I've done this a lot in 867. It's easy when you buy stacks of Varangian Veterans with prestige. If you don't want to do a custom character, Harald Fairhair is a good start, solid stats and only 17.

The age is so key because there is no way to shorten the 30 year requirement. Just got to sit there and wait.

Huscarls are a lot better, although, I just did it with Bowmen. Also Alfred being such an Insane marshal is annoying has he has huscarls that counter bowmen while having martial on par with Haraldr.

@@Nyhtii Do you have a basis on which you can argue your point?
@Ranked_Journey3 ай бұрын
@@Nyhtii The KZbinr Llosgfynydd made a video where they did a large amount of detailed tests of all men-at-arms, including graphs with the results, and a section going over the DLC men-at-arms including Varagians and Huscarls near the end of the video (timestamped). Overall the finding are more biased towards archer units, as they are the most cost effective in a lot of cases, and second finding is that terrain bonuses+counters having a lot to say. In regards to varagians vs. huscarls, varagians are more expensive, counter a unit that dosen't exist in the tribal era (heavy cav), and have bonuses in terrain that is almost non-existant in Northern Europe. Both Varagians and Huscarls counter spearmen, but Huscarls also counter Archers. Spearmen and Archers are the units most other norse rulers use (bondi and vigmen). Huscarls also have bonuses in Taiga, and Forest, a terrain prevalent in Northern Europe. Archers are also the cultural men-at-arms for most of the cultures around the baltic sea.

Cannot thank you enough for this video. A 1066 North Sea Guide is exactly my next goal. I’ve done it so many times in 867. It’s my fave empire to make.

my favourite part of thia decision is that it renames britannia to albia, such a small unnecessary touch that makes me so unreasonable happy

Svend died right after I had him take Norway but that's fine because I nominated Prince Ælfwine to be king of Denmark and Norway. Ælfwine Haroldson is historically believed to be the son of Harold Harefoot and by extension; the last heir to the Knytling house - so basically it became a challenge for me to restore the north sea as a direct descendent of Canute
