I have been in 3 and out twice of collecting twice in 40 years . Bob tkj said your collection is a useful to behold or something like that 👏👌. This is where I come for excellent fixed blade advice and and Bobtkj knife advice in general . I hope all things are well and feel breaks are necessary . When I want something I ll go handle something similar

Let’s cut to the chase. With a lower profile clip, this knife is suited to carry for self defense. With the rise in knife crime, more lawful citizens are going to train in edged weapons , and carry them for self defense.

Love the video. Really digging the knife, I got the micarta dark green handle, I've opened carried it for two days now, (have to open carry in my state because blade length is larger than 4 inches) and I'm really liking it, a good purchase. First thing I did was take the lanyard off and put it on the caribeener which I hold my keys.

"it's all about the blade." as Jared at "Neeves'Knives" said in his homage to Bob Tezuola-the "Godfather of the Tactical Knife" in one of his videos. That trailing point should penetrate with such ease and the curve on that belly should slice so smoothly that the "hint" of a finger guard on the handle was almost a courtesy. No appreciation for the "Tamashii" or any "tactical knife" can be had without a read or listen about Bob Terzuola. (There's an interview on "The Knife Junkie" that's worth watching.)

Bob T's influence lives on ... that's great news! One of my favorite "boot" knives -- though I never carry them in a boot ;) -- is the Terzuola designed Gryphon M10. Talk about a classic! I got two of those, one hollow ground, one flat. Anything I really love and use a lot I get at least two. ;) FWIW, there's a Russian reviewer on YT who (ab)uses his Tamashii to baton a log, carve/rip chunks out of the same log and then drill a hole in a coconut of all things. The grand finale is there's no damage to the edge or tip and -- tada! -- he slices a piece of note paper with the same blade. I was appalled at first but then I was amused. I don't speak/understand russki, but the expression on his face at the end was one of incredulity. lol Oh, your review is pretty good, too. ;) I concur with everything you say ... the Tamashii is a joy to hold and behold. I just received my today and I'm one happy boy. Yeah, China, I know, but holy moley, for the money you get a great American knife maker's design and some quality material and excellent craftsmanship. This will go into my rotation with my M10, Street Beats and Winkler Operator. And yes, I'll probably get a spare 'cuz I can. lol Thanks for telling the world about Bob T.
@OGBladeReviews
@OGBladeReviews 2 жыл бұрын
Wow! Thanks for your comments, and totally concur. I've had several of Bob's customs over the years, including the Gryphon. I note that he used traction tape on the upper and lower edges of the handle on those. I might add some Talon Grips granulate tape to my two (yes, I also buy multiples on models I like). Wishing I held onto my custom Terzuolas from the 80's, but life changes sometimes mean possession overhaul, LOL 😁. I'll have to check out that Russian review of the Tamashii. Be well, and Seasons Greetings! 🎄🗡️👍
@redneckzen
@redneckzen 2 жыл бұрын
@@OGBladeReviews Regarding Talon Grip tape, I much prefer the rubber over the granulate as I have the delicate hands of a poet ... lol Seriously, the rubberized version feels to me like the old Pachmyr grips ... I've used it on a reduced grip Glock and a few knives such as a vintage Spyderco Police (all steel handle, gets slippery when wet) and even my old Randall No. 1 I bought from the Randall shop in 1979. Once I start carrying my Tamashii regularly that may become an option. Alsooooo ... I got out my Gryphon M10s and realized the Tamashii handle is quite similar in profile. While I do appreciate the texture and "grippability" of the M10 Zytel handle I am fascinated by the almost custom knife quality of the Tamashii's G10. That little knife is a work of art. Of course, one cannot slice and dice with a Van Gogh, which is one of the beautiful things about knife collecting; you get both form and function. ;) Below is the link to that Russian video. As I said, it was hard to understand WTF he was doing at first with the baton and whittling -- and that coconut! -- but if you follow through to the end you'll get a whole new appreciate for D2 and the Chinese manufacturer's blade hardening technique. Plus, the Russian's reaction just cracks me up! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGqZo56Imdtnqqs&lc=UgyZ5nH4gl1rBTq-NBF4AaABAg.9WCEiHr0HW59WC_HUuMS7B Have fun!

