It's nothing to really study. It's called being a musician and taking lead. Just because most drummers have a little bit of chops when playing in bands or are told not to overplay doesn't mean this guy invented something. I told my drummer friend a while back every musician can lead.

I can't understand how he plays all them poly-rhythms, but still manages to fall in-time with the song's structrure. it ain't just him, most of them new-skool Gospel Boys all got that same thing. it's a nu way of playing drums. me being old-skool, I flat-out love what these cats are doing now adays.
