The EU new republic: spends years trying to establish a new government with many species disagreeing with eachother due to prior tension, disagreements on trade laws, and other political issues. Has to fight off the greatest battle commander in star wars history as well as fighting a clone dark Jedi. Also fighting a sith empress, a prince's betrayal (aka Jacen Solo), a alien invasion on a galactic scale, a new potential civil war, and many other great threats..... Still standing at the end of the series. New canon: Killed off immediately by a 3rd death star.

Palpatine intentionally had the Empire fall following his death so the most competent Imperial leaders can rebuild and destroy the New Republic. It is like let the Rebels create the New Republic and establish a capital before we use our new super weapon to destroy their new capital. Heck, the First Order had dozens of agents in the New Republic.

I think the way it's presented in this video actually makes a lot of sense. Idealism and the wish to avoid repeating the past were the primary motivation to reduce the military, and political machinations from the first order crippled the new republic's ability to react swiftly enough to change that decision.

FWIW, just an honest observation, I really like the voice you put on here instead of the one you do in a lot of other videos I’ve seen. Hearing your actual voice at the end of those videos, after doing that voice-I know it’s supposed to be sinister talking about the Sith (at least, that’s what I take from it)- it just make that style of narration voice that you do just sound… inauthentic. For other people's information , the New Republic sought to demilitarize themselves because they wanted to show a more peaceful-diplomacy nation. Especially when the galaxy is so fractured , having a grand military would only encourage autonomy and aggressive diplomacy , preventing proper unification of new worlds and systems into the New Republic. Instead of demilitarizing or increasing their military numbers , they should have maintained their numbers but advance their technology (improve quality but remain quantity) . That is my answer to what they should have done.

The obsession with trying to make the heroes the underdogs is part of why the sequel movies turned out poorly. They thought recreating the original trilogy would be fun. I have no idea why. The main cast was cool but poorly used. And bringing in a new super-weapon was a big mistake.

Y’all whining about the New Republic demilitarization like the exact same thing didn’t happen in The Old Republic. History is cyclical, and the last thing you’d want to do after overthrowing a military regime is look like another military regime. Also, they do the same thing in Star Wars Legends, it just took a lot longer to get to that point. They had to make movies so they kinda sped the timeline up so things could actually happen in the movies. Sure, it is basically the same war as the one in the previous trilogy, but thank God it wasn’t a weird alien invasion story like it was with the Yuuzhang Vong in the EU around this time period.