I just finally got one of these. I'm very happy. Everything seems to be great. I did take off the lanyard. I don't mind them and I am happy they at least tried and put one on it. It was just to big. I'm really glad they didn't put a sharpening choil on it. I don't think anybody should put one on a tactical knife. All it does is get caught up in fabric. Anyway, have a great day. 👊

I have a civivi riffle folder and was blown away by the quality for the price the action for deploying the blade is so smooth and satisfying and the blade is centered better than any spyderco Ive ever owned. Thinking about picking up the Tamashii I like how it comes with a quality minimalistic sheath setup too.

Just got my OD GREEN TAMASHII, I didn't realise its a tactical fixed blade as there were no descriptions where I ordered it from. I thought it was a hunting utility blade until I read knifecenters description of it ! Very well made Handle n all ! Would have preferred a slightly more grippy handle though n maybe half inch more Handle though its exactly my hand width ... I realised many tactical knives either have a slight bulge at the end or curves down on the handle to facilitate pulling away ! But very nice anyway for the TAMASHII 🙂 somewhat similar to Spydercos Bob Lum Tanto years ago ...
@OGBladeReviews
@OGBladeReviews 2 жыл бұрын
True! Reminiscent of Bob Lums tanto, but this design predates even that one. My original version of this Tamashii from the early 80's had grip tape on the top and bottom of the handle. If you'd like a better grip I highly recommend using Talon Grips rubber granulate sheets, cut to size. Perfect for this application and regularly used as pistol grip overlay. Thanks for watching! 👍🗡️😁

A lil late to the party though as former federal LE, having spent 5 1/2+ years as a deep undercover operative(Group I UCO for those familiar), I only carried/carry fixed blade knives/punch daggers for self defense. My everyday pocket carry knives are a Winkler SD2 proto, which is identical to the production run with the exception that mine has a 3 1/2" blade versus the production has a 3 1/4" blade. My other pocket carry is Bill Rapier's AMTAC Northman proto, spec'd the same as the production model(3 1/2" blade). While the Tamashii is not in my regular rotation(I've got the black & tan grips), I would have absolutely zero reservation about carrying it. As I have the blades that you compared with the Tamashi, I would most definitely take it over the other other three, with the Street Beat being my second choice. I prefer my blades to be 3-3 1/2" for my self defense knives. Easy clearance deployment and can penetrate into any organ in the human body. The Tamashi is a superb knife and incredible value as I love the traditional Tanto D2 blade, kydex sheath and the G10 grip!! I've got a couple of Terzuola customs and he is one of my fave designers!! I couldn't believe the price on this knife!! I also agree on the lanyard!! While I do carry my EDC folders with lanyards cuz I pocket carry them versus pocket clip and the lanyard with a custom bead/ball is an easy grab. Like you, I get a full grip on my fixed blades when deploying from my pocket, so the lanyard just gets in the way. I don't watch many YTube vids, especially regarding fixed blades, and I cannot tell ya the last time that I watched a vid from start to finish, however you did a great job as I not only watched it beginning to end, I watched it twice, lol Stay Well Brotha and Continued Success🍻 RP

It's a pretty successful knife, from a legendary designer, so usually we see a bump in materials over time. It just additionally came out in Black Micarta with black stonewashed blade. It's sealed pretty tight as near as I can tell. By the way, D2 gets a bad rap - it's not really a "carbon" steel. All steels have some carbon content. It isn't the carbon that rusts it's the iron. 🗡️👍

Lanyards have many purposes, not just limited to wrist attachment or for unraveling for paracord. It can extend the reach of a knife by backing up on your grip and using the lanyard to stabilize the knife. To me that’s the best reason for this type of lanyard.
@OGBladeReviews
@OGBladeReviews 2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the info. Certainly I've been using knives long enough to have ventured into the use of lanyards. Presently I have no use for them as they tend to get in the way. Best use case I can see is on a machete or a larger camp knife. I appreciate your watching and commenting! 👍🗡️👍
