Indeed. I remember the canon comic that came out a few years ago where he is sent to a volcanic planet (not Mustafar) to intercept the Death Star plans and winds up dueling a doppelganger of Darth Maul to determine who the better apprentice for Sidious is. Just when it looks as though the Maul clone will win, Vader calls his lightsaber to his hand and ignites it, running the saber through himself and the Zabrak. When Maul asks in disbelief, "What could you possibly hate enough to destroy me??", Vader's cold response is, "Myself."

Totally agree. Myself, I have always regarded the very moment when Vader started to refer Luke as HIS son, not Anakin's, as the beginning of his redemption. One can argue when that moment actually began. My own personal guess is that it is even prior to TESB, probably the very moment when Boba Fett informed him of Luke's identity. Regardless, we all know of the famous line "I am your father!" at Cloud City in TESB. We all know the words, but do we ever realize that Vader calls himself as Luke's father, he is not referring to Anakin or himself as another person etc. The moment Vader started to regard himself as Luke's father, when Luke was no longer a mere Jedi enemy, that was when his redemption began, slowly going forward step by step until he finally decided to save Luke's life on the second Death Star. The moment when Vader accepts Luke Skywalker as his own son, his own flesh & blood, he also accepts himself as Anakin Skywalker. The moment he started to see himself as his true self, as Anakin, that was when his true self - the light that Luke kept referring to in ROTJ - started to break free of the Dark Side & the identity of Vader. If Vader had never felt in his heart that Luke was his son then he had also never felt his true self either. And his redemption had never happened. Vader had never sacrificed himself for Luke if he had not accepted him as his child.

Luke’s love and hope for his father combined with guidance from the spirits of those who were close to Vader, including Padme, gave him the the strength to let go of the dark side and turn on Emperor Palpatine.

Incorrect. In legends they were the same individual. Disney retconned that and current canon confirms Anakin and Vader are in fact separate personalities in the same body. I don’t think it’s supposed to be taken literally , unless we go with the angle that many psychologists take which is that Anakin developed BPD due to his trauma. Vader is not a different entity but an alternate personality developed due to the pain and trauma endured in his life, he hides behind the “Vader” personality as his “new identity” to suffer in life for what his done. He chooses to live as Vader to punish himself/as a penance for what he did because he knows it hurts “Anakin” deep in his subconscious

In this particular scene it wasn’t Vader speaking to the past spirits it was Anakin himself breaking through Vader’s vail to speak. You can even hear the change in tone when he began chatting to ObiWan. Anakin really was entombed in his our coffin all those years of servitude to Sidious.

I continue to be amazed at the quality of these stories. The dialogue between Padme and Vader/Anakin was much, much, MUCH better than the dialog seen in the actual movies. The Padme dialog in the movies came across (to me anyway) as cheesy and laughable (even the allegedly sad bits), but this dialogue comes across as a serious and heartfelt conversation. It's extremely well done, and would have made a great scene in a movie.

As Qui Gon said Anakin used to be a boy who believed in freeing the slaves on Tatooine, of seeing the galaxy. But that was before Qui Gon met an untimely demise. Anakin was left at the mercy of a dogmatic, rigid, detached, and uncaring Jedi council and their order which had lost its way a long time ago. If the Jedi had been what they were supposed to have been, if they had given Anakin the emotional support and compassion that he needed then he wouldn’t have fallen for Palpatine’s manipulations. There needs to be a video in which Yoda apologizes to Anakin for how he and the council failed him, how they were too blind by their code to understand the nuances of emotions. Yoda should also apologize for what the council did to Ahsoka. This would occur after they both become one with the force.

Yoda did give Anakin sound advice on how to deal with his anxiety and fear of the future in ROTS, but Anakin ignored it because it wasn't what he wanted to hear. All of this garbage about the Jedi not caring about Anakin is just that: garbage. They made him a Jedi Knight, and despite his recklessness in AOTC, the entire Jedi Order went to Dooku's HQ to bail him out. Had he helped stop Sidious in ROTS, he probably could've been a Master at least.

