Great to see you back on the house. Glass wool between the uprights on next one (I'm thinking more about the insects). One thing when you lay out to the garden etc. around the house, think where you are going to foot your ladders to get up there for any maintenance. Dumb question, what sort of plumb fittings are you going for, and what kind of pipe - could be worth s quick video discussion. Look forward to next one.

Lovely looking house! Just wondering what keeps the water put where the weatherboards meet at the corners? In the US, NZ & AUS corner soakers that are weather tight are used, this just appears to butt up to some decorative trim and does not look weather tight? Also wouldn't it be better to have the building wrap overlap from top to bottom like a weatherboard?

Good choice of colour, I have done a double dormer in anthracite grey to blend in with my dark tiles it is a massive full width dormer and would have stuck out like a sore thumb if it was clad in any other colour. your dormers look better as they stand out and show the design off really well, the completed look will be very smart 👍

Nice colour 👍🏻 will help if you use the same material / colour elsewhere on the outside of the building if possible 🤔 agree would do something with the lead flashing even a chamfered edge. If you go with the radius would be tempted to go for a scallop along the bottom would look real fancy 😁 good to see the house build on the go again👏👍🏻🏴

@ricmalone72924 жыл бұрын
Love your vids so I don't want to be a troll. It's hard to see how you have done things on the planning shot across the front of the dormer. But the bottom soaker looks off. It looks as though wind could force water into that corner. I could probably be wrong, but I'd advise having another look at it
@Stigwoodjohn4 жыл бұрын
Rodian, have i missed something. Are there still two windows to go into the upstairs bathroom. You were going to leave that tiling but you may have changed your mind....as you occasionally do! Cladding looks very smart.

@gavinlodge2982 жыл бұрын
Does anyone know what colour this is? Hardie Plank soft green??
@ricmalone72924 жыл бұрын
You probably won't have any problems, however I always worry about doing long continuous soakers. It means that any rain from the rest off your roof/from your dormers has the potential to track across and get in. Individual soakers would be better but may cost a bit more. Something worth considering. Top vid tho
@ricmalone72924 жыл бұрын
Also it looked like you had dry ridge, if so they do a nice block end ridge for your first ridge that looks awesome

Hi Rodian. Great channel! I’ve watched a lot of your videos in the last week of so as I’m going to be doing some pointing and other brickwork myself soon. I left a comment on one of your other videos (“BRICKLAYING FOR BEGINNERS [E.P 6 MIXING LIME MORTAR” dated 15 Oct 2019) because (if possible) I’d like to use lime mortar (as it is, it seems, to me, more in keeping with the age (Victorian) of my house and I don’t want to use anything too strong. I’d be very grateful if you could advise, please. Here is my original comment: “I’m confused. Is the mortar used in this video just for demonstration purposes or is it what would be used for a real job? It sounds like this mortar takes a long time to go hard but that it is more appropriate for the type of job I am facing (repointing some areas of my Victorian era house). Can anyone advise, please?” In return, I’ve got a suggestion for a slogan for your channel/merchandise: how about “Throw in the Trowel!”)? Or, if you think that sounds negative, how about “Never Throw in the Trowel!”? Cheers.

Why haven’t you insulated the dormers
@constructionsecrets60484 жыл бұрын
Glad to c you didnt go for that cheap hollow soffit boards for the cladding. I would have gone for anthracite grey. Would look even better if the boards were not levelled out, but kept at the same angle of the roof. Must say colour co-ordination is a bit off. A good choice of gutter colour is needed to balance things out a bit. I never use silicone, as the years pass by, it will attract dust and make the job look cheap. I would gone for a trim of some sort.
@RodianBuilds4 жыл бұрын
I really didn't want to go with the cheap cladding. I was very tempted with an anthracite grey but decided to take the chance with what I put up. The good thing is, if I change my mind in the future, its just a few screws and I can change the colour! I could always add a bit of trim no worries 🤙😁
@constructionsecrets60484 жыл бұрын
Thanks for replying. Good idea with the screws. Really rodian, i do do a hell of a lot of fascia/soffit/guttering works. Try your best never to use silicone where it is visible. It looks cheap and there are other ways around it.

Hi Rodian, been watching a lot of your videos lately. I think they are great. I have a small garden wall that needed to be knocked down and rebuilt so that's what started me off watching them. I have done half of it so far and am giving you some of the credit for it looking so good!!! Reason I am writing this is because me and my girlfriend were in London on Sunday and had a few hours to waste so I suggested the Brick museum you mentioned in one of your videos. All I can say is this really odd noise came out of her mouth and was directed at the pavement. It was a spitting version of FUCK OFF!!! So we didn't go.

Terrible job. Damp proof membrane is installed the wrong way. You installed it top down but should be bottom up. Any water getting behind your cladding will hit top sheet and run into bottom sheet and then get trapped behind the damp proof barrier. You should go back and redo the job.
