got kicked out of recruit training school at CFLRS Quebec as an instructor. He was deemed untrustworthy because he cares more about his KZbin channel and boosting himself than actually mentoring recruits. He brags about being a sailor with probably 20 sea days. Remember this, there are countless sailors at much lower ranks with exponentially more sea days than this petty officer. Nobody respects Petty officers that dont do their time on the deck plates. Zero respect.🫡
