It is an unbelievably bad site. There are no 3 production tiles in the first two rings. No unique luxury. And only two hills in range. He would have been better off to lose that settler to barbarians.

I would say he doesn't want to build Petra because he has "wasted" a city in the canal, and if in the later game if he has a half decent fleet that city would be really useful.

youre all wrong. you are aall thinking like economics. The city location is a military strategical location. locking africa from any type of land based invasion and giving his, and only his civ the ability to traverse between two world oceans. even had it been snow tiles the location would have been perfect. put on the generals hat and stop looking at numbers :)

Yeah, Totally. A great place to build his 5th city. But having your second city be a burden instead of a producer is doom.

And so once again Egypt goes back to its old ways of (trying) to smack Israel around...I say "try" because the last couple times it didn't work out so well for them (IDF for the win! that and the Centurion Sho't-Kal tank!) EDIT: also, you should've called the 2nd city Port Said...can't remember which end its on (I think the north) but that's one of the major ports associated with the Suez Canal

hey man, thanks for the video. with that much land, why arent you expanding like crazy towards cottons, incense and ivory? i'm hoping you're going to pick desert folclore and petra in your capital. let's see how different would be our playstyles. sorry if im asking stupid questions, im just starting to understand better the various aspects of the game.

I'm not sure about this map, but Carthage shouldn't be spawning too close to Thebes. It would be closer to Morocco, near Sicily.

I did not see Carthage, but quill made it seem as if it he didn't think it would be spawning because it would be too close to his starting location. If Carthage were to be in this game, which it probably isn't, it would spawn just north of where his first "turbo archer" is chilling with a barb and some wine. This would be further from both Marrakech and Thebes than Mecca is from Thebes. I was confused when quill kept implying that Carthage was really close to Thebes because when I play Rome Total War as Carthage, Egypt always felt much further away than any other conquest options (Rome, Spain, Nubia).

I don't know about the UI mod, but he's playing unmodded as far as gameplay aside from the map and start location.

Mecca isn't adjacent to the desert and can't build petra in his capital and if he builds it elsewhere he's as screwed as you are.
