Man, Spain will be tricky to unlock if you are not playing the prerequisites. Reconquering a lost settlement is historic as the Reconquista, but that means you have to allow it to be conquered first, which will depend on the AI.

I finally worked out, maybe very late, what the feel of the new civ game is. And it is a diorama, each tile feels like a small diorama connected to countless more dioramas and i find that awesome!

18:30 It looks like you would have gotten 2 gold per turn from accepting the deal Augustus proposed, in exchange for him getting 2 food per turn in all of his towns. Is giving an AI food in exchange for you getting gold a good deal? In 6 it would be, always, because the AI wouldn't use it nearly as well as you would use the gold. Same reasoning seem to be true of 7?

Hmmm would be nice if the civ logo top left has the same color as the leader. Both works to lessen confusions (i.e. playing as Rome, vs. Augustus), and adds to the whole 'yes it is normal for civs to change, it is the leader that remains the same' thing.

Really strange that they have picked such a narrow limiting design for the game. There are so many "Either-Or" options rather than allowing the player a freedom to do what they like. I'm not really sure why they did this, other than to make the AI easier to write and to compete. Also the flavour of the Civs seem muddled together. All this means that you lose the flavor of playing a civ. Are you playing as Rome or Russia at the start there? That is really going to impact replay value. First time seeing it, and talking through each decision, looks great, but it is going to get old fast. I get the impression that this is going to be a better multiplayer game, but not as good of a single-player game as Civ6. And that aggressive settlement seems to indicate that we have the same suicidal AI from Civ6. Really want the next Civ game, but I am generally not liking more than I like.

I think that UIs are one of the easiest things to mod, so even if I would not like it. It most likely is easy to change. For my eyes this is rather clean UI, so not bad. This is also a month from the release, so we don´t know what changes there will be... Bug fixes.... sure. Maybe changes in other parts also like UI? Hard to say. But this seem working and as I said. Rather easy to mod!

I haven't been this disappointed since the Tigers lost to the Cleveland baseball club in last October's playoffs. I do not see this game as being anything but a real slog to play. Catherine just standing there, looking like a fairy godmother with a magic wand in her right hand, looks bored too.

hugely disappointed the map isn't 3d like humankind, with obvious implications for combat. Was an obvious evolution in the genre and bafflingly the baton bearer decided not to carry it forward. Feels like Humankind pressed ahead, and Civ remains entrenched in the past, very unexpected.