This video... This MOMENT is what Yoda once warned Anakin of when they first met. "Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering." Anakin's fear of losing Packs led him to make the decisions he did as he proceeded to give into anger. Hatred soon followed as seen in the Tusken Raider camp & the fight on Mustafar. The suffering on his home planet, loss of his mother, losing Padme, believing he had killed his own child (Singular because he didn't know there were two until ROTJ), losing his limbs, feeling betrayed by all the Jedi and then by Palpatine, and lastly, the guilt, shame, fear and hatred of himself. When he said "It is too late for me, son" to Luke he didn't believe there was a way out. Even if he began acknowledging and feeling like Anakin again, he had resigned himself to his fate. His prison. His punishment. It took Luke's selflessness, Luke's determination to stand against the Emperor and perhaps it even reminded Anakin of his younger days, of Prime and Kenobi. Because all of them would have rejected Palpatine if they were in Luke's shoes. All in all, well done. It's a masterpiece and out of all these you've posted? It's definitely my favorite. The equivalent of A Christmas Carol for Vader.

Something I'd like to see: As the 10th anniversary of the events of "A New Hope" approach, four people who were there reflect on them: Days earlier, Luke had been working on his uncle's farm, dreaming of going to the academy, and knew nothing of the Force. Within a few days, he had lost his aunt and uncle, his childhood friend, and even a new mentor, yet also found himself on a path that would lead to his father and affecting galactic events in a way he never thought possible. Leia had been a senator, carefully hiding her work with the Alliance. She would end up losing her home planet and her entire family, as well as being tortured by a man would turn out to be her father. Yet she would come to gain a new family through Luke, Han, and eventually Ben. Han had learned the hard way, growing up alone on Corellia, and through his experiences with Qi'ra and Beckett, not to trust or get attached to anything, other than Chewie and the Falcon. It was a simple transport job, like any of the dozens he'd taken before. Yes, he would find himself caring for the first time, not just about people, but a cause... and perhaps finding people who cared about him, as well. Wedge was already no stranger to combat by this point. Still, he was skeptical about the stories from the other pilots about the massive battle station they had seen at Scarif, a battle he'd been forced to miss. Surely a spacecraft that size was impossible. So, he couldn't believe his eyes when he finally saw the size of it, earning a reprimand from his commander for talking about it on the comm. How could anyone survive an assault on something that massive? And yet, he did. In fact, he was only one of three who did. Why did he return, when so many more experienced pilots didn't? Why was his wingmate Biggs shot down, while Wedge's X-Wing was only grazed? Was it skill? Luck? That thing called "the Force" that Luke later told him about? In the ten years (and many more battles) that followed, Wedge would keep asking himself those questions, still waiting for an answer...

I love how when he talks to Obi Wan that resentment comes through again. It's almost like Obi Wan is the main trigger of his anger. He feels let down by Obi Wan, and still blames him to a degree of what he became. It was never Obi Wans fault, but he was responsible for Anakin for much of his training.

I wish we had more moments of Anakin/Vader thinking of his mother, too. I also like that in this scene, Padme's tomb is full of light that shines even on Vader here too. It always shined on Vader.

Oh My God these are so good! I know Darth Vader already has tons of screen time, the entire 6 movies already revolve around him, but I still wish we could have gotten a Darth Vader spin off movie. Where we have to follow the villain the entire movie, and get scenes like this. How haunted he is by the choices he made, how much he hates himself for getting everything wrong, beautiful character honestly, my favourite in all of media

What is written stays written. In the canon comic Vader truly comes back to Padmé's tomb. He finds a company of soldiers commanded by Sabé. For a moment he confused her with Amidala. Later, when Palpatine found it out, he gaves Vader the beating of his life and almost died xDDD
