It's not a coincidence. The game assigns names to geographical features (lakes, rivers, mountains, etc.) from a list based on whoever discovers them.

Settle on the wheat that you mentioned but said you probably won't. There are two mines just to the northwest and west of it that you can use to culture bomb, and get adjacency bonuses from those mines. It also puts you a little closer to the volcano/wonder, so you can take up more tiles from it. With Liang, properly promoted, you can protect your improvements from the eruptions.

A fun note: Aqueducts, Dams, and Canals do not count as Districts when it comes to the Gaul's special ability.

Quil if you settle at the pin south of berlin you won't be able to build the +5 science campus in the mountain cul-de-sac because the tile will be adjacent to your city center. Also remember you're mines culture bomb so you can chain building mines to quickly grab tiles on the 3rd 4th and fifth rings. So if you settle on the wheat as you suggested you can chain build mines to grab the cul-de-sac within 6 turns of settling the city or chain build mines to get to the +5 holy site next to the natural wonder and 3 mountains.

It was clear there was a wonder next to that lake when you first revealed the lake on turn 2. 2 of the water spots had culture and normally do not. I was practically screaming at the screen as you sent your unit east instead of west to identify the wonder...

I know this is very old, but I’ve just been getting into Civ 6 and really enjoy your videos. Quill, those three horses and one stone is a great opiddum because it is a +8 production district with the major adjacency that district gets from quarries and strategic resources.

This is my first time seeing this Civ. That Hallstatt Culture ability is such a clever way to shake up the early game in a way no one was expecting.

Now, I know this didn't always go well in history, but attack Germany now? You've got your special unit, which can mash their cities... And you get extra culture from building more units.

Thanks for CIV VI content! You are hands down the best one out there. A question - are you using CQUI for showing scores? I can't seem to make mine work - it does not show the scores except for when I hove over leader heads... List of other mods you are using also appreciated!

I know this has likely been recorded in bulk already, but placing the city on that wheat you talked of at the end would give you the option for a great university district on the left of it, as it would be surrounded by mountains on all but one side.

Not clearing the southern barb camp when you had the chance was a mistake; now it'll keep spawning units until or unless you're able to get other units down there.

Funny thing is, they chose the ONE GAUL who's very existence is disputed to this day, because the only source we have mentioning him is written by Caesar himself, and might have been created by Caesar to make the defeat at the hands of the Belgae look less bad, by naming Ambiorix the leader and thus creating a scapegoat

Laylines really help gaul make up for losing the adjacency bonuses from districts.

@@MrGhosta5 Bit of a Hail Mary. Leylines are rarely in a useful place, and Hermetic Order's bonuses really only kick in late game. It's the weakest of the societies.

I know it's already recorded, but 'On the Wheat' in the south would be my choice. can work all culture tiles, has fresh water, and sure you loose some food, but who cares if the placement is so much stronger (for taking advantage of the wonder)

Not saving that last builder charge on your first builder for the mine was kinda silly, you weren't working both ivory until after you got mining... Would've make a better tile than the ivory even without the +1 culture AND culture bomb 5 tiles UA bonus... And you didn't even trade your spare lux to Canada and/or Germany anyway. But hey, if I tried commentary I'd probably be very bad at it. :P

The Gaul mine culture bomb and the inability to put things near city centers is going to make packing cities close a harder prospect. It will limit the number of buildable district sites when you pack them close like that. It basically leaves a line of single tiles for district build sites between your cities.

Good to see Civ VI again! In my opinion (hardly a power player in Civ) I would settle on the wheat. You have two wheat tiles available, and with Gaul's need to build wide, I wouldn't want to crowd my capital. Can't wait to see what you do. :)

They said not on the devs live stream, but you will lose the adjacency bonuses

Also ignore theater squares as your not going to get any good adjaceny bonus from them. you would need 4 mines adjacent to one theater square to get the same adjacency as another civ just building a single entertainment complex. Instead just get your culture from mines/building units.

(Edit) Yes, I know that the Gauls were a Celtic people, but I honestly hadn't expected Civ 6 to separate cultures like that. I would have prefered the Gaels to reflect my own personal heritage and history, but I'm just happy that there is some form of Celtic peoples in this game now. I wouldn't mind getting Ireland though, would be nice.
