The problem with Civ games is that after a certain Age, you're left with scores of workers with nothing to do. Pollution in a way can be a welcome element although I agree it could get very monotonous

or simply automate your workers... after you've built all your mines and farms they wont rebuild it. they will then just build railroads and clean ya pollution.

@@siegesquirrel42 I agree.. in a way it kind of felt like all these other leaders grew and adapted alongside you, seeing them 'update' every era was always like a subtle warning like when one strikes up diplomacy and they're in a suit and tie already and you're still in your dark-age garb and you're like fuck i'm gonna get stomped

@@hurlbag559 I always interpreted it as them wanting us to perceive the leader heads as just a mascot for whatever civilization you're playing as, whereas changing with era leader heads may give people the impression of an immortal supreme leader. Still, bring back them changing leader heads!

This game had so many problems like corruption, waiting 3 min for your turn, culture problems, diplomacy problems. And yet I played this game more than any other game in my life. It took years for me to get bored of it. Why do games have to eventually get old? I wish i could wipe my memory of civ clean so i could build that first battleship, launch my first sea invasion, conquer my first city, and launch my first nuke all over again. :'(

@@hetzer5926 another lil trick: if you have ya economy up but get a lot of pollution, set ya workers to automatic. if you enable advanced options you can even tell them to only repair or clean tiles where you built on it already.

Or how they essentially ruled with absolute power (no matter your ostensible government type) and lived (along with their immortal cadre of advisors) for literally thousands of years and didn't care if there was a revolution (which, in real life, would often mean the unceremonious - if not painful! - death of said leader).

This track feels so cathartic to me because this plays at the modern era after my civ has gone through so much to get there and, after establishing my hegemony over the world, I'm now looking up at the stars building my space program. In a way, it makes me melancholic because it's like I'm standing outside my palace reminiscing all the wars and stuff that made my civ the way it is in the modern era.

This song is the absolute pinnacle of the Civ 3 soundtrack. After listening to wooden flutes and mammoth bone xylophones for 80% of the game you get to rest in a bed of buttery smooth saxophone, plucky guitar and groovy ass drums. The absolute audacity of the sax solo tells you that your science advisor is kicking the door down to tell you that you have entered the modern age motherfucker. Let's play the game.

Have been playing some civ 6 lately, was thinking music is ok but could be better. So I remembered how the transition to the modern age in civ 3 changed the mood of the game with lovely jazz-bluesy kind of music. This piece in particular was even better than i remembered. It really seems to capture so much of the mood of modern civilization; the wealth and comfort; the abundance of human triumphs; the novelty. But also a bit of disorientation and ennui from having reached a plateau -- now with all this wealth and all the technology we need, what's the path forward from here?
