Pretty sweet seeing Lafayette as a leader! He was the French general who, at the Golden Plough Tavern in York, Pennsylvania, stopped Horatio Gates from convincing the Continental Congress from supplanting George Washington as the general of the Continental Army. It was quite likely that, had Lafayette not given his speech in support of Washington, the United States would have lost the Revolutionary War. A very cool choice, now that Civ7 isn't using only national leaders.
@danielgyllenbreider14 күн бұрын
That leaders dislike weak civs is a bit weird, since they should dislike civs that they see as their worst competitors. Was the same in Civ 6 and it doesnt make any sense at all.
@Anarchyttg5 күн бұрын
I always saw it as them seeing smaller civs as lesser states only fit to be ruled. Kings in the Bronze age would use the term "Brother" to show equal status, and the first time an Assyrian king used the term in a letter, the response chastised him for daring to consider himself equal.

I really hope its a British Civ, not an England Civ, for modern age. In every single Civ game they'd just combined English and British into one thing and called it "English". I want to have a more Victorian British Civ, but also exploration age English and Scottish civs before it.

@@mysterymastermind175 If they want to do it right, they should have Celts/Saxons(Germans)/Danes in the first age, English/Scottish/Irish in the Second age, and British in the 3rd Age. Unfortunately these are modern Americans here, and they really do love to blame their history on Europeans. It is very odd because of the 2 Civilization issues they want to blame on the British, are the 2 issues they went to war with the British fighting to preserve.

@TheToledoTrumpton They did make england and scottland separate civs last time, i think they could do it this time.
@TheToledoTrumpton13 күн бұрын
@ I honestly think that the Scots and the Irish shouldn't be separate, because of their common Celtic root. You probably know that Scotland was the Roman name for Ireland. And the Scotii were the Irish tribe, that went on to conquer modern day Scotland from the Picts. But I don't buy into this idea of "Branching Civilizations", that they are using in the Game, pretending that civilizations that "Lost" Civilization IRL, contributed much to the civilizations that conquered them doesn't seem to match the evidence. As I say though, it is just a game, it doesn't have to be very historically accurate. I also find it a little culturally insensitive, but I don't read these things very well. For example, I'm not sure that the remaining people who identify as Shawnee want to "Take the blame" culturally for modern America! 🤣 I think they should have added in a "Hypothetical" Civ for each continent, for the ones that didn't have them, in each age, rather than getting a similar Western civilization that is very generic and not very interesting. If left alone, what would an African, or North American Civ end up looking like?
@wilcoxchar14 күн бұрын
We've seen Siam in a screenshot. We'll probably get one more European civ for the modern age since they've typically been doing two Europeans per age, and then based on other ages the last one is probably a Middle Eastern civ, maybe Ottomans? One thing I like that they're doing this time around is the geographic balance of civs in the base game. Instead of having a third to half the civs be European, they're finally giving Europe equal treatment to the rest of the world's regions.
@DirectorHatman14 күн бұрын
French and Russia are already there, likely England would be the third, or Prussia since they seem to be going 1800-1900s for modern age.

I enjoy strategy games and have played many hours of Civ2, Civ4 and Civ6 in the past, and enjoyed them all. The biggest things for me are playability, immersion and a challenging AI, fancy graphics and UI being secondary. My feelings on Civ7 from what I’ve seen so far are: 1. I get that late game play can be tedious as winning becomes inevitable, but surely a better to prevent this is to improve the AI rather than introduce civ changes and resets with every age change. Play in the modern age in early Civs is no excuse for omitting the current age. 2. There should be more ages. Antiquity - Medieval - Exploration - Industrial (up to and including WW1) - Modern and Information. 3. If you are enforcing a civ change you need to have more realistic choices. To not have England and others that explored much of the world, as an Exploration age choice perverse as is omission from an industrial/modern age. 4. The concept of building a civilization to stand the test of time appears to be dead. 5. I have no problem with them changing game mechanics and there are some good aspects, like navigable rivers, the role of towns, removing workers, etc, but not providing enough civs to make age transition a workable and historically realistic. proposition really hits the game immersion. There should be an option to transition to something historically accurate or just stick with your original civ. if you start with Greece why could that not continue through the ages. Likewise an Ancient Britain/Saxon civ could become English and then British. 6. I would prefer leaders to be based on actual leaders, like presidents and Kings. Great people, like Ben Franklin, have their place, but as great people, not leaders of nations. I won’t be buying the game as it is, but will wait to see how it develops. For now I will stick to existing Civ versions, or just play more chess, which is still the best strategy game.

The ages thing is going to take a bit of getting used to, particularly until we get all the Civs. The idea that the USA are a unique "Civilization", and not just one of many extensions of an Anglo-Saxon civilization, is a bit of a mental leap for me. The idea that culturally, economically or militarily the USA as it is today would have popped into existence in North America even if the Saxons and Danes never existed, is a little bizarre, and hurts my immersion in the game. The reverse is true as well; we never get to experiment with what a modern day Persian, or Mississippian civ would look like.

Well, today after this video was released, Russia and Catherine the Great were announced, so it's down to two slots left for Modern Age civs in the initial release's 10 civs. I expect them to keep promises they have made by mentioning civ names in guides and livestreams, as with Buganda and Meiji Japan, so I would be surprised if they are not in the final 10. But I don't think that Siam was promised just because its symbol appears in the HUD of leaders in one of the Modern games in that livestream. Because their release is going to be just a month after the initial release, the civs in the Deluxe edition have to be practically as developed and ready to play as the 10 released in February. Playtesting something to be released in March has to have been already in progress by the time they made the Modern Age livestream, so it would be natural for Siam to be among the civs played against by America in that livestream, if Siam is one of the Deluxe civs. I don't know what the evidence for Morocco is, but I am not aware that it has been promised for February either. While it is true that Britain and Germany haven't been promised either, I think they are better bets than Siam and Morocco.

That "disgusting paywall" is called a "price". Companies that offer products and services charge a "price" to consumers as a means of recouping their investment and making a profit. If the price is more than the public is willing to pay and it is a non-essential purchase, then, over time, the market will adjust accordingly and its price will likely drop.
